Another nice stay at this site

We visit this site often because it is close to family. This is our first visit since February (and since Covid) so there was some apprehension but there was nothing to worry about. The site was very quite (due I think to the lack of foreign visitors) but was still well maintained, kept clean and secure. The Wardens who look after the site were friendly, helpful and make you feel very welcome and maintain a good balance between making your stay enjoyable and ensuring you understand the rules around keeping people safe from Covid. We will be visiting again soon and have no concerns now about Covid Security.

Great access to central London

Abbey Wood is set in an urban area in the fringes of East London, subsequently it’s a 25min overland train to London Bridge. This mean access to central London is very easy, including direct bus routes to Greenwich. The nearby train station is much improved since our last visit in 2014 (Oyster cards accepted). The site itself remains well cared for with the usual high standards of cleanliness in the facilities. Having visited Crystal (car park) Palace site last year...Abbey Wood is our preferred option when visiting the capital.

Another lovely visit.

We have just returned from Abbey Wood site having stayed for five nights. All the wardens are very friendly and helpful, the site is very well kept and the facilities spotless. We visited our son and also went into central London choosing to use the Thames Uber Clipper boat from Woolwich Arsenal Pier to central London very convenient. If it wasn’t for Covid 19 we would have used the tube or bus very convenient from this site. Central London was really quiet and we felt very safe. We will definitely be returning. Fantastic job being done by Steph,Chris and all the team at Abbey wood.

Another very good stay

Once again, we found ourselves at Abbey Wood, predominately to be able to visit nearby family, but also for access to London. As ever, the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and they maintain the site to a very high standard. Local buses are efficient and the trains provide easy access into the city. This time we discovered Lesnes Abbey - what an interesting place and it is a lovely landscaped area for a local walk, very close to the site. We look forward to our next visit.

Very well maintained and managed

A very well appointed parkland site with immaculate facilities. Yes the surrounding area is grotty but it’s east London! On site you are very safe and the site Is peaceful, It’s actually hard to believe you are in London. Greenwich is a 20 minute drive and a beautiful place to visit, obviously central London is close by train too. We stayed during COVID and we were impressed at the sensible approach of the wardens. Look out for the warden couple, don’t know there names, she is from Liverpool and he is tall bald funny man, they made our stay great, thank you. The squirrels are entertaining and foxes love a pair of shoes... seriously don’t leave shoes in the awning! A well managed site with good serviced pitches and very clean facilities, we will be back.

Lovely week relaxing & visiting London

After a last-minute switch from a site in deepest Cornwall (to avoid the staycation-related beach frenzy and queues at supermarkets, etc) we decided on a week at Abbey Wood to have a city-break. With 2 teenagers we needed an active holiday. As other reviewers have said, the site is ideally placed for the station into London. The station was 5 - 10 mins down the road & then approx 30 mins directly into London. We had a fabulous week of travelling into London and sight-seeing. We were especially good at 'eating out to help out'! Many of the pubs & restaurants had only just opened and were very pleased to have customers. The Abbey Arms by the station does delicious pizzas. The site is green & lush with foxes & squirrels galore and the chatty but joyful parakeets. Clean, tidy and well-kept with friendly staff. Due to the current circumstances, the park wasn't busy and I had the odd experience of being the only person in the female shower-block most days. Unheard of in school holidays when it is usually packed with women, children and teens blow-drying their hair! Most people seemed to be using their on-board facilities. The only reason I would hesitate to stay here again was the last 10 mins of the journey in which were a bit stressful due to towing a van over the severe speed bumps in the residential area (my hitch was knocked on each one) and lots of 'road furniture' and precarious parking. We made it, of course, but it wasn't my favourite bit of towing. Also, as other reviewers have said, you can't use Knee Hill to leave the site so have to go back through the residential area. Deep breath, plan your route and you'll be fine!

Excellent, as always

We now consider ourselves 'regulars' at Abbey Wood and our latest stay was, a ever, excellent. We need to change our plans at short notice and the staff could not have been more helpful. They are always cheerful and friendly and the standard of maintenance and cleanliness on the site is very good indeed. The site is great for access to London from Abbey Wood Station and the bus services are good. There is a very large Sainsburys just over the flyover by Abbey Wood Station, walkable from the site too. Thank you to all the staff at this site. We shall be booking again soon.

Another Excellent Stay at Abbeywood

Stayed here for 2 nights (21-22 February) to visit family in London and also see a performance at theatre. Having stayed here in 2019, we had no hesitance in booking the site again (although we had a look at Crystal Palace site which was fully booked for same dates!) and again, we weren't disappointed! Reception staff really helpful on arrival noting site was full (as it often is; book early!) and suggested a number of possible pitches which were all fine. Site is beautifully maintained, clean, tidy and quiet, built into parkland on a hill which makes it seem almost rural! Even traffic noise in unobtrusive and no problem sleeping. 15 minutes walk to Abbey Wood railway station which is 35 minutes from Charing Cross. Pub by station is very friendly and reasonably priced. No hesitation in recommending; we will be back!

Super Xmas break

We (family of 4) stayed for 8 nights, 21st to 29th December, and had a lovely relaxing break. Site was 1/3 full when we arrived and got progressively busier as the week went on, but it was always quiet at night (not sure it would be so peaceful during summer months when it was full). Shower block was always warm and clean with oodles of hot water (great water pressure too), barely saw another soul - felt like we had the place to our selves!! Washing up area was one of the best we've used - lovely deep sinks with (again) masses of hot water. We managed to get good TV reception from van aerial without a booster needed. We bought WiFi which at times was good but also experienced quite a bit of droppage as the site filled up. Easy 10 min walk to Abbey Wood railway station (National Rail - not TfL)., but you can buy TfL Travelcards. Very frequent trains into central London - every 10 mins even in the holidays. We probably could've got cheaper family travel for the week if we'd done more homework before coming due to the daily charges for the children. There is a little Co-op 5 min walk away and we drove to the Tesco at Bexley (15 mins) away for our xmas food shop. Be warned it only has underground parking so you would have to find alternative parking if you have a motor home. We also saw a Morrisons opposite Tesco but don't know about the parking options. We loved listening and watching the parakeets flying around the trees. We saw masses of squirrels but didn't experience issues with any other wildlife despite leaving the bin outside the van overnight. Follow the Club driving directions to the letter and you'll get there without too much bother...the satnav will try and take you down Knee Hill...don't go that way or you'll end in a right pickle as it is a steep narrow lane that buses use and there's barely enough width for 2 cars!! Lovely and peaceful holiday - we will probably visit again but during quieter times as we like our sleep!!
