Five star wardens

A site as only as good as the wardens and both couples here are wonderful. Lovely warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Spotless facilities with nice hot showers thanks to the new boilers. Lovely flat newly refurbished pitches and we were lucky to be be on the fully serviced pitches. Managed to get a good TV signal without using the bollard. Only negative the new club WiFi it's worse than before. Both of us purchased annual club WiFi and using the new Free WiFi between us we could only get one of 5 devices to work and even that kept dropping out, even though the site was only half full. I sincerely hope we will be refunded the remaining WiFi period we purchased. Unfortunately not sure how many more times we will use this one of our favourite club sites or any others due to the increase in prices when their are plenty of alternative sites much cheaper.

Another Cotswolds gem

Lovely staff, the shower block, service points and pitches were all well looked after during our stay, despite the appalling treatment of the toilets and showers by some guests. We received a warm welcome on arrival from the one of the site managers and this friendliness and good humour continued throughout our stay. When we started to setup we discovered that our designated electricity point had been taken by a guest on a pitch behind us on the other side of the hedge. This was resolved politely but firmly by the warden within 10 minutes, despite the objections of the other guest. 4G reception was poor, the TV signal intermittent at times and the the enclosed dog walk is a bit narrow when several owners are in the area at the same time ((the alternative dog walk is open and adjacent to a busy road and so dogs have to be kept on leads at all times and there are no safe dog walks off the site). Despite these issues we we had a lovely peaceful stay on the site and enjoyed the visits to the Wildlife Park across the road, Crocodiles of the World a short drive away and to the arboretum and falconry at Batsford near Moreton in Marsh about 30 minutes drive away. We would not visit the site again despite all of the positives because of the need to exercise our dogs but for non dog owners this would be a lovely, restful and well maintained site with some great places to visit.

First time experience

I’ll begin by saying how great my wife and I found this particular site. We’d only taken delivery of our caravan a few days before travelling from Swindon for a 3 night stay (not the furthest trip ever I appreciate but a marathon for previous non-pullers!). As well as an introduction to the technicalities involved in setting up our pitch, we were getting used to caravan life for the first time and this was an excellent place to start. Granted we were on a fully serviced pitch, quite deliberately, but we found the site well equipped in all respects and the friendly wardens were especially helpful, empathetic, understanding and knowledgeable to us novices. We know the area quite well and the wildlife park directly opposite which we’d visited before on numerous family trips was a bonus, with discount tickets available from the site a handy extra. To us, the site had everything you need and more and it was very apparent that the staff take a pride in maintaining the pitches and communal areas. Standards of hygiene and cleanliness were excellent and spacing/lay out made it easy to navigate, even when pulling a 24 foot ‘trailer’ for the first time. I’d have no reservation in recommending this site to anyone considering a Cotswold ‘base’ from which to do some exploring. Or as many seem to, merely a place to pitch up, kick back and relax away from life’s trials and tribulations. Our next trip already booked will be further afield as we gain confidence in the logistics of negotiating our roads but I have no doubt we’ll return again to Burford in the near future and there’s every chance we found the ‘jewel’ at the first time of asking!!

Exemplary staff

We stayed for a full week in August 2022 during a very hot week, 32 degrees or more every day. We found a shady grass pitch partially under a tree which was very welcomed in the heat. The four members of staff we had interactions with were a shining example of how all staff everywhere should treat their customers. Very friendly, chatty, helpful and lovely people to meet. Lovely tree filled site with excellent facilities, including food vendors on site 6 nights out of 7. A visit to the Wildlife park opposite was delightful, a real surprise was all the planting, trees, flowers and exotic plants which enhanced the experience and we would recommend to anyone staying here. The only negative parts of our visit were rogue children playing football beside our motorhome (despite being told not to by us and staff) and another couple near us who did nothing to stop their untethered terrier yapping endlessly every time anyone moved within 50 feet of their pitch. I guess these kind of things happen on a lot of sites and the staff cannot do much other than politely ask people to consider other visitors/campers. Overall a great site well worth a visit. We will return for sure.

Large enough for V Large Motorhomes

Fantastic leafy, clean, friendly site. Made sure we had a large pitch which was a great pitch and easily accomodated our 10m winnebago motorhome. Loved our short stay here, and will definately put it on our touring list. Well done Burford Team.

