Disappointed

This is typical of the worst things about C&MHC sites. Yes, lovely shower block. But it’s so dull and boring to look at, just loads of pitches, many seemed quite crammed together with little privacy. It’s a longish walk into the village if you’re not able, and there’s not much there anyway. Also it’s a total rip off at over £30 (mid-late September). We didn’t stay as long as we’d planned. There are other sites far superior in every way for a lot less money. I would not revisit and would only recommend to dog owners.

great

Quiet site, except sound of animals particularly rutting deer, surrounded by miles of flat heathland. Small villages. Good for walkers and cyclists. Very busy site. Fully serviced areas in centre like being the limelight - in a goldfish bowl.

Peaceful perfect site

We visited this site early September and found it to be one of the cleanest sites we have visited. Everything was within walking distance including a quaint village with eateries welcoming four legged friends. Fabulous walks from the site perfect for seeing many other four legged friends, including deer, ponies, cows, donkeys and we were there for the pigs pannage. A little off putting at first but lovely too. Would thoroughly recommend this site and wardens were very friendly too.

Excellent Site

We decided to stay at Black Knowl for 4 nights to enable us to make our annual visit to the Southampton Boat Show, and were VERY impressed. The location is idyllic amidst the trees of the New Forest (the approach road is long, and both ourselves and friends who came at the same time thought we'd gone wrong, but we hadn't... Our hard-standing pitch was absolutely smack on level side to side with just a tweak of the jockey wheel fore and aft. The ablutions block was astounding, among the best we've ever used, both from a caravan or boating (marina) point of view. The staff were very pleasant, and obviously take a pride in the site if the amount of work they put in is anything to go by. We'll certainly go back for a longer stay to enable us to see more of the New Forest

Great main site

This is a lovely main site in the heart of the forest. As such the entrance road is narrow (less of a problem than the what seemed to be very high ramps.) Beautiful surroundings. Apart from the ponies, cows & donkeys on the heath outside the entrance gate, saw a herd of 25 deer on morning at 0830! Have been going to new forest for very long time & never seen a herd that big so close! Site is very busy (was school summer holidays) & seemed really crowded to us (we are used to CL sites) but despite that it was surprisingly quiet. All very well organised/regimented as expected, with welcoming wardens who accomodated us even though we arrived a day early! Thank you! Flowers beautiful. Weds fish n chips great, yes bit pricey but it's a holiday! Didn't have to wait as was first to put order in, took pup for quick walk then collected on way back! Despite our preference for CL sites we will be back as location really can't be beaten!

Highly recommended

First site visited as a new member of caravan club. Very impressed. Very friendly, helpful warden. Children loved cycling and scooting on the site and the fact the ponies congregated just outside the site. Easy walk into village and to catch train from Brockenhurst (we went to Bournemouth to see the annual air festival). Last couple of miles of approach is not straightforward so make sure you follow the instructions given (they are very good). Toilet/shower facilities good and well kept. Excellent for families.

A good base for coast and countryside

Visited this site many times in past thirty years but this is the first time we have visited mid summer. We have to say we prefer visiting in the spring and autumn as there is a much wider choice of pitches and you don't feel so crammed in. I have to say though, although nearly full or full on most days, whilst we were there for the two weeks, it was surprisingly quiet on site apart from the rather annoying morning mowing of grass as soon as a nearby pitch became vacant. Just a nuisance when you have just put the washing on line or sitting out to relax- I know it has to be done but it sometimes seemed a bit obsessive. The wardens are super efficient and the toilet block kept immaculate. You can walk into Brockenhurst across the Heath and enjoy good pub food at The Snake Catcher, fabulous cakes at the bakery in the High Street or a very good lunch or coffee at The Terrace as well as many other great eateries . Further afield we love a trip into Lymington on a Saturday and to visit the market. There are plenty of walks and cycle rides from the site and on a Wednesday we enjoy freshly cooked fish and chips at the site, though get there when the Brown's van arrives at 6pm if you don't like to queue. All in all a great site for a mix of coast and countryside. We will return in the autumn and we now see the site is open until January.

Nice enough considering it’s the Summer Holidays

Site nice and clean with a good variety of pitches. Wardens are lovely and very friendly. Unfortunately it has been pretty much full for the 2 weeks we have been here with lots of children having fun (bikes etc) but it is the summer holidays so i guess that’s to be expected. Toilet block is lovely and new but water pressure is poor in showers. Location is fabulous - right in the middle of the New Forest. Browns Fish & Chip van visits on a Wednesday but don’t bother - they are very expensive and seem to run out if everything! We waited over an hour for ours as you queue first (30mins) and then they cook exactly what you’ve ordered! (If they have anything left which is highly doubtful) which took another 30mins - even then they weren’t very good. Unfortunately no other food offerings (like pizza). It’s a 30 minute walk to Brockenhurst where the nearest pub is so site is only really ok if you cook every night (which isn’t my idea of a holiday). Would we come back?... Maybe. Not our favourite site by any stretch.

Lovely clean site

Stayed for one night before my nephews wedding and thought it was a lovely clean site well kept. The wardens were extremely friendly and helpful, marking pitches on a map that were currently free and in a sunny position - saved having to drive round site a few times. On leaving they had a problem with a broken down caravan on a bend , they were helping sort this out but kept in radio contact with staff on site so we could be told when it was safe to leave.

CAULKHEAD

Fantastic site, ruined by the fact it turns into giant Velodrome, kids cycling all over the place and at speed, they race in between pitches, they race around the toilet block. The wardens do not give a dam, they will not bother to up hold the Rules. ITs about time that the Rules where issued on the back of your receipt as a reminder to members..
