What’s not to like

Stayed in our motorhome for 3 nights over the Easter holiday. This was our first visit here and would definitely return and recommend: Site is clean, well kept and plots were roomy. Shower/ toilet block is heated and clean. The staff were polite and helpful. There is a small bar/ cafe which is really nicely decorated and great for a quick drink. It closed at 9pm but I think that’s good as it stop’s people getting a bit noisy late at night. There was a pizza van on the Sunday night which we used, the pizzas were great and home made, it’s also nice to support local businesses. We took the bus into Truro town centre on a Saturday which has a local market with nice home made items. The bus stop is about a 4 min walk and the returning stop is right outside the site. *TIP* to catch the bus back go to the bus station ( all the buses have to turn around there) we got sent to several different bus stops by locals and bus drivers not knowing where to catch the bus back. It was definitely easier than finding a parking space.

So nice I am going back!

I went to Carnon Downs early March 23 to get the motorhome up and running again after winter, it's only 60 miles from where I live. It is such a lovely site, right next to the A39 so very easy access (there is a little road noise but it's not too bad). It was only partially open as obviously there aren't many people in Cornwall in March! Pitches are spacious and pretty much flat, with picnic tables. In the toilet block you get your own washroom with shower, basin and loo, all very clean and tidy, plus there's dishwashing and laundry facilities and very hot water. Grounds very well-maintained, lots of bird life. Small shop and bar with limited opening at this time of year. Staff are just lovely, all local people and very helpful. In Carnon Downs itself, about 10 minutes' walk from the site, is a Spar convenience store with a local butcher counter, so great for top-ups, papers, pain au chocolat, whatever! There's also a Beefeater that was showing the 6 Nations just over the other side of the roundabout. Bus stop to Falmouth, Helston, Lizard at the site entrance, and in the other direction to Truro, Newquay etc on the other side of the roundabout, buses every 30 minutes Mon-Sat, every hour Sundays. There are lots and lots of walks from the site - Feock, Devoran (check out the Old Quay pub), Restronguet - there's a booklet you can borrow from reception. Also there's Sustrans route 3 cycle route, head to Bissoe then you can cycle the Mineral Tramway all the way to Portreath. Alternatively head down to the King Harry Ferry about 4 miles away and head over to the Roseland. I only stayed 3 nights but am going back next week to explore some more!!

Carnon Downs

First time booking and visiting this site. All easy and convenient to do. From the drive into the site we felt welcomed. Ample arrival space for a large Motorhome to park whilst checking in with the friendly staff. Site very clean ( best we’ve visited). A pleasant quiet atmosphere for time to chill and unwind. So dog friendly, with a good wooded walk and large field for them to exercise. We visited out of season but it was good to see so many other guest there. We feel as grand parents, that it’s a great base for young families, however there is only the walks mentioned above and a small park to keep them occupied out of season. Already booked our second visit....See you soon. Mr and Mrs H

Very nice site, very well looked after, very clean.

Been to this site before and keep having the same problem, I travel alone and when booking in I get overcharged as the computer seems to be set up for a minimum of 2 adults so if you arrive alone check your invoice to make sure you are not overcharged. The people in the office are lovely the site and toilet/shower facilities are the best.Just over the road is Carnon Downs garden centre well worth a visit sell lots of different things and has a nice cafe.

Great site, first visit but wont be my last

Stayed here in January 2023, site was very empty and quiet, but still excellent. Very helpful staff who have me advice on buses and cheap weekly bus ticket, Easy to get to Truro and Falmouth (and further) by bus. Both places were lovely to visit, including the passenger ferry to St Mawes. Excellent facilities block ,among the best I've seen. Very conveniently located site for seeing many places in West Cornwall. Nothing much in Carnon Downs village, no shop, and just one pub (Beefeater chain, did not visit). I recommend this site and will return

Loss of Football Field and Games Room!

Have been visiting for many years with our grandchildren. 2 amenities that they have always enjoyed were the football field and the games room containing the table tennis. Last August, during the school holidays when most youngsters are present on site, neither amenity was available. The football field was being used for additional touring pitches and the games room was closed. Admittedly 2 table tennis tables were provided to the side of the reception building but try playing ping pong in a breeze! The CAMC map of the site still shows the 'football field' and the 'games room' which is mis -representing reality. If these amenities are not going to be available for 2023 then CAMC should make this clear so others are forewarned.

Love this site but it's getting tired

We love this site and have visited on many occasions but feel as it is becoming tired and not up to C & M club standard . Good points first - Location , easy access to Truro and Falmouth with bus stops just outside or across dual carriageway. Presentation - on arrival and driving around it is beautiful and floral . Lovely dog walk all the way around the big field amongst trees but look out for tree roots or around the large field adjacent to big camping field. Excellent motorhome filling and emptying facility. Great play area for children. Bad points - only area for not fully serviced pitches is carnon blue. The old toilet block for this area is tired and was not cleaned at all well whilst we were there although the male/female mixed showers were brilliant. The service points are damaged and unclean. There is no barrier and people come and go at will , no visitors registered at reception . No security as vehicles drive around unchallenged and are there for suspicious reasons. We had a van drive past our pitch at 1.30 am. We will always return and look forward to it being brought up to caravan club standards.

Lovely site - shame about the fish and chips!

We loved this site - clean and well-maintained with friendly staff and centrally located in Cornwall. It was very quiet with minimal noise from the nearby road - the bar was a lovely addition as was the pizza van - however the service and quality of the Weds night fish and chips fell sadly short of the rest of the site experience - shame it was our final night there!!

Excellent camp site, but expensive!

One of the best CAMC sites we have visited, and the new combined toilet/shower facilities are excellent. Staff were excellent and the standard of cleanliness cannot be faulted. However, it is just a camp site, with few added facilities that commercial sites may provide and it is difficult to justify the cost. A useful ‘snack bar’ but no real shop, so not possible to purchase essentials like bread etc. Visiting food vans were useful but quality was not great.
