We managed to get a cancellation to book here 1st weekend of re-opening after big lockdown. We had tried before and as so popular haven't got in. On arrival Lady warden made me feel very welcome, she was very friendly and pointed out the letter of covid restrictions in force. Not a huge amount of pitches left when we arrived but we got a great end 1 which was ideal with having 2 dogs. Views across the hills from the site are amazing. Site is very clean and although only visited the toilet block a couple of times, band system seemed to work and facilities very clean. Lovely area with a games room which when covid is over I am sure will be used alot. We did some excellent walks from the site. Mam Tor is a must for views Castleton is within 10mins walking and lots of nice looking pubs in the area. we enjoyed it that much we booked again for Oct first available weekend we could get. Definately a favourite with us.
Great location
We have stayed at Castleton twice this year, the site is very well maintained. The site managers Neil and Trisha are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble.
It is a very short walk into the village and a great base for exploring the surrounding area. We will definitely be staying here again.
Mighty Castleton
Just got back from Castleton club site, another great stay as always site staff are friendly and helpful.
Weather wasn’t great but still got out walking, did a short walk to Hope and back after setting up, next day we went up cavedale then onto Mam Tor and Hope Vally ridge across to Shatton village then back to site for tea and biscuits.
We went to the Castle Hotel for dinner on the Friday night, very safe and clean great service very professional under the currant circumstances, would highly recommend it.
What that staff have done at the site regarding Covid 19 is outstanding, hand gel everywhere service points sanitised throughout the day well done everybody at Castleton club site, see you soon.
1st Timers
We have only recently bought our 1st motorhome. This trip was our 1st time out and mainly to check everything worked ok. Wardens were lovely, site very clean and tidy & surrounding area stunning. We climbed Mam Tor and visited local area. Will definitely return early next year.
2 night stay en rte to the lakes....
Pleasant stay with easy access & within a short walk of the village although not too much was open on Sun/Mon apart from the plentiful pubs....
There are local attractions nearby but we were just passing through.
We used Winnats Pass on departure & quite honestly can't comprehend the horror stories about avoiding it!
Yes, it wasn't the weekend or peak season but there is sufficient width for 2 vehicles to pass.
Lovely views.
Can recommend it.
Lovely short break at this site.
Had a lovely short break here at this site.
Staff were very helpful and pleasant.
Nice short walk into Castleton, will definitely visit again, highly recommend this site.
Easy to get there.
A++++++
Can’t get enough of this site.....
It was the first place we visited after lockdown and our first visit to the area. We had wonderful stay but needed more time so grabbed a cancellation that came up for the end of September.
The friendly wardens were as organised as ever and the site felt safe and well run.
We brought ebikes with us and did some amazing rides from the site including up above Derwent reservoir where had an a special view of a Lancaster Bomber flying down the valley four times!!
We also went up Mam tour and hit the rough stuff over Lords Chair which had breathtaking views to both sides of the ridge and a hairy descent. There are a wealth of lovely quiet lanes and bridleways to explore and caves and villages to visit then at the end of a fab day - a lovely site with great hot showers to come back to. We will be back for more!
The Tour Took Us To Mam Tor
We stayed here as part of our current tour. It was our first time at Castleton and the impression is lasting. A beautiful site set in perfect surroundings. The facilities are modern, spacious and kept spotlessly cleas as one would expect. The surrounding area is spectacular from Winnats pass, to Mam Tor, The Bulls Head to Hope all excellent.
We were disapointed the wifi was not stronger but this is a regular issue and not confined to this site.
The area is vibrant and this spills onto the site with bustle and conversation about exploring.
The staff work very hard to make everyone's stay here special,
Fantastic site in many ways
We spent 4 nights here at the end of September. The campsite is well laid out with a good mix of pitches. The facilities are excellent and spotlessly clean, as you would expect. The wardens were helpful and very engaging and clearly have worked hard during these Covid 19 times. The location is perfect for walking right from the site, especially to Hope and up to Loosehill and along the Great Ridge and to Mam Tor before descending down into Castleton. The climbs are tasking but the views are worth it. The site is about a 20 minute walk on paved footpath into Castleton but I would say the road is fairly narrow and the traffic travels faster than I would have liked, given the proximity to the pedestrians. Whilst many cyclists are in the area, for this reason, I don't think I would road cycle here. Castleton itself is delightful with many opportunities to walk in the area as well as the visitor attractions. There are toilets, plenty of eateries/pubs and gift shopping available. There is no supermarket but there is a local Londis/post office shop and village bakery which sells other items too. Very busy with tourists in season and on a weekend. If you need to delay your arrival at the site there is an excellent café on the way to this site on the A623 at the junction with B6465 (just to the east) called Yondermann Café. It had many bikers on the Sunday we travelled but it has a large car park suitable to get large motorhomes on and the food is excellent.
Jewel of the peaks
For a local site to us , we generally use chatsworth and I have overlooked this site. What a mistake! This site is wonderful. Well laid out spacious pitching areas. Superb facilities area. Amazing views. The wardens are attentive and helpful. The only slight drawback is the serviced pitches are close to the road but it is not really noisy. Chatsworth scores better with the dog walk facilities but I can live with that. I don’t take children with me so no play area isn’t an issue for me. Close proximity to the village is good and the two mile level field walk to Hope is an added bonus. We will be back !!
