Great week at Castleton

We had a geat week at this site, never been before and will be returning soon. There's loads of walks in the area straight from the site and things to do for the family close by. Site staff were excellent.

MIDWEEK SPECIAL

LaughingExcellent stay, wonderful site. Enjoyed our short stay. Well appointed and central for a lot of what the Peak District has to offer. It was our first outing with our new caravan experience. We were more than slightly lost with setting up the van and procedures. The warden stepped in to help and showed us the way. We were very grateful for his assistance, thank you. Will be back.

Perfect Escape

Excellent location with good walks in surrounding area and local pubs within walking distance. Wardens very welcoming with whom you could have a laugh with. Enjoyable stay. Been to this site before and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.

A one night stay on the way home

A fabulous site on the outskirts of Castleton. A warm and friendly welcome from the warden, I will return again in the near future in order to spend some quality time in the area.

Great as always, fab wardens, but.....

As always, enjoyed our time at Castelton. This year's winter wardens have excelled in friendliness, even over last years, just great, helpful, couldn't ask for better. The site as ever was clean and well organised, inspite of being full. My only comment, is that the site, sort of doesn't live up these days to its luxury status.  In my view, compared to some of the sites more recently renovated, the facilities could do with some updating, especially the toilet blocks, which now now look a bit tired ? That said, the drying room should be replicated on other "walking" based club sites (Chatsworth, for example) here having dry boots etc each day is just just welcome beyond comprehension. Great stay, thanks

First Class Site

Have just enjoyed a week long stay at Castleton Site, which was recommended to us by a friend. Despite arriving on a busy weekend when the site was fully booked the wardens gave us a warm welcome and spent time identifying the vacant pitches and explained the amenities available. Although fully booked the site did not seem crowded. Site location is ideal for walking in the area  and is within easy reach of Castleton (10 minute walk) where there are several good pubs and cafes all dog and muddy boot friendly. We will certainly be returning.

Had a wonderful weekend at Castleton site excellent facilities and wardens were all very helpful and welcoming lovely village just 10 minutes walk away with nice selection of pubs with roaring fires and dog friendly. Big thank you to wardens for fitting us in on our middle night as site was full online.

Great place for nearby Mam Tor

A lovely, well maintained site with clean (as usual) toilet block and helpful staff. Brilliant for walking out from the site, straight up Lose Hill and onto Mam Tor. Ideal for Castleton (though not a lot there after one or two visits). Ideal base if you want to walk further afield. Visit, you will enjoy!

Some good- some not so good

Just returned home from 4 nights at Castleton. There is no doubt that this is a lovely location, especially if you enjoy wildlife, the countryside and walking. The proximity of the site to Castleton with all amenities and the local dog friendly pub (The Cheshire Cheese - 10 min walk) is brilliant. However there were some good and not so good Caravan Club experiences here. We decided to extend our stay by one night but when checking the site online it was fully booked. We telephoned the site and the warden very kindly shuffled things around and fitted us in. Thankyou so much for doing this for us as it gave us another wonderful day walking near Ladybower. On arrival our caravan was filthy from road grime, so I filled a bucket of water to wash the windows down and was firmly told by a warden that only waterless cleaners were allowed on this site!…Come on Caravan Club what is happening here when a member can’t fill a bucket of water to wash the van windows down. Am I allowed to wash down my water barrel or waste water container when I leave! or fill a bucket of water to wash my walking boots or my dogs paws! Day two ...another warden asked if I knew where the ‘ramp’ sign was that had gone missing from the grass verge adjacent to my pitch, with the implication that I had knocked it over with my car or caravan, and moved it. I had no idea what had happened to the ‘ramps’ sign, but apologised if it was me who had accidently displaced it. …when the sign was replaced it had white streaks down it! My car is blue, and my caravan is grey - not very good detective work there. (sorry to be sarcastic but I feel annoyed at the implied allegation) Finally Caravan Club - for all the publicised improvements to the Wi Fi provision on sites it is abysmal at Castleton when the site is busy. You have to try three or four times before the log on page appears. It is quicker to go down to the local pub and use their free Wi-Fi than to spend ages trying to 'log on', on the site. Having said all that we did have a pleasant walking holiday. Well done Caravan Club for keeping this site open all year.

Beautiful

This is an excellent site as a family we played together in the games room went for near by walks in Castleton and enjoyed watching the cheeky birds and squirrels, we have some beautiful memories captured on camera. I would like to say a huge thank you to the staff on site as they were very welcoming and extremely friendly they made our stay even more enjoyable.
