Just arrived back after a 2 week stay at Back Knowl. It is a large site and while we were there pretty much full most nights, everywhere was clean and while at times some of the bands where clearly missing, the majority of people were adhering to latest COVID policy. We didn’t think the upkeep of the site was any noisier than any other site we have stayed on, we thought it was peaceful and relaxing, also everyone has the right (providing club rules are followed) to stay on sites in whatever unit they want: be it old, new, small or large. The site is perfect to explore the new forest by foot or bike and there’s a flat 4 mile ‘ish’ return walk into Brockenhurst, which is a nice village. It’s not far to drive to Lyndhurst, Lymington, Beaulieu/Bucklers Hard, or drive slightly further to visit the coast and quays - Milford on Sea, Mudeford, Christchurch. We had a great holiday. Oh, and any dog owners like us, do please pick up on the dog area, it isn’t up to the wardens to pick up after our dogs, and no one should put them in a situation where they have to close the small dog area for 24 hrs (it happened during our stay), because of the small minority who think they shouldn’t pick up.
Disappointing stay
Recently stayed here and left early due to the lack of peace and quiet and the site resembling a commercial vehicle park, never have we seen so many motorhomes continually driving by looking for a pitch and this combined with the continual use of tractors , grass cutting equipment etc we couldn’t cope with the noise! Surely it’s time the Club invested in electric vehicles by now? Seen them on many other sites around the country, good for the environment and for the peace of your guests. The final straw that made our decision to leave was when a huge motorhome, ( so large that it had to put it’s front wheels on the grass as the back end was overhanging the pitch!) The size of a single decker coach ! Totally blocked our view and the light and who honestly wants to sit and relax with something like this in your line of vision ? Have stayed at this site a few times over the years but sadly would never come back.
Such a lovely site
I've stayed at Black Knowl 3 times in 3 weeks! I much prefer it to the Centenary Club site, due to being smaller, nicely laid out, and good access to walks from the site gates. It's a 2 mile, 35 minute walk into Brockenhurst where you can visit cafes, Tesco Express, butcher, baker, or the lovely Forest Park Hotel. I had a very enjoyable lunch in their newly laid out formal gardens, drinking Pimms and having water brought for my dogs, whilst sitting under a big parasol.
The wood fired pizza wagon that comes to site on a Saturday (1730-1930) is fabulous! Really tasty and around £8.50 for a 10" pizza.
The small downside is the tiny dog toileting enclosure, but if your dogs are fine offlead around the ponies, then it's no trouble to walk out of the gates to let them sniff and run. Very popular area for cyclists, with mapped and signposted gravel cycle routes.
Perfect hub for exploring the New Forest
A lovely site, well laid out and sizeable pitches. The toilet block is relatively new and has good facilities - even during extra cleaning times, the wardens open alternative toilets.
A fish and chip van visits during the week and was delicious!
This really is the perfectly located site to explore the New Forest from - it is about a 35 minute walk into Brockenhurst across on a well trodden foot path where you will definitely see plenty of ponies. Lots of nice pubs and a couple of small shops in Brockenhurst.
We walked to Lyndhurst and back and even took a day trip to Poole via train (30 mins from Brockenhurst).
Highly recommend and I think this will become our go-to site!
Really love this site
Really love the site, full but peaceful site, really well kept, but lots of character, and straight into the forest for walks and cycles, or a pub meal
1st trip out for 9 months
This was our 1st trip out since 2020. We were a little apprehensive, we need not have been.
This was our 1st visit to Black Knowle.
The site was wonderful, the wardens were great from start (the queue the book in, in the approach lane) to the time we reluctantly left. The site is in a great location, with great walks and local wildlife is wonderful.
The site is clean and beautifully landscaped.
The covid precautions were excellent and all visitors respected both those and everybody else.
The directions and arrival times are very important please stick to the requirements.
We will be returning
Really Friendly Wardens
My wife and I feel we must express our genuine thanks to Tim and his team for the professional and friendly manner with which they manage the Black Knowl site. Tim was organising the queue when we arrived along with the Covid paper work and everything went so smoothly with a very friendly welcome to boot in spite of having his work cut out as many vans arrived together. Although we did not have the need to solicit help from any of the wardens during our stay they always had a friendly greeting whenever we met thus making a good site into a great one. Thank you wardens for making our stay so pleasant.

Lovely secluded campsite
Lovely setting and great facilities. Direct access to forest tracks and the walk to Brockenhurst takes about 50 minutes. Great site for walkers and cyclists. The visiting fish and chip van on a Wednesday is excellent and I also recommend The Buttery in Brockenhurst for coffee and snacks / meals. The site has been almost full on both my visits but the layout makes it feel spacious. The site wardens are friendly and helpful and keep the site immaculate,

Excellent location, very friendly and helpful wardens.
Perfect for cycling and walking around the new forest, you practically fall out of bed straight onto some great walking/cycling trails. Great to see ponies, deer, cattle and even pigs just milling around. Wardens were very friendly and helpful, even through all the difficulties Covid-19 throws at them.
Great to be back at Black Knowl
Just had a quality time last week! We try to stay at least twice pa and were pleased to manage a pitch in these busy times. The weather was kind, the Wardens were As helpful/hardworking as ever ........ with extra work of sanitizing, which was spot on! The site was so well maintained and of course is situated in an outstanding area, for walking, cycling and shops nearby at Brockenhurst.
See you ASAP
Many thanks
