We have been staying on this site for 10 days. It’s a busy site with lots of comings and going’s. Good play areas for children.
Set over two sites but we have stayed on the lower site with the larger pitches. Although the grass is mainly weed with a lot of prickles in it but pleased with our pitch.
The toilet blocks are fantastic and what you would expect from new facilities. The only gripes are that both blocks close at the same time. So no facilities for 1.5 hours. Many complaints about this and it should be addressed. Traffic also seems to drive quite fast around the site.
The wardens are always busy pottering around keeping the site tidy. Even the security guard likes to stop for a friendly chat.
Great location for Filey, Scarborough and Whitby coastline. With a bus stop right outside the driveway for those that need to use it with a regular service. Short walk to the local village shop.
We would happily return to this site.
Has the club lost its way?
Just returned from a 7 nights stay at Cayton bay. Facilities clean but not conveniently located being on extremity of both fields. The pitches on the top field are narrow and cramped. In fact it's virtually the same as it was before the club took it over (minus the tap on each pitch). There's less toilets especially in the men's than before, and one less toilet block. On the lower field the money has been spent landscaping around the glamping area which are well spaced and arranged for privacy, whereas the super pitches are uninspiring with a token piece of grass.
The club have said that the pods are for friends and family members without a caravan. As a caravan and motor home club I think our membership money should have been spent on offering better quality pitches for members.

Not for us
This site is well located not far from the sea and within easy reach of the coastal towns. It adjoins Cayton village which has bus stops. The access road is good except for school time in the afternoon when the road is restricted to single file by parents parking.
We had a cheerful and helpful check-in and all Covid rules were followed. After that it went downhill. The first part of the site was full so we ended up on the top part which has narrow pitches and you are supposed to park your car across the end of the pitch which is impossible without driving over some grass. Fortunately it was dry. Once the site filled up it looked like a street with cars parked either side. It was very cramped and claustrophobic. Any latecomers had great difficulty in accessing their pitch. Similarly you couldn't hitch up and drive off because of parked cars. It really was poor design but probably worked if the site was less busy.
Bizarrely the pitches were covered in beach pebbles, some of them quite large which were very unforgiving to walk on. It took us the best part of an hour to get our rock pegs in for the awning and we bent a few in the process. We didn't like this at all.
The TV reception isn't mentioned in the book or on line but in the site leaflet is described as generally good. We found it poor to non existent as did our neighbour and we were not near any trees.
We noticed at 6pm every night a miserable looking security guard patrolled the site. If this was supposed to reassure us it didn't. It left us wondering what horrible things had happened on this site that necessitated a security patrol. It was quite unsettling.
It would be churlish not to recommend a newly refurbished site and we would recommend it to motorhomers who don't bother with an awning since we know they like to have a bus stop nearby. Many positive reviews are indeed from motorhomers but for us the cramped pitches, the poor TV and the horrible pebbles were too much to bear especially for what we paid. We wont be back and we have never said that about any site after many years of caravanning.
Disappointing
Nice friendly arrival and was advised lower level was full so directed to upper level. Most pitches on this level were very narrow, perfect size for motorhome and awning but caravan and awning had to park their cars on front of pitch. Far too many pitches were crammed into the available area, squeezing everyone in like sardines and to be honest the site looked like a carpark in places (particularly the central area). Then of course the pitches where not level! The rules for dogs were not followed by several on this site. On 1 occasion we had to lift our dog up in the air to stop a confrontation from a dog not on a lead. Members had not cleaned up after their dogs on the dog walk and we had visit from neighbouring van where the dog although leashed had gone under their van and wandered through to our pitch. A dog yapping continuously did not add to our enjoyment either. We did had problems with TV reception at times so another missed opportunity for the club to add ariel connection to electric bollards during the upgrade?
The wardens on the site were all friendly and the shower blocks were spotless, they even had a lovely clean smell but there are 2 toilet blocks which are both closed at the same time for cleaning 10.30 - 12.00 Also the buckets for the bands are on the ground which is ok for the fit and healthy but I struggled due to an injury and it must be an issue for some with disabilities. There were 2 nice play areas for the children and a little shop on the site. Grass and hedges well maintained, the site in general was clean and tidy
Cayton bay is fairly close and within walking distance. It was very busy at weekend but almost deserted on a weekday visit. Buses stop frequently directly outside the site for Scarborough and Filey, both places very busy but ideal for families. Cayton village itself has a couple of shops for essential needs, a wax melt shop where handmade gifts are also on sale plus a fish and chip shop that was not open during the time shown on board in window. There were also a couple of pubs in the village.
