Lovely stay as usual

We are regular users of this site with family nearby. We stayed for three weeks from June into July and left the van in store for five days before on our way north from France. The site was excellent as always with beautifully maintained facilities and lovely helpful wardens. The building site causes some noise but it is hardly a distraction and after all is only temporary.

Shame about the building site!

Unlike the previous reviewer we were on the main site not the grass paddock area, so very close to the building site.  Work starts around 7.15am and they seemed to finish about 5 usually.  Unfortunately, the week we stayed it was very noisy early and late hence the low mark for peace and quiet, one afternoon was awful, shouting and swearing!   I know this noise is temporary but it's a shame the housing is there at all as it was a lovely semi rural site.  We are regular visitors due to family nearby.

Ashridge Farm

We have used this site a few times due to its proximity to family.  Unusually this site has a paddock area outside the main barrier with about 8 pitches.  We always pick a pitch in here because it is sheltered and a huge sun trap.  The facilities are some of the best we have come across at a CC site.  Very powerful showers and spotlessly clean; not a common occurrence in my experience.  I'm also a big fan of IWM Duxford which is about 20 minutes away by car; a fantastic day out.  This year there is an adjacent building site but it is the opposite side of the site to the paddock so very little disturbance.

Small Tucked Away Well Kept Site

The site is located on the edge of Ashwell, quite a pretty small town. Access is fine if you follow directions though the streets are narrow in places so if you miss the last turn with a large outfit, it could be awkward.  A smallish site that is well kept by two very friendly and helpful wardens. Hard standings are generously sized and there are a number of grass pitches on an adjacent very slightly sloping area. Usual CC facilities are available.  Ashwell has three pubs, our favourite is the one near the large church the Bushel and Strike. Good food and large beer garden. Sometimes need to book a table in busy periods. Lovely streets with many very old buildings and the spring are worth viewing.  Outside the site entrance is a by-way in two directions named Ashwell Street. Arrow straight and almost traffic free, it goes for miles. Go left from the site gate for beautiful walks past fields of crops, the wheat in late summer is amazing.  Hitchin is a ten minute drive but IMO not a picturesque place.  There was a bit of noise disturbance from a large house-building site next to the site during our stay - the only reason for the 3-stars for peace and quiet. When that's finished, I expect it would be very quiet. A large caravan storage area is used frequently but it's not terribly noisy.

Very expensive

An immaculate well kept site, extremely neat and tidy, toilets and showers very clean. A little noisy due to constant traffic in and out from people whose caravans are stored on site. Only one negative, we thought it very expensive for what it was. It cost us £24 a night for 2 adults, which compared to other sites we have been to was double the price. Considering there was nothing else there we felt it was over priced.

April 2015

Discovered this site when the folk who look after my motor home (MG Caravans) moved out from Hertford to Royston. I live in central London so wanted a short drive to drop off my 'van. Picked purely on location what a gem this site turned out to be - spacious pitches, immaculate facilities and close to the pretty village of Ashwell. This is my second visit and even if I didn't need to access MG I'd come back here. Even the nearby building work doesn't detract from the tranquillity and overall beauty of the site.

Our stay 7-10 April 2015

What a terrific little site. The layout is great, very peaceful and the staff fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble for them even to the extent of assisting me with a collapsed towing hook. We had no trouble with the nearby building works. Location is very good with lots to do in the area. Would recommend it and will be going back again. One small point it would be helpful to have a sign at the turn off from the 505as Ai am sure you can easily go past it resulting in a drive down to the next roundabout. Well done caravan club and all the staff on site. Ray and Jean.

Easter weekend.

Stayed here over Easter and found it a lovely little site, the wardens are very friendly and helpful and the toilet block was always clean, if a little dated, there was some rusty pipework underneath the hand basin so maybe a refurbishment is in order here. The building work nearby had stopped for the Easter break so we were lucky, it was nice and peaceful. We really liked the area and will definitely visit again.

Enjoyable Easter Break

We three couples spent five nights over Easter. Not too much to add as it has been said already. However, we were on the grass pitches outside the barrier and (I guess being Easter) there was a regular flow of traffic to and from the large storage compound adjacent. That in itself was not a problem but the noise from the caravan washdown point close by became unreasonable - particularly as someone started a compressor with an engine for their power washer around 8.00 a.m. - how considerate. It would help if the Club introduced a curfew for this nuisance. Otherwise - all good.

lovely Easter weekend

We are new caravaners, only our 3rd trip out. We chose this site as we have family in the area, and the access from the A1. It really is a simple site to get to and yes, you need to follow the book's advice on access to the site as Ashwell is a very narrow, congested village. The facilities are good, very clean and tidy, and although the site was busy, no issues with the small number of toilets and showers. Didn't use the laundry but it looked well maintained. Everyone we met, including the wardens were very helpful and friendly. Had 2 meals in the 3 Tuns, both very nice. The country walks are excellent. Nothing really for children either on the site or locally. There was no building work whilst we were there. We will be back.
