Short stay

Lovely site. Individual shower blocks a real joy. However - the access road is in a dangerous state due to some deep pot holes which put both vehicles and people at risk

Lovely Site, but............

Just spent a few days at Black Knowl. Lovely site as always, perfect for us and our dog, and easy to get to other parts of the New Forest. Warm welcome on arrival from the "lady" wardens but the men looked as miserable as sin most of the time - why do they do the job if they don't like it ?  The "but" in the title is about the access road, which is in appalling condition. There are some serious potentially car/caravan damaging potholes so please take care on the approach road.

Peaceful, well located site

Only the hardstanding pitches were in use when we visited (midweek, March) so it was only about 30% full and very quiet. Friendly, helpful staff and retro shower cubicles - very private, I'd keep them but apparently they're due for renovation. The walks from the site are fantastic, particularly along the Lymington River if you're lucky enough to find it. Why not 5 stars? Well, firstly the speed bumps on the approach road are unnecessarily vicious and even at a crawl you may catch your stowed jockey wheel (or worse) on them. Secondly, walking distance to Brockenhurst is a good 40 minutes via a roundabout route across open forest (heathland) which at one point was impassably boggy. You wouldn't want to do this walk back from a night in the pub! But it's a great spot for walkers and immaculately maintained by a hard-working staff. Recommend the Snakecatcher pub in the village, good food, nice contemporary atmos, if you prefer a more traditional, old style pub vibe then the Foresters is also good.

Lovely site

We stayed for two nights from 11th March 2016. Lovely site not far from Brokenhurst, ideally suited for dog owners to walk their pets through the Forest (we don't have a dog but many did). Quiet and away from any main roads. The facilities are clean and well maintained with unusual shower/toilet rooms that are ideal for families with young children as well as separate male and female toilet facilities. Our one gripe really is that the shower rooms could do with hand wash and hand driers as well as a bin. The site office stocks a selection of essentials however Brokenhurst is only five minutes by car away and has a butcher, fruitier, local supermarkets, several decent take it away food outlets and a fantastic camping and pet supply shop that even stocked push fit connection to fix a leak on my caravan hot water system. I can not praise the staff enough for their helpful and friendly service. Yes we will be taking our children there again.

In The Forest

We arrived for the last four days remaining before the site closed for the winter. A lovely part of the forest, with loads of areas to visit walking from the site. I must say the toilet block was different, if not a little dated, but i did enjoy the separated sections to use. The main problem for us was access to the toilet block as we had parked at the top area, no steps, and as quite wet the grass was very slippery. The other problem we had was accessing the site with loads of pot holes, the ramps were ok as well posted for us to see, but go very slow over them or you will ground. We will be back next year that's for sure.

Improvements on the Way?

Agree entirely with Lady Bear's review 19/11/15.  Stayed for 3 nights in mid Nov.  Had read reviews about the state of the toilet block so expectations were subdued.  Yes, it's a tired old creature, with worn-out fittings, limping on, thanks to the dedication of the site staff.  Well done to them for keeping the place spic and span.  Is it true that the Club is going to build a new toilet block?   It's a good site, and I intend to return.  A minor point: be careful going over the speed humps on the access road to the site - pick your line to avoid grounding, as one caravan did.

Good Site

We stayed the last weekend of the season Friday 13th Nov 15 till Sunday.  We had a lovely time, very chilled.  Drive into campsite there are a few pot holes and large speed bumps.  The toilet block is very much due an uplift, looking very tired, but loved having individual cubicles.  Agree with previous reviews that some pitches may get wet!! however you can't have everything. I will definitely come back as overall its a very nice site

Great site

Very helpful staff and excellent location. Toilet block due for update soon and needs it. Very wet weather meant that some hard standings flooded. We will be back soon.
