Perfect week

We had a great week. The site was fantastic very peaceful and only 50 mins from Van to the city centre. Its location for exploring London is brilliant with the Abbey Wood train station only a 10 min walk away. We had a 7 day travel card for zones 1-4 that cost very little and worked. Make sure you set the correct start day when ordering these online from here http://visitorshop.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/london-travelcard/ The wardens work very hard to keep the site very clean and well attended. They also gave us excellent help and advice on arrival. If you are using the Dartford crossing on the M25 to travel there don't forget to pay in advance or within 24 hours of crossing, or you'll be penalised. You can't pay by cash at the crossing. https://www.gov.uk/pay-dartford-crossing-charge

Perfect

Danke

An Oasis

Having lived near London for 42 years, have never had the need to stay at a London site until recently at Abbey Wood for 6 nights. A really pleasant surprise in an area of south east London not known to us. An absolute oasis in an otherwise developing area. Crossrail link in progress at Abbey Wood station. (Check for replacement bus services at the weekend if you plan to stay). Otherwise the train link to Greenwich, London Bridge, the DLR and Londons West End easily accessible. Site facilities all good and really helpful wardens made for an enjoyable stay. Thank you.

Busy Visit

It was our 2nd visit to the sight and we decided to stay for 5 nights. Site is situated in a residential area which can be noisy in the evenings and late nights. However it's ideally situated to Abbeywood train station 5-10min walk with regular trains into London. Oyster card or travel card recommended if you doing the sights. Also Charring cross station is best if you want to be in centre. Staff were friendly and helpful and kept facilities spotless and clean. Journey to site was a bit stressful as we got caught in traffic on M25 which was really busy. Overall the Site is a good base for London and with good travel links. It is a popular site. However if you are putting an awning up, be mindful of visitors during the night, as foxes like to inspect if everything is in order, especially food.

Capital Location

Easily reached from M25 and the Dartford Crossing.  Frequent trains to centre of London are a five minute walk from the site. The site itself is all you'd expect from the Caravan Club - excellent!

Good site, train station closures extends journey time into the City

This is the fourth time we have stayed here and the high standard of the facilities and staff service continues. Because of Cross rail and other network rail improvements it meant that Abbey Wood Train Station was closed on both weekends we were there from 19th-29th March. This meant we had to catch the 180 bus to Woolwich Arsenal and then the DLR into the City or we could have used the replacement bus service but that would have meant even longer journeys. There was considerable noise overnight on the first Saturday also from the works. I guess that these closures will continue for some time so it is best to check before you go so you can make your plans accordingly. I found the travel information lacking and difficult to follow but there is rail staff at the station on weekdays to help.

Great London Trip

Just like others have said, you would not think you were in London when on site - you could be out in the country. Standards very high and great wardens - good security too. Abbey Wood seems to be slightly more prosperous than years ago but it's still not the sort of place for a stroll! The bus and train links are first rate - bus passes work as they should and we found the new visitors oyster card gave good prices and was extremely easy to use. A useful app was Citymapper which showed exactly how to get to where you wanted to go, which bus to catch and when the stop was etc. This app made bus travel very easy. This CC site is really a must for visiting London and we will keep coming back.

Birthday Holiday

We chose the site for the easy access into London and we found that this was the case. Access to both the Bus and Train was very easy but for me I found this to far as I have quite severe mobility problems. I found the public transport staff, especially at the stations to be very helpful. The idea of wild parrots in the trees was very different. The sit slopes a bit more than it says in the book but the pitches themselves are mostly level and the staff very helpful. Overall we had a good but exhausting week.

A weekend at Abbey Wood

Arriving after a rather stressful Friday afternoon drive we were soon relaxed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the warden. Having booked in, topped up water and settled on our chosen pitch we relaxed for the rest of the day. Next day a walk around Abbey Wood left a little to be desired but on returning to the site it was instant peace again. Taking train to London we had a good but cold day on the Thames before returning to the warmth of our motor home. Only left the journey back to the M25. A brilliant, clean, helpful and relaxing site.
