Relaxing new year break

Lovely site with a friendly welcome from the wardens which was really appreciated. We got there and site very full so did not not really have much choice where to pitch but at this time of year it doesn't matter. Would go again..good location for winter touring. Ely is worth a visit. Wimpole hall was packed on New Year Day. Would have liked to walk to Cambridge and when we go again will give it and try and the dog friendly pub in the review below.  Husband enjoyed radio 2 playing in showers, which were spotless.

New Year Eve break

We have just stayed here to see the new year in with friends and was such an enjoyable stay, greeted by friendly staff and mulled wine and biscuits offered to start the new years eve celebrations.  Site was lovely with pitches dotted about in little nucks and crannies, there is no play park for little ones but lots of walks around a disused chalk quarry. The main road leading to park is very narrow and very busy so do take caution walking up to quarry and when arriving and leaving take the route suggested by the site and not by satnav. We walked to Cambridge and back from site which took us around an hour with a four year old, followed directions given from warden. Lovely looking around the colleges and churches and found a lovely pub "The Mill" down by the waters which allowed dogs and children in and excellent food and real ales. Well worth a stay

Spotlessly clean and friendly

We were only staying one night  but the site was spotless with great facilities for a motorhome.  All the pitches are hardstanding, although some pulled on to grass and might be difficult if wet.  We have a big unit so were limited in sites and chose the furthest from the entrance and the toilet block. It was a walk but not really far unless tipping down. It seemed expensive for one night but understand we hit Christmas peak season.

Nice for a short break

The title says it all.  Cherry Hinton is a great location if you wish to spend some time in Cambridge, other than that it's a pretty normal clean and well managed site.

Friendly and helpful wardens

I like the Cherry Hinton site for a number of reasons but on my visit last week, a number of the hard standing pitches were closed solely because they could be accessed only by crossing a small strip of grass between the pitch and tge access road. Because the grass was soft and muddy and I understand previous visitors had to be rescued, the wardens had been forced to close those particular pitches. Although nearly half of the pitches on the site are stated to be hard standing, they appear to be unusable after a period of wet weather. Also, a more general observation fir me personally; I dislike having to endure the inane and sometimes incessant chatter on Radio 2 when visiting the toilet block. Going in in the middle of a programme, one has no idea what the DJ is talking about and the banter is sometimes painful! Worse still, in the dishwashing area, the volume was so loud that it was virtually impossible to hold a conversation with anyone else in there. I realise that this doesn't only apply to the Cherry Hinton site and seems to be the general policy of the Club but I for one would rather not have to endure it. The trouble is, like it or not, there is no escaping from it, unless one visits the block late at night or very early in the morning.

Cambridge

Ideal site for Cambridge. Local bus only 5 mins walk running every 10 mins into city. Good local pub for food. Also close to Ely which was a lovely surprise. Will definitely visit again.

Lovely site

We both stayed here for two nights over the last weekend in November. Super location, lovely quiet setting with great access to Cambridge via regular bus service (every 10 minutes). A really friendly and helpful couple run this site and the shower/toilet facilities were spotless with plenty of hot water. Would highly recommend this site and will be coming back next time in Cambridge. Chris Voller 05.12.15

Visit to Cambridge

Staff were helpful and friendly on arrival we had to park and go and choose a site which seemed unusual but when you see the layout of the site it made sense. There was a lot of noise coming from what seemed like a sports facility so we chose to be in the dip but the sat dish couldn't locate a satellite however ariel reception was fine.  Cherry Hinton is a good location for visiting Cambridge with good bus services and the Robin Hood pub across the road serves good food and ale.  Facilities were good and clean with a good motohome service point.  Thank you Cherry Hinton for a nice stay.

Disappointing

Only went for 2 nights as we had to leave our seasonal pitch at Ferry Meadows for 48hours, site clean and good wardens but dog walk could have been walked by a tortoise in 2 minutes, alternative is a chalk pit opposite the site but you take your life in your hands walking down the road to it on a very narrow pavement with cars flying past you inches away. site ok for visiting Cambridge but we would never go again. Strange booking in procedure where you book in and leave your van outside reception and walk and find a pitch you then return for your van and only then can the next van come through the barrier which I would imagine will cause quite a tailback on busy days, have never known this at any other site

Well appointed and convenient

The situation of this site is ideal for visitors to Cambridge. (The park and ride is conveniently just a short distance away.) I have come to expect very high standards of cleanliness and maintenance on Caravan Club sites and this site is no exception. Helpful and cheerful staff are also up to the expected standard. The directory helpfully advises against using a Sat Nav as that would take you along a long length of the narrow Lime Kiln lane. Just to mention that we made a mistake and on arrival pulled up with the caravan at the wrong narrow barrier. There is a sign painted on the road but we had failed to see it. I would recommend the Cherry Hinton site.
