We've just had our second stay at Cherry Hinton. We use the campsite for our campervan and then get the bus (frequent no.1 & 3 buses to centre of Cambridge from bus stop 5 minutes walk away) to see our daughter and our new grandchild. Very easy and convenient and a lot cheaper than staying in a B & B / hotel (v expensive in Cambridge!). Robin Hood pub 5 minutes walk away - i.e. good value cooked breakfast between 10.00am and midday - only £10 for two including toast and coffee! We can't fault the friendly staff and facilities. They have thought of everything with the excellent loo block with the temperature always cosy (v welcome in the cold weather), constant hot water and hooks in abundance on doors etc. Large plots, good waste facilities, drinking water, hook up etc. Not really a site to keep young children entertained but that's not we look for here. You'd be hard pushed to find a better site overall.
Winter weekend
Just had a long weekend, lovely site for visiting Cambridge, site was almost full but never had any problems with the facilities, always spotless and no queues. We used the park and ride it's only a short drive from the site entrance, £6.40 for 2 adults into city centre including the parking, cheaper than the bus which is £4.10 each. Plenty to do in Cambridge and well worth a weekend visit.
What a lovely place.
I stayed with my Motorhome and 2 greyhounds for 2 days over the most stormy and hurricane blasted weekend in February 2016.
Luckily the pitch was nestled in the bottom of a quarry which I think protected us from the most violent winds. We (the dogs and I) enjoyed exploring the dog walks around the quarry 'walls' . An exciting woodland trail that climbs and climbs and goes through the lime kilns that the area is famous for.
Just opposite is another Nature Reserve Quarry which is slowly reverting back to nature and short and interesting walk and handy for the early morning walk of the day.
As I have a motorhome, driving into Cambridge was not an option, neither was the Park and Ride which was some distance away and only accessed by walking along a road without any pavement and fast traffic...However!....all was good as there are 2 buses that run into Cambridge from a bus stop 5 minute walk away in the opposite direction. Even on Sunday the Citi3 still runs every 20 minutes into Cambridge, and what a lovely place to visit. The Sunday I went there was a lovely artisan market in the centre and all the shops and churchs etc were open.
The couple in reception were very friendly and welcoming, and I left my phone in the toilets and after a momentary panic, went to reception and it had been handed in.
Very quiet and peaceful in the sunken location, no flooding and a very dry environment because of the well drained chalk, so good for dry paws on the dogs.
Will return and visit again soon.
great visiting location
Nice site with friendly Wardens, clean and well looked after toilet block. Easy road access but follow the instructions and don't arrive early. The site is located a short drive from a park and ride which makes visits to the centre, shops, colleges and restaurants etc very easy - every 10 mins and use your bus pass so a trip only costs a £1 for the parking.
Close to various NT and EH properties (but watch out for opening dates), Ely cathedral is near and worth a visit as is IWM Duxford.
Watch out in Cambridge for bus lanes as they are covered by cameras and wrong use can cost £60 unless paid within 14 days when its £30.

Very Handy for Cambridge.
Just had a 3 night stay here. Reception was very helpful and friendly. Had a full hardstanding non awning pitch so no problem with the wet. Shower blocks immaculate, but quite a few cubicles closed. Frequent buses into the city, £4.10p return for the other half, I've got a bus pass. A little noise from the college sports field but not obtrusive. The "Robin Hood" does good ales and reasonable food. We will return.
Weekend Break to Cambridge
We visited Cambridge as a short city break to relieve the monotony of work! The site is easy to find and is an excellent location for the city which was very pleasant. We took the bus which runs every 10 minutes and costs £4.40 return. There is little else around so it wouldn't suit us for more than a couple of days. The Robin Hood pub is a 5 minute walk and does average pub grub. If you have a dog there is a disused quarry over the road which is Ok for walks.
We were told on Friday when we arrived the site was full and it appeared to be so which is why we were disappointed to find that half the showers and some of the toilets were locked restricting access. This was an issue on Sunday when people were up and aiming to leave fairly early, a queue soon appeared causing a little frustration! Surely if a site is full ALL the facilities should be available. Of all the sites we have visited we found the staff a little lacking in enthusiasm when we checked in and wanted to enquire about local facilities. The office is only open for set hours throughout the day and we got the feeling if you needed anything outside of this it was a little inconvenient.
All in all a pleasant weekend but not somewhere I would rush back to.
A quick return!
On a total hard standing on our return. Site quieter midweek, enabling wardens to keep outfits off grass fronted pitches in the hope they will recover for another busy weekend!
Facilities excellent as usual even though some were closed presumably for the winter period. Tried the Robin Hood this time, very good food.
Wet January
Excellent site!
Because of very wet weather a lot of the hard standing sites with a grass fronting were hard to access. Drainage, or extension of hard standing a priority!
Wardens working hard to keep all pitches open when fully booked.
A lovely site
As always, a clean and well managed site with well trained staff. Be aware that you cannot arrive before 13.00!
All facilities were as expected and the site is easy to access and use, very quiet and so possibly not so good for families with young children to entertain.
We wanted to go into Cambridge which is only a 40 minute walk along some very pleasant parks and footpaths. The town is everything you would hope it would be and is really worth a visit. Book with confidence!
New Years stay with kids
Stayed here for 4 nights over new year.
Firstly I have to say the wardens are the best, most helpful and friendliest I have ever met. Nothing was too much trouble.
They sited us next to our friends and helped our friends get set up as they were new to caravaning.
The shower block is immaculate. Lovely and warm with modern facilities.
The site is a 5 min walk from a nearby pub and opposite the pub is the bus stop, with busses stopping every ten minutes to go into Cambridge (20 mins bus ride).
Bus was £14 for a family return.
Tesco`s extra just up the road.
All in all a great site in a great location for visiting Cambridge and Imperial War Museum.
Our only small criticism was there is no kids play area.
Other than that Spot On !!!
