Love it!

What a welcome return to this beautiful site. So peaceful and quiet set, as it is, in a pine wood. Lots of bird life, fantastic views and of course just outside the Peak Parks with all its inviting walks and trails. Ashbourne is nice and close for a sneaky take away or some shopping and a quick drink. A bonus for us is the lengthy dog walk right around the site so no need to even go off site if you don't want to. Good to see the shop open here too and 6 bands for the shower block - bring back normality!

Countryside base for Derbyshire dales

Spent 2 weeks at this site using it as a base to tour the area with our OS map. Site was very busy when we arrived due to being the end of school holidays, on the whole there was a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. You need to be prepared to pitch under a tree and don’t expect a view of the reservoir as there are only a few pitches which give this. Pitches are in need of some maintenance but shower block etc was spotless during our stay and the site managed well considering occupancy and turn over. Friday fish & chip van cooks fresh you do though need to be prepared to wait ( 1 hour !!!) Super roast dinner at Red Lion in Hognaston & excellent ploughman’s at the Miners Arms. Having dog walk around the site perimeter is a bonus , dogs do though need to be kept on leads. WiFi (caravan clubs own and paid for unlike Camping & Caravan club where it is free) & telephone signals very weak,

Lovely wooded site with a great location

Lovely wooded site with a great location and a 8.5 mile walk around the reservoir. Site just let down a bit by scruffy and weedy hard standing, and drainage on the roads - although they puddled badly and were uneven the site as a whole coped with quite a lot of rain admirably. 4G a bit dodgy. Great location on the reservoir and with Knockerdown pub just up road. There's also a lovely short woodland walk out around the site perimeter with views of Carsington Water.

Peaceful as usual

My third visit to the Carsington Water cub site, alone as usual except my dog, and we were both made welcome. I love the setting, in the pine forest, which makes you forget the cities and light pollution for a few days. Just a short break this time and with my local knowledge (from previous visits), I made most of the Knockerdown pub and local trails. We endured constant thunderstorms for the few days I was there, but it made the break more breathtaking than usual. I look forward to my next visit (with Amber).

Peaceful break

First visit to Carsington Water site for a two night stay. Wardens were helpful on arrival, and managed to find a fairly level pitch that didn't have overhanging branches from the very tall pine trees. Its a largish site, with several areas off the main route through the site for six or so units to enable a family grouping. During our stay, the site was quiet and peaceful, even when on the Friday it began to full up. Communal facilities were spotless and well maintained, with most visitors adhering to the band system. We walked (in some cases yomped) around Carsington Lake, and I concur with a previous review, its better to walk this 9 mile loop anti clockwise to get the hills out the way first. We stopped at the Visitor Centre for a well earned tea and cake, before walking the top of the Dam back to the campsite. On Fridays a Fish and Chip wagon was on site, and Sat a Pizza wagon was due. Unfortunately, we didn't have the chance to try these delicacies as we met up with some family on the Friday and walked to the Knockerdown Inn (just over a mile or so). This pub was busy, and just glad we had booked an undercover outside table beforehand. The only area of disappointment was the pitches. They were mostly hardstanding, however were a little tired and in need of some maintenance. Also, there were approx 4 of the pitches with a traffic cone over the marker. I thought this was originally due to people being being out for the day and so saving their pitch. One was was for the food vans, but 2 of the other 3 were not in use the day we left, so wondered, who was saving them for who as they were some of the better pitches.

Fantastic site

Stayed for 1 night at the site. The wardens were very helpful & friendly. The site is in a lovely location surrounded by pine trees & right next to Carsington water with great walks. The site was very clean & the wristband system works well for the toilets. We've already got our next visit booked!

At last...some freedom!

We were very glad to be able to go to this site post lockdown. Arriving on a Monday quite a queue at 1.30 but got through ok. At wardens suggestion took a pitch with a view over Carsington Water. Ideally located for cycling either round the lake or connecting to the Tissington and High Peak Trails, making a 30 mile loop with some hard climbs on the connecting roads. A short climb back up to the site. Due to restrictions showers closed but site full and never felt too close to people. Had some evening strolls to the water and found the dog walk loop which was excellent. Note to the ignorant, poo bins at both ends so leaving it where it falls is selfish and unnecessary. New MH drive over drain is OK and on a slight slope but quite a queue to use the day we left so another drain would help please. Great effort from the wardens and it felt so good to be back!

Lovely peaceful and relaxing stay

This was our first visit and our first after lockdown easing. Lovely location next to the reservoir in a pine wood. Staff very friendly and all guidance was clear and prompt. Everyone respected the COVID-19 rules. Toilets were open and the wristband process worked really well. Nice mix of couples and families, we took our cocker spaniel who loved the dog walk and walks around the reservoir. The waterside cafe and ice cream parlour was very nice and well organised. A few small shops too. Good information booth onsite too. Nice walk to the Knockerdown Inn for a pub lunch, sat outside in the sun. Excellent if you want a nice quiet break with gorgeous surroundings. Will come back again.

Well done wardens!

After losing our planned holiday at Carsington in May this was just what we needed. What an effort by the staff to get the site open, and keep it running to a standard to abide by all the Covid regulations. We both work in the education sector so to get away for half term was much needed for our wellbeing. A heartfelt thanks to the staff, who, as we left the site, were busy cleaning the facilities yet again.
