Sadly not a site for us

There were very few pitches available when we arrived here at 1430hrs. We had to settle for a pitch in the furthest corner of the site, right next to the main road. It was about the most level pitch of the few left. The pitch is totally covered by trees. This became a real problem. The unbelievable amount of seeds, leaves and twigs that covered our van and car was beyond belief. There was so much that it often sounded like it was raining from inside of our van. Of course we understand that this is something you have to accept if you stay on a site that has lots of foliage, but having got home and spent 4 hours cleaning the mess off my van and car, its not something we wish to repeat. Additionally, access to this particular pitch was very awkward, two trees and the hook up post made it harder than it needed to be to reverse in. Yes, the toilets were impeccably clean and the water/waste areas were kept tidy at all times. Its a well run site that would suit plenty but certainly not us.

Very clean and peaceful site

Lovely site and very clean. Wardens are always on hand, very polite and friendly. The site is in between Balbirnie Park and the town Markinch. The park is great if you have a dog and is very safe and large (mine loved zooming about) The local shops are a 10min walk from the site and carry a wide range of goods, the locals are all friendly too. On the right side of the caravan park there are some residential buildings and you are close to the main road, so depending on where your pitch is you can hear the cars passing on the main road. Don't follow the GPS guidance to the entrance of the park (I use Google maps) as this takes you to a private road, you take the entrance to Balbirnie House then turn right. I can't say if this is good for families as we are just a couple with a dog.

Outstanding Wardens and lovely peaceful site

We have just returned from Balbirnie Park and wow we were impressed. The wardens, Jo and Craig, were the best we have ever come across and work really hard to maintain a spotless site, even putting little personal touches to the site such as solar lights in the bushes which look lovely in the evenings. The site itself is on the edge of the country park which is also lovely and great to walk the dog in an evening. Pitches are in little wooded glades and as some people have already mentioned, levelling blocks would be useful albeit we didn't need them for our pitch. The toilet block was immaculate and bear in mind that these two lovely people are the only wardens on site so do it all themselves and yet remain happy and friendly. Jo provided us with tips as to places to go which were worth it, namely Culross and small coastal villages. We also travelled up to Abroath to do the Cliffs walk. St Andrews is also nearby and Tentsmuir nature reserve and beach which is well worth a visit. Just read a review from last week criticising the wardens for arriving early and them being rude to them - this really would not have been the case as we truly haven't come across better wardens on any club site. An absolute gem and also cheaper than the majority of other sites we have stayed on within the UK.

Peaceful & Quirky

Stayed in our 2 berth caravan recently on the site which is clean & tidy with little quirky bird feeders & plants etc, But take note you definitely need levelling blocks as most pitches not even. We found a great walking website which was mentioned in the information hut. The Markinch Heritage group this had lots of information on the towns history & brilliant walks nearby. A little cafe called Beans ( a short stroll) from the site was welcoming after our walks & if you show your CAMC site card you get a discount. We had a great time in Balbirnie Park club site & surrounding area but the pitches were just not great for us.

Check your arrival time.. Or Else!

As instructed in handbook I did not use Sat Nav to find this site - meaning I arrived at 12.50 - 10 minutes early. This did not please the lady warden. I said no panic I will happily wait until 13.00. This was not acceptable. I was INSTRUCTED to enter the site, drive round the one way system and EXIT the site to wait away OFF SITE until 13.00 precisely. ( Observing the 5 MPH limit - this took until 12.55, but I was duly sent off site only to return at 13.00). To say that my reception at 13.00 was cool would be an understatement - not the best start to a stay after a long hard drive at what is after all a Club Site run for members. Rules are rules and I did arrive early - I was happy to wait - NO - heaven help if you dare arrive here a few minutes early - You have been warned - so check you watch! Bye the way there is a sign in the Gents Toilet warning about the dire consequences of arriving early here - not quite sure how this helps as you can only access the toilet after you have arrived...? There are better sites on the network but the surrounding area especially the East Neuk makes up for it.