Enjoyed our stay
The site, as you would expect after a big refurb, was clean and well maintained. check in was easy and staff very helpful, even under pressure when a customer was openly admitting he had messed up his own booking but was still blaming the staff and demanding the kick someone else off the pitch they wanted!!!!!!!!!!!! nowt as strange as folk.
Anyway the pitch we had was good longer and narrower than normal so the car was parked to the front and not the side but not an issue. the site is with easy walking distance of Cayton village and it's stores and pub's. there is a Morrisons superstore with in a 10 min drive for any extras the village store may not have, as well as a Costa and McDonalds if you crave that as well.
Cayton Bay is with in an easy walk, but it is about 2 mile (ran there and back a few times) away and down a steep path, the way we went anyway. but well worth the effort. there is a surf and paddle board shop there as well
the Park and Ride site is with in a 5 min drive as well if you don't want to take the car all the way in to Scarborough or there is a bus stop right outside the camp site.
All in all of out 3 site tour of East coast this was the best.
Loved our Stay at Cayton
On our "Tour de Yorkshire" from Sunderland we had two days at Cayton Club site and must say it was a real treat . Easy going check in at 13.00 Most of the pitches located n the first section were full but plenty to pick on the second part which has its own new toilet block . Very handy bus service at entrance on double decker bus to either Bridlington or Scarborough . They pass every 15 to 20 mins apart . Your in Scarborough in about 15 minutes . Catch the return bus from the station . It was busy in Scarborough on the sea front . First thing we like to know is where can you walk to for a beer ?? Answer the Tow Bar at Caton left at gate in one direction is about 15 minute easy walk and pubs on your left . Next day we walked to Caton Village and its even nearer and again just a 6 minute walk brings you to the Farrier Inn which YOU MUST VISIT . Its a pub Hotel restaurant which won "4 in a Bed" and the staff were really nice even though we just wanted a couple of drinks . So we liked the site which is very spacious and well maintained and really quiet at night . TV signal was good deffo a five star plus site
Improved site after refurbishment but ......
Good welcome and check-in by the Wardens to the Site.
Paid £29.40 per night in late June for a good size pitch.
Motorhome service points are well designed and easy to use.
Dog walk has only one entrance and one exit point – it had more points for access before the recent refurbishment.
I realise that Site maintenance is essential for grassed areas and hedges but with tractors, hedge trimmers, strimmers and leaf blowers in operation on the first three afternoons (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) for a minimum of two hours each during our four night stay - that seemed a bit excessive.
I feel there was a lost opportunity to fit plug-in TV aerial points (similar to the ones at Poolsbrook C C) to the Electrical bollards during the refurbishment when I presume much of the site had considerable disruption and fitting the Aerial points would have had minimal costs – but good benefits for the Members.
A Yorkshire Gem
Just arrived home after having 2 fantastic weeks at Cayton club site. Everything was perfect. Ideal location for visiting all areas of Scarborough. Good sized pitches. The amenities block and the site was kept very clean and tidy. All the wardens very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this site and will definitely be returning. Several shops and 2 pubs nearby and a lovely little candle and melt shop (Shady Nook) in the village is well worth a visit. Morrison's is a 5 minute car ride from the site.

GREAT SITE AND LOCATION
We recently stayed for a week at this site and were very impressed indeed. The location, a moderate walk from Cayton Bay and handy for local shops and supermarkets, made it ideal for us and our three dogs. The onsite dog walking facilities are very good indeed. The staff were friendly and keep the site looking immaculate while ensuring that anti Covid measures were adhered to very well indeed (as they were by the majority of visitors). Although the site is quite large, the fact that it is divided into two main sections, with plenty of trees and hedges mean that it didn't feel soulless as some large sites do. The facilities were in excellent condition, well maintained and very clean. We will definitely be returning. Well done everybody.
Great weekender
Just had a great weekend on the site . Everything was clean and well presented and the weather was better than at home . People were generally keeping to all the COVID rules , the blue bands on the gents toilets could do with changing more often as they were stuck together and they stuck to your fingers making a sticky mess. Also it was a bit disconcerting to see private security people patrolling the site on an evening.
