Great site in the Peak District

We live on the edge of the Peak District and this is one of our local sites so we use it all the time. Like the previous review I haven't left a review before but felt I wanted to on this occasion as the wardens were so helpful and friendly and really made our stay more pleasurable. The site is in a great location just outside Castleton and within easy walking distance back into the town. Likewise it's also a nice easy walk to Hope which is worth visiting for the nice pubs and welcoming cafes. The site itself is well laid out and has a nice family room with a table tennis table and pool table to entertain the older children. It doesn't have a play area which may frustrate parents of smaller children as there's nothing to entertain them. If your looking for peace and quiet during your stay you should probably pick a pitch away from the road as it gets busier than you would expect considering all it really goes to is Castleton (you can continue through and up Winnets Pass but that's not suitable for bigger vehicles). All in all we feel lucky that this site is one of our local ones as we always look forward to staying and always have a nice time whilst we're there.

Castleton - Top site

We have been staying at this site for over 25-years. We love the wals in the near vicinity and still enjoy the small town of Castleton. Clearly one of our favourites, hence frequent visitors. So, why leave a review now for the first time? Simply because the wardens were the friendliest we have come across. Notwithstanding it was quite a demanding weekend for them - sub-zero temperatures and snow; blocked lavatories - they dealt with it all in their stride and remained ever cheerful. (Afraid to say, this is not our experience on all sites!).

First Timers

Thank you to all at Castleton Caravan Site for making our first trip away fabulous. As first time caravanners we of course ran into a few problems, but the staff were more than willing to help, along with neighbouring caravanners. Castleton is a lovely well laid out site. The washroom was clean and wam and the drying room is a must for other sites to adopt. We were surprised at how close Castleton was. Lovely pubs and good walking. We are planning our next weekend already.

Great weekend in January

A lovely site just a short 5 min walk from the town of Castleton.  The pitches are generally level and a good size.  Wash rooms are warm clean. Great for dog walking in the hills and a pint in the town! Open all year we had a few inches of snow over night during our stay wakening to bright sunshine and a glorious snow covered landscape around us. We will be back.

Midweek stay

A warm & friendly welcome from the wardens on a site with a great location. Facilities were very good as expected from a club site. Our 1st visit to this site but certainly not our last.

Great location

Warm welcome by new'ish wardens, all facilities clean, tidy and as you would expect from a C C site. Fantastic walking in the area, and a total of 4 caverns to explore(at a price of course !) all within a good hiking distance, plus Winnats Pass and Mam Tor to climb and not forgetting Peveril Castle( unfortunately closed weekdays at this time of the year, Doh !) Visitors centre in Castleton has very informative displays etc. Plenty of pubs, cafés plus shops selling the local Blue John stones in either jewellery or ornaments. We eat at Rose cottage (breakfasts highly recommended) and The Castle Hotel( log fires in every room, very cosy and great food).

Great New Year

Another great stay at one of our favourite sites. Excellent location for great walks and only ten minutes walk from Castleton. Warm welcome from hardworking wardens. Sorry that our favourite wardens Peter, Linda, Dave and Brenda are moving on, big thankyou, we will miss you.

Super location

This was our first trip to Castleton and we were not disappointed. We decided to choose the site as it was in walking distance of the town, ideal over the Christmas period. The site itself is well located and we decided on a pitch at the back of the site -quiet spot with great views across the fields to the hills. The road into Castleton was surprisingly busy and would have been noisy if we'd pitched near to the front of the site. The wardens were congenial and the shower blocks clean & tidy and had everything we needed. Our only slight disappointment was the small area allocated for the dog walk though, in reality, there are lots of footpath walks nearby. When the 6" snow came on Boxing Day the site looked wonderful. There were good facilities in the town and we would recommend The Cheshire Cheese (nearest pub to site) for the friendly ambience and cheerfulness towards dogs. The visitor centre is worth a visit and walk off the Main Street to find the village green and other interesting shops. We hope to return in the  future.

Last Minute Dot Com...

Decided to visit the Blue John Cavern at the last minute and managed to secure (what I'm told was) the last pitch available, although there were several still empty on the day. Cracking location within easy walking distance of the village of Castleton. Very friendly Wardens and the usual clean and tidy facilities. Bit pricey though at £23-90 per night!! We paid £19-60 in Cornwall during Half Term Week and thought that was plenty. We have always used CL's in the past but decided to try the Club Sites for a change, especially now that the CL's are starting to creep up in price and they are and always have been something of a lottery as far as quality goes. At least with the Club Sites we've so far visited, the facilities and standards have been very high but I do think they need to reign in some of their rates a little. There's only two of us in a little Camper Van so we don't take up as much space as a big RV or even a small Caravan and Towcar. Obviously we still have the full "use" of a whole Pitch but it sometimes seems an awful lot of money for what you get.
