What a great site

We have just returned from a weekend and having read other reviews we were a little dubious but could not fault the site yes there are some small potholes on the approach road but if you are keeping your speed down these are small and easily avoided,  you are in the country so what would you expect. The shower and toilet facilities are great love the fact that they are all individual family rooms, nice and clean and warm. Wardens were very friendly, great base for walking and cycling. We will definitely be back

Not The Best

We stayed for 2 nights in early November weekend, lots of showers at times. The site offers immediate access to open heathland, walks and cycle trails. The site was quiet and peaceful. The grass pitches due to the time of year were not in use. The site is very dark and could do with more lighting, not peoples fault for accidentally driving over the grass and being told off by the warden, really! The toilet facilities albeit clean were very outdated and to make matters worse are closed mid morning. Many other sites are left until after 12:00hrs. The access road (not under CC control) has some high speed ramps and lots of pot holes so be carefull. Route to the site is awkward. The site rules require a departure by 11.30, we were off by 09:30 and could not wait to leave, not again.

Ideal forest setting

We stayed for 4 days in early November, weather was mild and some light showers at times. The site offers immediate access to open heathland, walks and cycle trails. Site was quiet and peaceful.Due to time of year grass pitches not in use so site was maybe at half its summer capacity. We didnt use site tiolet facilities.  Downsides are toilets closed mid morning (why cant this be left to after 12.00 like other sites?) . The access road (not under CC control) has some high speed ramps - taken with extreme care we didnt ground the caravan. Lastly the site rules require a departure by 11.30.

Would we come back? - possibly , but if the Camping in the Forest site Aldridge Hill was open (this site served by the same access road) we would go there instead.

Great weekend

Had a great stay at Black Knowl, prior to arriving I was a bit tentative due to the reviews I had read regarding the facilities however although they are not the best I have seen they were always clean and functional.

Going Downhill Fast

Been to this site several times over the years and have seen the facilities deteriorate each visit. Black mould, broken tiles, shower heads falling off housings, most shower cubicles without holders for soaps/shampoos etc, toilets that don't flush properly, all in all these are now the worst facilities I have had the misfortune to use.  Some of the hardstanding pitches flood when raining and cause a lot of problems for people who have awnings. Something else I objected to was that I didn't have the opportunity to choose my own pitch as I usually do.

First time back after 10 years

Last time we stayed we had kids, now they are both in their 20's. However the site has just not changed one bit. Its a great location and although not special looking in itself , you walk out of the gate and you are in the most glorious forest with walking wherever you wish. Local town Brockenhurst still has a good butcher, but also now a Tesco and Sainsburies local. As far as the facilities go, we don't ever use them , the outside looked as it did, 10 years ago.

At long last news on toilet improvements

Our favourite site despite the loos, pleased to hear improvements are in hand. Dissapointed no newspaper arrangements and warden commenting no plans to arrange newspapers next year! Surely with at least three newsagents in Brokenhurst & a little effort something could be arranged - I like my news with breakfast without an hours walk or getting in the car.

A brilliant site

Great site, friendly wardens and warm welcome. Facilities dated by some club standards but very clean and warm. Overall, a brilliant site!  Will be staying there again.

Showers - A Let Down

You can’t fault this site for its location; in fact it’s probably my favourite and that of many other members. It’s not the cheapest site so why oh why do we have to put up with the antiquated showers. The club now own this site so what is the delay in having new toilet blocks. The system can’t cope but much worse is the age and condition of the block, which apparently was built in the early 70’s. Broken tiles, shower trays with the surface so worn it’s down to the cast concrete, mould in the grout, taps that leak or don’t even turn off, flaking emulsion paint on the walls/pipe work and one toilet in the gents that has been out of action for some time with the door fixed shut. In my marking I gave the facilities 1 star. I must add that I can’t fault the cleanliness; the wardens do a great job with what they’ve got. They must be as frustrated as the members and yet keep the block up to an acceptable condition. However they are fighting a losing battle. This can’t go on for much longer. The location must be a jewel in the CC’s crown but not until they give the members something decent in the way of a new shower block.
