A very nice site

This is a lovely site in the grounds of a mansion, not there now, but the terracing and planting is. Although it rained very hard and the power went off we enjoyed our short stay. The wardens are first class and helpful. It's very clean and tidy. There is so much to do in the area. Battle town is just a few miles and the south coast is not far. Hastings, Rye, Camber Sands - just so many great resorts. You could spend a week here and not have time to see all the area has to offer. A great site!

Another Great Site

I had two very enjoyable nights recently at this site and found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The only reason I did not give it a 100% rating was the lack of WiFi, TV points and it appeared to me that the personal cubicles and toilets in the toilet block were smaller than I had experienced at other sites.

Great Site

Recent stay for 5 nights. Excellent site no complaints at all. Good for couples and families alike. Numerous different pitch locations to suit all tastes. Very clean toilet block. Easy access to several National Trust properties.

Small skirmish with the elements

We stayed at this site for a week in mid July. We were pitched on a grass site on "the terrace" and would recommend this location, although there are lots of good places, both sunny and shaded. It is best to park up and walk the site when you arrive as there are lots of secluded cul de sacs and if they are already occupied you will have difficulty getting out. Although it was July it got very windy and on one day very wet, however the ground was well drained so it was not a problem. We would like to try the "stables" next time, a lovely sheltered walled area with lots of character. As mentioned in other reviews there is a walk to a local village with an "everything" shop, farm shop and pub that does specials at £5. The walk takes about 30 min. A visit to Battle Abbey is worth the effort on a nice day (mostly outdoors) make sure you get the audio guide as it really makes the tour worthwhile and brings it to life. Make sure your handbrake is in good order when you exit as the road is a bit tricky. Luckily is is not very busy. Overall it rates in the top ten of sites we have visited in our 4 years of caravanning.

Just the Job !

Stayed 14th/21st July 15 -- Nice, open, quiet site. Excellent facilities, always spotless. As others have stated the subsoil seems to be more like hardcore and very difficult to peg down, so rock pins essential. Screw down don't seem to hold and simply pull out. That aside, we enjoyed a pleasant stay and found the location brilliant for site seeing and visits to nearby castles and parks.

Beautiful Site

We stayed here for 3 nights from the 17th of July . Originally, when trying to book on line there were no awning pitches available, so phoned the site and was able to book one. Arrived and as with others was able to walk round the site and select our grass pitch. Only issue I had that on my particular pitch I was unable to secure two of my rock awning pegs as the ground underneath appeared to be solid rock! Site is excellent for young children, probably not teenagers. Has a small dog walk which leads onto a public footpath and after about a mile and a quarter arrives in the nearby village and local pub. Path is suitable for bykes. On Friday's the pub has ANY meal for a fiver which we took advantage of. Very good value and nice pub. Facilities on site very good, site wardens very good, plenty of nearby local attractions and very Beautiful site set in the gardens of an old estate.

A Nice Quiet site

We stayed for four nights from the 16/7/15 when we arrived we were given three pitches to choose from, and told to park up and walk to see which pitch we would like, normally you are allowed to drive round and choose, when we tried booking our pitch online ,no awning pitches were available, so we booked a none awning pitch, walking round we found several awning pitches free, and we were given three of which two were not suitable for the size of the caravan, so picked the last one in a small bay area, containing a seasonal caravan, parked crossways, when we returned to reception, another couple had six pitches to choose from, they also found this idea strange, it gave you the impression that pitches were being held for regulars for the weekend, my gripe is the web site should be up to date with what's booked or not, we were unable to use our awning, when clearly awning pitches were empty. Its a shame as its a lovely site, beautiful old trees, lovely and clean, toilet blocks a bit of a trek, for us, the pitches seem to be all over the place, making parking in the correct place quite awkward, Other sites, and we have stayed on many you choose you pitch for your requirements.

Disappointed

We booked into here for our return from France and as a stopover for 2 nights before moving on. Like a previous reviewer we got to the site and there were 5 plots left which were across different parts of this "complicated" site. Usually of course we drive around and choose a pitch, then inform the staff of our choice, here..... we were told to park up, walk round and find a pitch, then report back and then set down. We saw one which would have done but another member decided not to follow instructions and nabbed the pitch we would have preferred. The gentleman was, lets say of the more mature in years, which seemed to be a theme of this site. We found a pitch and set up in no time and cooked a meal. I didn't connected the electric hook up that evening as I couldn't find where to connect it, having finally found the hook up post....another had already plugged into the connection for our pitch. I also had to use all of the length of my 25 meters of cable to even reach the hook up stand. Then yet another rude caravanner tugged my lead tight and almost disconnected it from my campervan, making some lame excuse his dog chews cables...it really was because I was running my cable across his pitch(something that you had to do because of the pitch location). I found it so sad that there was a very poor attitude among fellow caravanners and campervan users on this site and not one I have experience before. We only had 3 people speak to us all weekend (we even sat outside and spoke to them but we were ignored) ....sadly this would have given us a poor reflection of the UK if we were overseas visitors and we had just returned from France. We won't be visiting this site again as there are more welcoming ones on the network.
