Short break with friends

This is a well run, peaceful site with very friendly, helpful wardens who were easy to chat and laugh with. Facilities were immaculate and well placed. We had a lovely, relaxing couple of days with friends enjoying the walk to Brockenurst, encountering the ponies and rounding it all off with a couple of bbq’s. We didn’t take advantage of the food vans but certainly would have if we’d stayed longer. All in all a very positive experience.

"Warning"

Have been a Caravan Club member for 30 years, we have visited the Black Knowl site many times. However since the site and toilet block were upgraded together with many more 'serviced' pitches being added; please be aware that the new hedge row between pitches 94 to 101 and 112 to 117 have 1.5m gaps clearly marked by timber posts, that allow pedestrians going to and from the toilet block, dog walkers and yes adult cyclists! to cut through your pitch. What happened to the good mannered caravaners who respected the privacy of their fellow campers pitches. Come on Caravan Club you must realise the gaps so clearly indicated in the hedge rows are an open invitation to encourage 'pathways' across pitches.

Second Visit This Year

Black Knowl is our favourite site we usually visit the the site twice a year 3 weeks in late June and a further 3 weeks in September, this tear we decided to visit the site for an additional 2 weeks in May as well as are usual visits in June and September.. We have just returned from a 3 week break at Black Knowl as always the wardens Jenny and Peter greeted us with a smile they are an asset to the club, nothing is too much trouble for them, they are always busy all day long and the site and facilities are maintained to a very high standard. Hope to return in September for another 3weeks.

Arrivals

Lovely site, everything clean and tidy. Arrival process efficient and a friendly and informative welcome from wardens, only spoilt by a rather rude elderly gent shouting at us from his car while we were waiting behind other caravans “what part of one o clock do you not understand” we were 20min early due to traffic not being as busy as anticipated. Some people just can’t help themselves.

Wonderful stay at Black Knowl.

Recently returned from from a 12 night stay at Black Knowl. Hadn't visited since the Club purchased the site and built the new toilet block. It was just as good as we remembered. Beautiful location, with lovely, helpful and friendly wardens who worked hard to keep the site, toilet block etc immaculate. Really liked the 'no mow' bankings. Took full advantage of the visiting Food Vans. It was far too hot to cook in the caravan! The shady forest walks were lovely and nearby towns of Lymington and Lyndhurst a pleasure to visit. We enjoyed a visit to Hengistbury Head and went across to the Isle of Wight as foot passengers from Lymington for the day. A lovely holiday. Many thanks to the Wardens.

Third visit this year

This was our third visit in 2022 and we will definitely be making a date to return as soon as we have time. While the campers lazed around in a mini heatwave the team were hard at work keeping everything spotless while still finding the time for a quick chat or to answer and questions. It was also lovely to receive a warm welcome on checking in, it really does set a visit off on the right note. Very good to see some of the margins round the pitches left long for wildlife, not that the people who dumped their towing trailer right in the middle of the wild area could have cared less. Given that they also parked their Motorhome 2m from the peg and dove their buggy across pitches and grass rather than use the road they weren’t likely to win considerate campers log the month. The wardens do a great job of keeping everything running smoothly by dealing with issues sensitively but can’t keep their eyes on everything all the time.

Great place to stay

First time we have stayed at this site. It was spotless. Toilet block was great and modern. Site pitches were well spaced out. The map for directions to the site on the website is not the best of drawings so best looked up on Google streetview. Easy road to drive down with no issues. Great place to stay.

Can’t wait to return in September

My new dog Megan and I were made very welcome by Peter and Jenny and of course their lovely dog Spud . It was a refreshing change to see in no mow May the grass was not constantly mowed all the time and when it was to a decent length that allowed the buttercups and daisies soon flower again . This is the New Forest an area of outstanding beauty and richly deserves such consideration. Well done Peter for having courage to do it .I for one welcomed it and I know I wasn’t the only one . Just think how much fuel and expense this must have saved the club I and Megan can’t wait to come back in September

Very Disappointing

We have stayed at Black Knowl many times and have always enjoyed our time there but unfortunately this visit was very different. The facilities as usual were spotless and the wardens were friendly and helpful but the actual site was very disappointing. The hard standing pitches all have plenty of room but as there were none available we had to go on grass. The grass on the outer edge was very long so we decided to find a pitch in the middle which was a big mistake. We eventually found one which was crammed between two other pitches where the people had decided to extend all their belongings out on either side, blow up sofas and chairs, etc! This was not an isolated case, as we looked around we could see similar things wherever we looked. There seemed to be no identifiable layout and people were just setting their stuff out anywhere they pleased. It felt disorganised, crammed and noisy which was not what we wanted. We might have stayed and searched for a hard standing the next morning as had been suggested, but after we had paid for a week we were told there was no hot water and they did not know when it would be back! This was the final straw so we obtained a refund and went to stay on the Centenary site which was everything we had expected. The club needs to recognise that caravans and cars have got much bigger and think seriously about having fewer grass pitches which are clearly marked. Black Knowl is much more expensive now and it is just not worth it. Needless to say, we shall not booking there again unless there are positive changes.

Five ticks as usual

Yet again a great stay on this site. The new wardens (managers) do a fantastic job . As always who could ask for more lovely location. Be warned though it is starting to get expensive to stay here. Will be back in the autumn when prices reduce.
