Autumn at it's best
Black Knowl is fantastic in the Forest at this time for all the seasonal colours. The site was full as usual, but at this time of year the grass pitches are not used for obvious reasons. This is my third visit, and as usual there are high standards of cleanliness in the facilities and the team running the site are always extremely helpful and friendly.
The entrance off the main road is kept shut with a gate at this time of year due to rutting deer apparently. This means that the site is the only one open, and the Forestry Commission site aound the corner is closed for the season. So the area is peaceful and quiet with the only noise you'll hear overnight being the sound of owls hooting and the occasional pony in the distance.
It's an easy walk into Brockenhurst for supplies, and plenty of well looked after cycle and walking paths to follow. In fact most of the people you see are cycling or walking dogs.
When driving to the site, definitely follow the instructions provided so that you avoid the narrow streets of Brockenhurst and the ford. And the last part off the main road and down to the site can be a bit on the bumpy side, so keep an eye out for the speed humps. And finally you should ensure you don't arrive early as the final stretch of road is too narrow for vehicles to be parked up waiting to get in.