Sadly disappointed with Warden

We are in storage on this site as we live 100 miles away. This was our 3rd visit this year. Cotswold Wildlife Park is brilliant-a lovely walk, fabulous gardens-and the animals are the icing on the cake ( we are late 60`s in age but you don`t need children to enjoy this venue). Moreton is lovely-definitely visit the Black Bear for a meal-fabulous! We have always found the site to be immaculate--such a great idea to have afternoon cleaning of showers facilities etc.It took the CAMC how long to think that was a great idea??-Wardens so friendly and helpful-until our last afternoon before leaving! We could not have been more shocked-a campervan on the pitch next to us had put their “drive away” awning ENTIRELY on our pitch! The wardens decided in their wisdom that it was fine for them to do so-"wouldn`t want to inconvenience new campers"! What that decision did was to spoil our last afternoon and evening-and our last morning! The neighbours were so close we could not possibly have sat outside and had a conversation without them hearing-we could hear and see them and the candle they had burning inside the entrance to their awning. Had we used the caravan BBQ point for gas to the front of our van-we would have flooded their hexagonal awning with smoke! We are not that inconsiderate! We have been CAMC members for 2o+ years and this is the first time we have encountered an issue of this scale-you are suddenly expected to share a pitch? Your neighbours can pitch their awning on your pitch? Not acceptable at all as far as we are concerned. When a Warden can undermine a customer, with so little regard of the impact of his decision, you have to wonder why you ever joined the CAMC in the first place-Sadly we will not be staying on this site ever again because we rent a pitch-not half of a pitch! We don`t book a pitch to share with another unit-why would you? We stayed 5 nights until 23.7.22

Comment from the Club:

I'm sorry to learn your stay wasn't fully as expected and I trust you have been in contact with the Club formally to review this. The Clubs pitching policy is to accept outfits either pitched nose in or reversed on to the pitch marker and we know in many of our locations, this flexibility allows our guests to experience the very best from the landscape and views that surround them at many of our Campsite locations and sometimes to create a shared space if pitching with family or friends.

We know privacy is an important aspect for many guests and that this will be a priority when considering how to best locate and position their outfit. At all times the fire regulation spacing must be in place to avoid the spread of fire, there must be at least 6 metres spacing between facing walls of adjacent caravans, motorhomes or trailer tents and a minimum clear space of 3 metres between adjoining cars, awnings tents in any direction. Our site staff are not able to observe and assist everyone arriving and so on occasion will ask members to reposition to ensure the fire regulations are in place and, if they were encroaching on another members pitch.

Great site - will return

Our first visit to this site, it is lovely - the wardens are friendly and helpful, the facilities are immaculate and the site is well laid out. Perfect location to explore the Cotswolds or just relax in peace. We were sad to leave. We stayed for 7 nights with friends. Perfect holiday. We won’t bother with the wifi next time though - it’s hopeless, we don’t usually use it as our mobiles suffice, but the signal there is not great. The wardens kindly put us in touch with the people who provide the wifi & we got a refund.

New caravaners - great stay

As new caravaners we really don’t have much to compare to but our 4 night trip at the beginning of August was just right. A friendly warm welcome, excellent reception kiosk & we felt lucky to be able to chose our pitch - which are roomy. Shower & WC’s were clean & spacious and visiting food vendors were a treat. Unless you are keen walkers/cyclists I would say you couldn't walk anywhere/to Burford, main road has grass verges and unlit. Burford is a lovely place to visit, eat & drink and other villages are an easy drive away. We used park & ride and had a fab day in Oxford. A very central location & we will definitely return

Burford......Absolutely!!

My first visit to Burford and pleasantly surprised at the number of bike ride possibilities there were from site by road or one of the many bridleways nearby the site. Like one of the other reviewers I did get the "I've parked on the other side of the site so I should be able to take the shortest route to the facilities even if I walk all over someone else's pitch brigade". There are grass boundaries provided between pitches to walk on but because I had a Campervan and no awning I had several people who seemed to think it was okay to walk right across my pitch within a few feet of my van without a by your leave. Perhaps a few reminders at check in for the more Ignorant or maybe issue cattle prods as well as barrier keys?! The facilities were kept immaculately and the wardens were very friendly and warm. Lots to see and do within reasonable driving distances and some truly beautiful nearby locations in addition to Burford itself which is a very pretty town and actually offers free if slightly limited parking (yes you heard that right FREE) to be able to access the town which does have a rather steep hill you might want to avoid if your legs are a bit wobbly when walking like mine. Would I go again?........already booked and back there in a few days
