Peaceful Site

Our first visit to this site although we have been coming to the New Forest for many years. Ideal for walking from site as you are virtually surrounded by forest and our dog loved it. Site appearance and facilities were excellent and staff made us feel welcome. Well done! We will certainly be returning

Darting around the new forest

Second time visiting this site and enjoyed it as much as the first, top site for dog walking and local attractions the site facilities were in great order and really like the separate bathroom for privacy.

Our favourite site.

We have stayed on this site several times and we love it. We usually combine our visits here with my work, so my wish list would be for Wi-Fi. Having patchy phone reception on site, Wi-Fi would be an essential addition.

Peace and Tranquility

Having stayed at several sites in the New Forest this was our first trip to Black Knowl which has now become our new favourite in the Forest thanks to the peaceful surroundings and stepping out of the site straight into the forest. The facilities are good albeit a little different to the standard identikit club norm with individual shower, toilet and washbasin rooms accessed by key and the site is nicely laid out with plenty of room around pitches.

Great setting, excellent clean facilities

Just back from our first ever holiday in the MH. Glad we picked Black Knowl. We were met by very friendly and helpful staff in reception. Site is well laid out and not cramped. The grass pitches were not in use so might be a bit more crowded when they are. Facilities were very clean albeit a little old fashioned but fine. Never had to queue. Site was very quiet only the Owls could be heard at night. The site is within a 40 minute walk of Brockenhurst which is a delightful small town. Dog walking within 150 yards of the camp site. On site shop sells the essentials so either bring all you need or carry them from Brockenhurst. Definitely a site we would return to. We stayed 4 nights.

Truly is one of the best sites we've stayed at

We haven’t been caravanning  very long (our visit here was our 4th caravan holiday since we started caravanning in October last year).  For my wife and I, this is hands down the best site we have stayed at.  We have previously been to a basic site on a fully serviced pitch, and a couple of holiday “parks” where there is lots of entertainment and facilities laid on.  Black Knowl beats all of these hands down.  It is the most peaceful, quiet site, helped by the fact it is away from any roads and as soon as you leave the site you are in open forest.  The Facilities are immaculate – I never used the showers as I prefer my own caravan shower, but I did have nose in the shower rooms (which are individually accessible from outside via a key  which is provided by reception during check-in).  These rooms are self contained and each have a shower cubicle of good size, a toilet and a sink with mirror.  Maybe a little dated but not worn out or dirty like some of newer facilities can be!  So I wouldn’t have a problem using them if I needed to. The site is spotless and very well maintained too.  TV reception was the best we’ve had yet (using a fixed antenna). My only comment would be that due to this site having a very quiet and peaceful atmosphere, I wouldn’t recommend it for families – I would imagine you would be seen as upsetting the peace if you had kids playing outside.  Having said that, its not an adult only site so there is nothing stopping you.  One final thing; this is definitely a dog owners  preferred site – everyone around us had at least one dog (some 2 or 3).  Despite this, barking was minimal and all the dogs were kept on leads, so not an issue at all.  We will definitely be back! If this site had fully serviced pitches it would be 5 stars!

So handy.

On site as I type first the 4 star scores , facilities are now well out of date but well maintained . Too few water/waste points. Big enough for some premier and serviced pitches. The rest is 5 star . Natures sounds are all around at night , the forest trails at the door , ponies everwhere and lots of neat villages locally.  Coastal attractions so easy to reach as is Winchester with it's Cathedral and Military Museums . Helpful wardens and well kept pitches . Be away by 1130 and don't arrive before noon the road is too narrow for easy passing. We met a motorhome at 2pm as we approached and we were lucky he was able to turn into forest parking area.

Selfish members

Why oh why, when the open New Forest is just outside the site gate, are dog owners so lazy as to take their dogs for the necessary visits within the site, and particularly on the grass areas, where come the summer, children will be playing and other users will be erecting their awnings on the grass where dogs have previously left their deposits. This reminds us why we rarely now visit some club sites. CL's are far better policed and seem to be better respected by members. Maybe this site should be made family only, with no dogs. Otherwise a site whose situation is hard to better.

First Visit Review

We have just returned from a few days at Black Knowl, fantastic location, right in the heart of the forest, and only a 35 minute traffic free walk to Brockenhurst. The wardens were friendly and helpful, and although it was too early for the fish and chip van to visit the site, they recommended the Fish and Chip shop in Brockenhurst, which we tried and were very good. We used our Days Out voucher to visit Bucklers Hard, very interesting museum and lovely riverside walk to Beaulieu. The shower facilities are a bit different, but kept very clean and were lovely and warm. No playground on site for children, but plenty of cycling and forest to play in. We will revisit this site as soon as we can, hopefully later this year.