Comment from the Club

We are sorry you've been disappointed with your recent arrival experience and not being able to wait at the site or check in early on this occasion. Arrival times have become an increasingly emotive issue and we know it causes mixed feeling if we allow one or two guests to check in early or to sit and wait onsite, but then ask other arrivals to turn around and come back later. Due to the varying nature and layout of access roads across the network, it isn't always safe or possible for members to arrive and wait onsite or queue on these roads. If you have been welcomed to arrive early previously at another location, we kindly ask that current advice provided by our site teams is followed. We hope you'll be able to continue to enjoy future bookings and will support this change going forward by making suitable adjustments to your journey plans.

Fabulous Weekend Stay!

My wife, dog and I stayed for the Easter weekend. We had an absolute fabulous time, the staff couldn't do enough to make our stay wonderful and stress free. The site was well maintained and clean. The facilities were spotless. I highly recommend this campsite for families, couples and dog walkers, as there is wonderful walks. The shops are in walking distance, so you don't need a vehicle. We shall return for another stay in the future.

Great location for surrounding areas

Like some have already stated, much of the site is overlooked by a housing estate, but we found it to be quiet enough. A good location for the surrounding areas, especially the Lomond hills and the town/village of Falkland (delightful wee place, free parking, dog friendly pubs/restaurants, historical) The facilities are pristine, only thing missing from the shower areas is a chair/seat for drying yourself off. The woodland/park area is quite extensive and ideal for dog walking. All in all good for a long weekend. Would return if in this neck of the woods again.

Such a great site nestled into a country park!

I absolutely love this site. I hadn't been until this year and have just spent two weeks and couldn't have chosen a better site to start the season. The site is nestled into the corner of a gorgeous country park which is fantastic for dog walking and has amazing area of rhododendrons and would be stunning in bloom. The location is very central with lots to explore in the area including many little fishing villages, St Andrews and Dunfermline nearby and also Edinburgh, Perth, Stirling, Dundee and even Glasgow in easy reach. The site itself is fantastic and quirky with lots of little sections on different terraces meaning even when busy, it won't feel it. There are lots of trees around the site meaning squirrels and birds are always in sight nearby and it's very peaceful. The shower block is spotless and very well looked after. Around the site there are lots of little additions that the Managers have thought of to give it it's own character. Jo and Craig are the most welcoming managers I've met and are clearly passionate about their site. Balbirnie Park will now definitely be my 'go to' in southern Scotland as I would love to see the site evolve through the season with the trees, bushes and plants all blooming. I can't wait to go back.

Best Site This Season - 2021

We discovered Balbirnie Park in Aygust and were very impressed so booked to return in September for a 3 night stay. Absolutely loved it (have reviewd that stay as well!) When we were looking to go away for a 2 night break in October, we decided to try Balbirnie again. So glad we did! The site is exceptional- all facilities spotless, shower/toilet block heated so no shivery showers. The site is so well maintained, I loved each pitch that we were on for each visit. Both a sunny spot in August and nestled in the trees in Sept and Oct. Absolutely beautiful. Lots of squirrel activity to keep my pup entertained watching from the windows of the motorhome as well! And lovely to go to sleep listening to the call of a resident owl Lively walks through the park and in surrounding countryside, and Markinch itself is a nice wee historic town to walk through. Good food available at the nearby Laurel Bank (dog friendly, and people friendly too!) Jo and Craig are fabulous - so friendly and welcoming. Also extremely helpful in every way, and it must be said extremely hard workers, they were busy maintaining the site throughout the day. We have told them that we will definitely be back next season! Thanks Jo and Craig!

A great site, just where we needed it

We stayed 5 nights, at the end of September 2021 and really rate the site. The only loss of peace and quiet was on Saturday night, from somewhere (off site) nearby. We will be back, at some point. If only it were nearer to home.
