Berwick was the first site we used since joining the cc, and I am glad to say that it was a very enjoyable stay. Shower blocks were clean and warm, grounds well kept, and wardens friendly.
Great views, and although we were beside the railway track it was a quiet site, the trains didn't disturb us at all.
Nothing for the kids, but it is a small site so maybe understandable. There is an area of rough grass land at the entrance, for dog walking, please be fastidious about cleaning up after your dog as we don't want to upset the rugby club who's pitch is adjacent.
Only slight criticism is that the road is fairly narrow which makes manoeuvring a wee bit tricky, but maybe that's just with me being a newbie.
Nice area with lots to explore and we look forward to returning soon.
Perfect for Northumberland
We stayed for 6 nights. Was a bit worried by the train noise when realised we were probably as close as you could get to the railway line (couldn't see it through the trees). However it never really bothered us so don't let it put you off.
Site had the usual clean shower block (although common with many others there's always a lack of hooks and always find the cubicles quite small). We enjoyed the walk into Berwick and found the seafood excellant.
Only a 45 minute train journey to Edinburgh but need to get advance tickets as it's pricey on the day. Not all pitches have a see view and as is often the case with the caravan club the proportion of tarmac and hardstanding to grass makes it seem like a carpark in places. It's well positioned though for a great Northumberland/Borders stay. The beach at Spittal looked like it would be great for young kids and the area is very unspoilt.
Excellent site
Wardens were very helpful, friendly and patient with us being fairly new to caravanning. Facilities were both excellent and spotlessly clean. Some train noise but unavoidable and soon able to ignore it. will definitely use this site again. Even won the raffle! Many thanks to the wardens - what a great team!
Great base and views
First time at site, got a pitch with fantastic views, spent an evening watching Dolphins at the mouth of the Tweed. Campsite is on a hill and is quite tight, listen to the warden, and park outside the toilet block then walk round and select your pitch, as manoeuvring could be challenging. Toilets were immaculate . The site is great for exploring , we went to Holy Island and Bamburgh. Not so great for families , as I didn't notice any play area for kids and no dog walking facilities. Train noise wasn't bad even though the site was next to the east coast main line. Really nice site
Berwick Seaview
When we arrived there was only one pitch left, right at the end of a row and tucked away with no views. More importantly if we hadn't had the motor mover it would have been impossible to access the pitch. Luckily after a few days someone on one of the prime pitches left and we moved to somewhere with a much nicer view.
The wardens are very helpful and the facilities are up to the usual standard, however the site only has one toilet block, so 5 male and 5 female showers for a 90 outfit site, which I think isn't enough, particularly given the prices charged for the site.
As others have said it's fairly easy to get into Berwick, and the beaches and walking along the coast is fantastic. I can also recommend the seafood from the factory outlet on Dock Road, near the lifeboat station.
I'd certainly revisit the area, but would probably opt for a CL next time in preference to this site.
Great Site
We have just spent an excellent 3 nights at this site. The viws from most of the pitches are excellent overlooking the North Sea and Berwick. The facilities are spotless and the wardens very friendly. The site is in an excellent location 25 mins walk from Berwick and there is plenty of other things to do in the area such as visite Bambourogh Castle Lindisfarne, Seahouses etc. All in all an excellent site in an excellent location one small criticism is that due to the proximity of teh railway line train noise can be heard but it isn't too intrusive.
Pleasant Campsite with great views
We stayed here on the 7th, 8th and 9th August, starting with the campsite. The staff were excellent, the facilities were spotless, the pitches however were a bit in the small side and the East Coast mainline runs right next to the camp, so you will hear trains every 30 mins.
Next the surroundings, you are about a 10 minute walk from Spittal beach, which is dog friendly and child friendly, quite deserted and sandy. There was the Spittal festival on that weekend as well. The walk into Berwick on Tweed is about 30 mins, worth a walk on the walls, but the town is a bit tired.
So overall not a bad site at all hence the 4 star rating.
Summer Sun!
Just returned after another visit to this site. It's clean and well located lots to do locally and on the border of Scotland. A big thank you to dougie the warden for helping move my caravan!! We will be back soon. Stunning views from most pitches and great for families. 10 mins walk to the beach. A must for all !!!
Great Views
Really pleasant site, with great views from most of the pitches. Some pitches are on the short side for longer 'vans and the train line is a nuisance, though didn't disturb us .... the 'shouty' family next door were more intrusive! Staff are pleasant and the site is immaculate. Recommended.
Very well maintained site
Stayed at this recently for 4 nights. This is a lovely and very well maintained. The toilet and shower block was very clean and looked like it had been recently updated.
Good base for visiting all the historic sites around Northumberland.
Only negative is that the Caravan Club really need to give consideration to installing more washer and affordable dryers on their sites!! We stay at non-club sites that have much more washers and dryers and they're cheaper to use!
Overall Assessment: We really liked this site and will definitely be going back.
