Nice site & wardens but shame Blackpool going downhill

We stayed for two nights at Blackpool South Club Site and having stayed here before, I still think that site is good. This was our first outing due to the Corona Virus lockdown and could only manage a short break. We stayed during Covid & social distancing and I have to say that the wardens - who were really helpful and friendly, are doing a fantastic job under the current circumstances. Our chosen pitch was to the right of the entrance barrier and amongst trees. Unfortunately, we could not use our satellite dish due to the trees and this Club site does not have a TV aerial outlet in the EHU Bollard. The alternative was to pitch next to a family in a trailer tent with 100 kids whereby all of them seemed to have different luminous hair colours sat out drinking. So we forfeited the TV! There is road noise although distant but Cropper Road attracts the odd big bore exhaust driver during the night, so my recommendation would be to select a pitch on the far side away from the entrance for maximum peace. We took a taxi into the centre and used the sites recommended taxi company. Great going outbound but failed to show for the booking on the return. We did manage to get an alternative booking though. Blackpool - I've been going to Blackpool at least once a year from birth and I have to say that this year, I was so disappointed. Firstly, there seemed to be zero social distancing at any of the attractions and staff weren't policing it whatsoever and without facemasks. South Pier - we was rubbing shoulders with others as it was that busy and hardly anyone else was wearing a face mask. Even the pier staff weren't bothered. Then there was the drugs. It seems acceptable now to smoke marijuana on Blackpool promenade and have a competition in who can say the worse swear words aloud. Unfortunately, such scenes were common between walking from the Pleasure Beach to the Tower. I accept that times change but if that is now the norm, I don't think that Blackpool will get our future business. As someone else has mentioned, Lytham St Annes is lovely and at the opposite to Blackpool and I would recommend visiting here for the town high street shops and the beach - which are clean. For those new to Blackpool, the site is situated at the end of the motorway, within 5mins drive to a supermarket & fuel and 10mins drive to the seafront at Starr Gate. For motorhomes, Public transport is a bit of a trek to the bus stop and I would suggest taking a taxi (between £8 to £11 depending on driver) or hiring a car.

lovely quietish site so close to the seafront you can smell the chips

A friendly welcome to this deceptively small site that is immaculate. I changed another booking and came back again two weeks later and was remembered and pointed to a disabled site without having to ask. Spotless and beautifully landscaped. The new dog walk - which is a large pitch they have fenced off was very welcome as the outside road is much busier this year. Just off a well signed round about it is very easy to find. Just down the road you can see the tower and it is only about 10 minutes to the Blackpool car parks. One of those gems that the club has and well recommended for families and dog lovers.

Very pleasant site

8m motorhome 2 adults 2 kids. We spent 3 nights here in July and hired a car from enterprise just 5 minutes away on my folding bike. Staff very friendly, pitches very flat and shower/toilet block up to usual club standards. Site is located very close to M55 so very easy access. Blackpool centre is around 10 minutes by car but visit Lytham if you get the chance, it's lovely and a complete contrast to Blackpool. We would stay again but have far too many other places to see first.

Proffesional and friendly

We were recently at this site where we have previously stayed a number of time before. On this occasion my husband was taken suddenly ill and was unable to walk. The wardens on duty, Julie in particular were very helpful and supportive. They phoned for an ambulance and waited with us until it arrived. As my husband was hospitalised locally for a number of days it was neccessary for me to leave Blackpool and return home with our motorhome although I was told I would be able to stay on if this was needed. The site wardens were very kind and willing to help with anything I needed and their kind words were reassuring and helpful to me. The entire team at Blackpool should be proud of themselves, in these difficult times they went the extra mile.

A lovely well maintained site

Arrived shortly after lockdown lifted and we were very pleased with all the measures that had been put in place to protect visitors to the site. We are newbies to motorhoming and found the lady in reception very friendly and welcoming on our arrival and also throughout our stay. Found other users on the site very friendly and were given lots of useful information and advice on how to pack our awning away of which we were most appreciative. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit site again.

Great site overall

Had a great few days at this very well kept site. The toilets and showers were immaculate and were cleaned throughout the day to keep abreast of COVID-19. At first we thought the wrist band idea of allowing controlling people into the toilet/shower was a good idea. However it soon became apparent that some people were walking out of the toilet/showers, without taking the wristbands with them, leaving them on the hooks giving the impression that the toilets were occupied. Hence, people were left queuing unnecessarily. We also found we had to wait for a long time to use the toilet, if people were just using showers. Obviously people take a lot longer to shower. Would it not be an idea to have 2 rows of hooks - one for the showers and one for the toilets ? Also whilst the toilets/showers are being cleaned can the emergency toilets be opened please ? Hope you take my suggestions in good faith. Thank you.

Lovely staff & COVID safe!

We arrived on the 4th July at @09:30 as this was the first day open since the COVID lockdown not really knowing what to do or expect. Firstly, the site is really easy to find off the M55 and is only @1/2 mile on main roads leading to the site. On turning into the site there are 2 sets of electric barriers (both closed at night with key fob access). We were met at the barrier by one of the wardens who was very welcoming. He explained the new procedures, checked we had paid and directed us to choose any pitch we wanted. The site was well laid out with good sized hard standings to surrounding the central wash blocks. Everything was very well kept and the toilet facilities were spotless with a very sensible system in place to limit numbers due to the pandemic. Central Blackpool is @2 miles to the West with its ecliptic sites and sounds. There was a little noise from the road but nothing too serious. Overall a very nice site!

Fabulous staff great team!

I had just bought my new caravan this was my first time out, I had read myself to sleep on many an evening studying the manual, I thought I had covered everything and practiced everything so Blackpool South was my practical trial. Thank goodness for the professional service they offer I was shown how to unhitch and hitch correctly if it wasn't for the fantastic staff and there fabulous customer service I may well have damaged my van or worse still had an accident. Fantastic customer service friendly approachable staff great tidy site ideal spot for exploring the renowned national treasure of Blackpool.

Hard working wardens make this site

We are quite regular at this site, early and late season, and love its location. Easy drive to Stanley Park, St Anne’s and of course Blackpool. We arrived this time to be very impressed. Approach kerbs painted white and a lovely clear area by the office give a great impression. Recently added gravel has improved hard standing and looks good. The whole place is spick and span which shows how hard staff have worked and continue to do so. The notice board introduces the area with lovely ideas and a degree of humour. Lovely welcome and cheery waves throughout our stay. Some traffic noise, especially early in the morning but we haven’t noticed it before so might be temporary due to a road closure. A word of warning, the approach road has some serious potholes in one part, the council needs to sort it.

Another great stay

We stopped at this site for a weekend (13th-15th March) stay to check out the van after a long time in winter storage. The welcome we received on arrival was second to none. The wardens were extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the local area. The location of the site is great, not far off the M55 at all and a 5/10 minute drive to Blackpool Prom. A short walk down the lane is a cafe were you can meet meerkats on a Saturday! The site itself was great and the toilet/washing facilities were clean and warm. The slight downside is the road noise but this is during the day only. In the evening it all quietens down. The site is great for a weekend getaway or for a longer stay. We will definitely stay here again!
