Wonderful Site

This was our first time on a club site after using CLs for many years, so we were unsure how we would get on with a larger site. We needn't have worried - it was just as good and the kids found friends to play with in no time. The site itself is great - really well drained (we had some very  heavy and prolonged rain on a couple nights and we never once had to deal with puddles or mud! The shop had all the emergency essentials you would need and the warden team was amazingly helpful - even to the extent of phoning the Isle of Wight Ferry company to answer a question I had asked. The facilities on the site were great - clean and no shortage of hot water in the showers. Having so many individual cubicles with shower, toilet and basin must have made it a real job to keep on top of - but they were always clean and fresh. The location is brilliant for cycling in the New Forest - which we did lots of, as well as trips to the beaches at Lymington and Christchurch. There are plenty of wild New Forest ponies all around the site  - but the cattle grid keeps them off the site itself. We also had a run out to the IoW as mentioned earlier. Nearby Brockenhurst has a Tesco & Sainsbury's for your groceries as well as some lovely pubs and a takeaway. There are also several cycle hire places if you don't take your own. We will definitely be coming back here!

Perfect for nature lovers

We are currently enjoying a weeks break at this lovely site.  The position is perfect, right in the heart of the New Forest, but with a sunny open aspect.  Lots to do and see in the area.  We have visited the Motor Museum and Bucklers Hard - be sure to use your club vouchers for good reductions in entry fees.  Another day out in Bournemouth - can recommend the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum.  Hired bikes for a days ride in Burley.  Walks in the forest right from the site. But the highlight for me has been the wildlife.  Being able to hear the Owls at night and hear and see the deer getting ready for the rut.  Even woken this morning by the deer bellowing and clashing of antlers just outside the site! We even like the quirky facilities.  Hope to return in the future.  Highly recommended.

Don't change too much

By far our most favourite site ok it's not the most modern but what it lacks in quality it more than makes up in the location of the site. The shower block does need a bit of TLC but don't change too much because it's lovely to be able shit shower and shave in one room.

First Time at Black Knowl

Judging by the other caravanners this is a site for cyclists and for them I would say it is perfect. There seems to be lots of flat forest around to cycle on. The toilet blocks are old and, I would say, long overdue for renewal but they were always clean. Very peaceful even with the surprising number of pitches that were there.  We took the only two children who were there I reckon and there wasn't a playground.  No wifi of course but I used 3G on Three fine.

Needs updating

Lovely position, but seriously needs updating, so little hard standing. Grass pitches unlevel & muddy. Toilet block requires a big renovation, not nearly enough facilities for the number of pitches. Will not be returning until site is updated more like a Camping & Caravan site. Not worth the money they charge for mid September.

Time Standing Still !!!

We have stayed at this site for a number of years. Time as come to update the shower block. Also after a very long journey there is no place to wait with your caravan, Pull in at the top of the road before the drive down to the site as now been shortened with blocks to enter, therefore like us with a long caravan its made our visit very difficult. A late arrival area would be very much appreciated.

We come back every year!

A wonderful location, a wonderful site. Walking and cycling that you'll never get bored with. We simply come back at a different part of the year and the forest looks and smells completely different. Wardens really helpful, advising us on the New Forest Marathon start times and road closures, didn't distrupt our Sunday too much, just needed to leave an hour earlier than planned. Love the toilet block, so individual.

We love Black Knowl

Fantastic site right in the middle of the forest. Clean, tidy and cared for by very friendly wardens. Choice of grass or hard standing pitches (nice size too). Yes, the toilet block is old but it was always clean so no moans from us. Small shop, information room, under-cover washing up area and all the usual CC facilities. 30-40 minute stroll into Brockenhurst (each way) where you'll find all you need from supermarkets, pubs and restaurants (Dynasty Indian was ace!). 4 mile (each way) walk to Lyndhurst (also through the forest) with all you need there too (busier than Brockenhurst). Numerous other walking and biking routes straight from the site. We had perfect weather during our time there, which always helps! We try and stay here every 2 years so roll on 2017!

Back in the saddle

After selling our caravan and leaving the club three years ago we found we missed caravanning so much we decided to start again, and as we had been to Black Knowl before and liked it we chose this site for our first trip, it was just as good as we remembered it, we like the toilet block with all the separate toilets/showers etc. and although a bit tired they are clean and functional so no complaints, the site is well laid out and the wardens helpful and friendly, and the dog made full use or the Ober water stream in the adjacent woods, so glad to be back in the saddle again.
