Most unusual site

This is possibly the most difficult site in the network to get a reservation since it is always full. This is partially because it is quite a small site with the majority of pitches being for motorhomes. The site is really a big car-park broken up by patches of grass. The attraction is the location which is right on the waterside on the redeveloped Docks. There are many reviews of the site but I have not seen any which mention that as long as you have a river fishing license you can fish for free on the dockside and there are lots of fish both sea fish and coarse varieties since the water is brackish. Perhaps I was a little cruel calling the site a car park but anyway the facilities were immaculate during our visit. Can be a little noisy if you park alongside the back hedge but considering it's location this is to be expected. All in all one of our favourite sites.

Back Again

We were lucky enough to pitch again at Baltic Wharf for a few days this summer. The visit was mostly to see the family, the ferry to Broad Quay and the number 9 bus proved very useful (and would also be for others wanting to explore the Whiteladies Road specialist shops, cafes and the excellent Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.) Try a bit of "Banksy" spotting en route! On the hottest day of the year so far we also decided to visit Brandon Hill and Cabots Tower (Bristol's answer to Scafell Pike, be prepared for a steep climb!) Wonderful views at the top and surprising water gardens in some much needed shade. There is always something new to explore in this lovely city.

Oh, I forgot Shaun the Sheep, right outside the Baltic Wharf gates and many more of him to find on the special charity trail!

Ideal Location

This site is ideal for exploring Bristol. Tour buses stop right outside the front gate and ferries outside the back gate. A pub is right along side the site, you can sit with your drink and watch the boats go by. The SS Great Britain is just a short walk along the quay, well worth the £14 (look out for discount vouchers). This site is a lovely quiet haven in the middle of a busy city.

Harbour Heaven

We booked this site to visit the Balloon Fiesta and expected little from the little site - how wrong we were! Greeted by possibly the best wardens ever our non-awning pitch was perfect. And through the 'Magic Gate' things got even better. Bristol was a complete surprise - the harbour, the centre, the cathedral, the markets, the pubs and the hustle & bustle all a refreshing change for us country folk! I should really have said it was rubbish, so that there were always vacancies for when we return!!!!

Wonderful haven.

We have called to this site a number of times and never been disappointed. However on our visit last week, my daughter received a very rude comment from an elderly motorhome person, who was very intolerant of our two small dogs, suggesting they had fouled on site. Infact they had not; they use the river side walk and we pick-up any mess.

When and why

Having had another enjoyable stay at Baltic I just wonder when the axe will fall. I am sure there is an answer. Hopefully

Great location makes up for shortcomings

On my second visit to Baltic Wharf, my conclusion remains as before; namely that this is a site of two extremes. One: a cramped, claustrophobic, ageing site shoe-horned into a small piece of prime urban real estate. The other: go through the gate at the top of the site and you emerge into a whole different world. The busy, captivating, floating harbour is before you and across the bustling water the gentrified and colourful houses appear to cling to the hillside and clamber their way up to Clifton, Cabot’s tower and the suspension bridge at the top. Catch the ferry into the city centre, or take the harbour side walk past the SS Great Britain and the M Shed instead; it does not take long and there is so much to take in. Bristol has much to offer in the Cathedral, Park Street, St Mary Redcliffe church, the museums, the Hippodrome theatre, lovely shops and much more. I experienced more of the food this time too. The Cottage Inn, next door, is simple pub fayre but adequate for the odd meal (and good Butcombe Brewery ale for those into that). The Olive Shed – about 15 minutes walk by the M Shed - is excellent Tapas if you like that kind of thing but a tad pricey if you want to leave replete. The Bordeaux Quay at the Waterfront was excellent, but I would avoid MacKenzies in the same row; this was a true disaster. The Arnolfini is a great place for an outdoor drink as well as a place to visit. There is noise here, from the road, the pub, the rowing and sailing club, the harbour itself and more. I relish this kind of hubbub, but some may be irritated by it. It is a city centre site. The wardens were absolutely lovely, probably the loveliest I have met, and they made very well of a most difficult site. Only 6 pitches are defined with grass between; for the rest I found that pitch discipline was non-existent and even worse than on my last visit. Many caravan owners parked their car on the nearside; I thought they were supposed to be on the offside but, even if my assumption is wrong, there were some shocking cases where owner’s cars were only about one metre from neighbouring motorhomes (I confirmed ownerships) yet a 3 to 4 metre gap existed between the owner’s caravan door and their car – with tables, chairs and BBQs being spread liberally in between. Surely that can’t be right. It is fortunate for these people that their neighbours were apparently indifferent to this abuse. Such a situation makes me feel very uncomfortable and had I been subjected to this I would have felt justified in lodging a complaint with the warden. If all cars had been on the offside then owners would have their own car on top of them, instead of offending others, and there would be no issue. It shows a remarkable lack of respect for others. Notwithstanding these shortcomings, this place is all about the location and everything about that simply renders irrelevant the confined nature of the site itself and the inability of many members to understand basic pitch etiquette.

Nice to be greeted by a smiling face

Great to be at Baltic wharf again, for a while we stopped coming due to the miserable and obnoxious female warden that used to be here, now all has changed, smiling faces in reception, wardens are first class, spotless site and fabulous access to Bristol centre, great pub next door and of course the great waterside location.

Great city center site

lovely site very clean facilities and friendly staff, some noise from city and harbour side at night. Helicopters on several night we were there very loud, great news that it can stay open hope the city council can see what a great tourist attaction this site is. As awning user I wish members would only book awning pitches if they intend to use one, I for one would be happy to pay a little extra to ensure I get an awning pitch - here is an idea for the club charge say 50p more for awning pitches and say 25p less for non-awning pitches! Still a great site and have booked to return.

In a great spot, hidden away from hustle and bustle

The location is great..hard to believe you're in a city yet just through the back gate, you can walk or get the ferry into the city centre. Showers, loos etc all very clean. The pub next door does lovely food and there is one of the Shaun the Sheep statues just outside the back gate!
