Abbey Wood in winter.

Excellent site, you would never believe you were in London, you would think you were in the countryside, not sure were with parakeets in the trees. Wardens very helpful and the facilities were up to the normal CC high standard. Good bus links to Greenwich (180) and beyond, train station nearby. The only negative is that both the motorhome service point were on sloping ground, so your tanks cannot be drained fully, unfortunately a common problem on Caravan Club sites.

Exploring London for a week.

Fantastic site & location which we have just spent a week at to explore London. A week on site costs about the same as 1 night in a budget hotel. Use your caravan club voucher to get a 2 for 1 red rover ticket on Thames river cruises for a fabulous day on the river from Greenwich. The Emirates experience cable car over the Thames is awesome and a bargain. A note of caution about the train service, whilst we were there engineering work was being carried out on the weekends and a replacement bus service was in operation. DO NOT use it, it is painfully long and slow, use the 180 normal bus service which is much more direct. However when the trains are running normally it is a fantastic service and the quickest way to get about, plus with an oyster card cost effective. This is definitely on the list to revisit, the caravan club has delivered again in every aspect.

Excellent value for money

Recently spent three nights here to facilitate visit to Greenwich attractions. Although we only live 60 miles away it was cheaper to stay in our motorhome here than pay the train fare from home. We had two good days to see the sights. We used the buses from the site to Greenwich and were lucky enough to be able to use our bus passes.

great adventures

from this site you can visit great places in and around London. Take the train to Greenwich and all its sites (Naval museum, Cutty Sark, royal Observatory, and boat links to central London), we went to Hampton Court, Houses of Parliament, V&A museum, Covent Garden and lots more. Each time come back to excellent facilities and a quite site - easy road access near to A2.

Exploring London

This was our first visit to London in very many years and the first ever in our motorhome.  We used our sat nav and found the site easily. The staff were friendly and helpful and provided much useful local information as well as the usual information leaflets. We were surprised by the rural feel of the site and enjoyed the walk to Lessnes Abbey which is a few minutes away and provides a wonderful panorama of the city.  The site pitches are large and well spaced and all facilities are spotless and well maintained. Travel into London was not difficult and our trip has whetted our appetite for a return visit to continue sightseeing.

First visit but not the last

We stayed  nights over the February half term. At £121 it was excellent value for 2 adults and 2 children.  Great location too being only 30 mins from central London. The facilities were clean and tidy, wardens very pleasant and helpful.   I never had a queue for the showers or toilets even though only one block was in use.  As has been said, it's a short walk to Abbey Wood station and trains are every 10 minutes to Cannon Street or London Bridge. £12 for a travel card (£6 for kids) gets you unlimited travel to and around London by bus, tube, DLR and train. With a Family and Friends Railcard, it only cost us £20.40 for 2 adults and 2 children.  We had to leave after 9.30am but that was fine for us.  The kids enjoyed hoping on and off London buses all day too!!  There is a local bus service from near the railway station to a shopping complex at Twin Tumps Way, where there is a Morrisons, Aldi, Argos and other shops. I would recommend the bus as the walk isn't pleasant. We didn't use the overnight parking at the site but I think that's an option if you want to travel late to beat the traffic. Bearing in mind it's so close to a built up area, it has a fairly rural feel to the site. Getting a morning wake-up call from a woodpecker wasn't expected but gave us a welcome we didn't expect. First time we have been to Abbey Wood but I think we will definitely return.

February 2015

This is the 2nd time we have visited Abbey Wood during February half term (2014 and 2015). The location is perfect. There is lots to do even when the weather is rough. Within 5 mins we have walked to the station, trains leave every 15mins, and stop at; Woolwich Arsenal (Firepower Artillery Museum), Charlton (a short bus ride to O2 Arena), Greenwich (Cutty Sark, Maritime Museum, GMT etc) and London Bridge (all that central London has to offer.) Alternatively, a short walk to Lesnes Abbey is a rest from the hustle of the city. Abbey Wood is spotlessly clean, the staff are very helpful, and the site feels rural with woodpeckers, parakeets, owls and foxes.  The perfect holiday for all the family- something for everyone. We will be back!

Tranquil site

We booked this site at very short notice after a family bereavement as we had to help an ageing relative with funeral arrangements and the estate. It is an oasis of quiet and tranquility in SE London with excellent access from M25 via Thamesmead (dual carriage way all the way except last few miles). Everything clean and very helpful site wardens just what we required under stressful circumstances.

Great base for visit to London

We stayed here and used it as a base to travel into central London.  It was easy to travel in to visit the sites and attractions.  The campsite is a 5 min walk to the station.  (A previous reviewer mentioned that there is a hill, but it really is much more of a very gentle slope.). Rail travel was easy, with trains to Cannon Street every 20 min.  We purchased Oyster cards which allowed for unlimited travel around London for under £10 a day.   The campsite itself was peaceful and we were surprised to hear (and indeed see) a woodpecker making its new home in one of the trees.  There is a little road noise and there are a few overhead planes, but it is far from being a noisy location, and nothing you wouldn't expect from an urban area. There was plenty of hot water in the showers.  The blocks themselves were clean, but the showers themselves weren't quite up to the excellent standards we have seen in other Club sites (shower heads a bit dirty and leaky fittings).  This was the only negative in an otherwise great site.   We will certainly use the site again as a base for London visits.

excellent campsite perfect for London!

You will not be disappointed with this campsite!  Its in a perfect location to get into London! Its literally a 5 min walk to station with trains very frequently! And late night trains back! The facilities are spot on, previous reviews are all correct and everything is excellent! The members of staff were very nice and accommodating! The toddler room looked excellent and spot less! Will definitely be returning! It doesn't feel like you are in London,  very nice setting!
