Lovely Site but overpriced!

The site & the staff are brilliant. We have used this campsite every year since 2001 & it has been consistently above average. However, the prices for a pitch & 2 adults....£27.00 a night? I thought they'd moved it to the Lake District....... One of the main reasons for being a member of the Caravan Club, is that you get consistently good sites at reasonable prices...... This seems to be changing.......for the worse! There is much more competition out there nowadays.  You can park your motorhome on one of the dedicated parking slots on the main car park in Brecon, from 1800-0800 for Free! Britstops have many Free overnighting spots all over the country & they're growing. Time to reconsider our membership!

Brilliant site

We have been using this site for many years and the recent refurbishment of the site is brilliant. The roads and signage are excellent while the toilet blocks are outstanding. Facilities across the site really are of the highest order and the Caravan Club is to be congratulated on the overall and long overdue improvements. Well done to the Club and the Wardens who keep the site in immaculate condition.

A Lovely Site

I loved this site.  In spite of a disappointing forecast the weather was beautifully sunny.  Facilities were everything you would expect from the CC.  It was spacious, leafy and quiet, with the dramatic backdrop of the Brecon Beacons - sit and watch the spectacular cloud formations over the mountains.  My elderly dog loved the dog-walk, and galloped around like a puppy.  It's a pleasant stroll even without a dog - wide grassy paths along a wooded slope bordered with bluebells and wildflowers, down to a rocky stream, and filled with birdsong.  Over a bridge across the stream and it's a 5 or 6 minute walk along a back lane to a nearby village and a dog-friendly pub.  5 minutes across the dual carriageway and down some steps leads you onto the canal towpath.  In one direction it's a 30-40 minute easy stroll into Brecon.  In the other direction you can walk for miles along the Taff Trail, easy walking along flat paths, through the beautiful valley of the Usk, with spectacular views of the Beacons in the background. A word of warning: the village of Pencelli was much further away than I expected, and when we got there, tired and thirsty, the small pub was closed (1.30pm) and there was nothing much to see.  Much better to come off the towpath at Bridge 158, turn left and walk 10 or 15 minutes down the road to the pretty village of Llanfrynach, where the White Swan serves excellent food all day. Car parks in Brecon are motor home friendly (no height barriers), but the supermarket car parks are not very big.  There is a large (pay and display) car park a little way out on the other side of the town, situated on the bank of the Usk, with a pleasant walk by the river back into town along The Promenade.

Great base and lovely staff!

Our first visit and a lovely site very well maintained. Brecon is close but still a car drive away. Its small streets and shops can pass a good few hours before walking down to the River Usk. We only stayed a couple of nights on our way back from Pembrokeshire but will choose this site over Tredegar House in future as it has much more to offer for us.

Great site and staff

Looking forward to another weekend on the BH. Last BH, had a great time. Staff and facilities as usual could not have been better. Staff work extremely hard keeping this site to a 5 star standard and are a credit to the Club. Local pub again supplied us with a really nice meal, top notch. Shop well stocked and staff here also very helpful.

Fantastic site and location

The site itself is one of the best we have visited. Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from the staff and given tips on the best available pitches. There are both grass and hard standing pitches. The site shop is the biggest and best we have seen, selling groceries, newspapers and the essential caravanning items. The facilities were all spotless. There is a large park for children. There is a short dog walk available which goes down to a stream. There are dog washing facilities available which are useful. Brecon town centre is a short walk along the canal where there are plenty of shops, pubs and cafés. Walk was very pleasant by day but I wouldn't walk it after dark. A village pub (dog friendly) is less than 10 minutes walk down a track which seemed very popular by night. Along the canal in the other direction was a lovely flat walk with a beer garden and village shop if you walk far enough (few miles). Pen Y Fan and other local attractions are within a short drive.

A lovely site in a lovely place, but....

This is a really nice, well kept site, which is in the perfect place for exploring the Brecon Beacons and surrounding area. It has one of the best shops I have seen on any site do far. Staff are friendly and helpful. Toilet blocks modern, spacious and spotlessly clean. However, the one annoying thing is the poor TV reception on site - we found plenty of Freeview channels 'available', using a signal booster on a standard triangular aerial on our motorhome - but the signal constsntly breaks up. The site really needs a good TV signal piped to the EHU bollards - as seen at many other sites.

May visit

Our first visit since refurbishment. The shower block was very impressive and we enjoyed the music! We enjoyed visits to Abergavenny on Tuesday market day and to Merthyr over the beautiful scenic route on Saturday market day. Not impressed by Brecon but enjoyed walking along the canal. A couple of moans. We like parking under trees for shade but all the white pegs which we'd booked were in the middle in full sun. Most of the red serviced pitches were empty but we weren't offered them when we phoned. The dog walk is lovely though can be slippery when wet. We leave our friendly Labrador off lead in the dog walk unless we see other dogs on leads. However the wardens came from behind a hedge suddenly before I could put the lead on. I called out that he is friendly and non aggressive but I was met with a hysterical tirade telling me to control my dog. This was overheard by another lab owner who was as bewildered as me and he happily let his dog play with mine. The encounter greatly upset me and ruined my day.

First time on a CC site as a new members. Very impressed.

We joined the club specifically to stay on this site and we were not disappointed. Very modern facilities, which were kept in pristine condition. Given the large size of the site and how busy it was, we found this very impressive. On arrival we were greeted very warmly and on leaving I was further impressed that the receptionist/warden remembered my name. This site is well placed for people wishing to walk in the Beacons, with walks for all abilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Only let down by its wifi

This a fabulous site and is exceptionally well maintained by the wardens. After the huge refurbishment by the club, the facilities are first class with the exception of the wifi. Why oh why in the cost of a refurbishment like this could the club get wifi so wrong. It is intermittent, is under 1 mb (and I am pitched beside a relay) and quite frankly should NOT be advertised as a Wifi enabled site. Hence, I Only give it 3 stars.
