Great stay at Abbey Wood

Had a great time here, quiet site as well, apart the birds. Didn't realise we could not leave before 8:00 a.m. So had to park up and wait to leave on our final day. So easy to get into London by train took about 40 minutes, will be even quicker when cross rail opens.

Great

Stayed for a few nights so we could take in a show, go to Greenwich. The directions are spot on but make sure you pick up the A201, its easy if you do and a bit of a b~~~~r if you miss it. DONT GO DOWN KNEE HILL. Great team of wardens, all 8 of them. Mark and Mark are a team. Transport to anywhere is a doddle. If you are a wrinkly you can us ethe bus pass on buses but not trains. Royal Observatory is 3/4 hour away on bus. Be prepared for rip off prices for food. Tina musical. Well lets say as it was the first night of the new Tina it was average. Site though is brilliant if you dont park undre the trees. It was really raining chestnuts.

beautiful quiet site

Such a surprise! When you drive in from a noisy busy suburb and enter into the green tranquil space it is a real surprise. Surrounded by trees and parakeets you would think you were out in the countryside. The facilities are as always spotlessly clean, a decent dog walk is on the site and the pitches are spacious and well kept. Abbey Wood park containing Lesnes Abbey is well worth a visit. It is just opposite the site and the grounds are extensive. We took our dogs every day and nowhere near covered the whole park. It is beautifully laid out with lots of information, including a tea room and information centre around the Abbey. It is all free. It is a short walk to the station, down into the 'village' where you can get a train directly to London Bridge and Charing Cross. While we were there the village held a food street market which was fun and interesting, and the local pub does superb pizzas. If we visit London again we will definitely stop here again

Lives up to expectations

This is my first trip to Abbey Wood as Crystal Palace has always been my favoured London stop. I can’t add much to all of the positive reviews already posted other than agree. It’s a great site, a quiet, green oasis in the urban sprawl that is Greater London. The immediate surrounding area holds little of interest and doesn’t have much in the way of nice restaurants and pubs, but as a base for exploring further afield it’s perfect.

Great base

Great location within 30mins train ride of London Bridge station. Plenty of shops in Abbey Wood village and a large Sainsburys just beyond. Facilities are good - particularly heated floors in showers in winter. Deceptively tranquil location in the centre of a London suburb

Perfect site to visit London

We booked this site to visit London. The shower and toilet facilities are spotless and modern. The showers are very good with plenty of water. There is a small park for kids to play in. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Visiting London. It's a five minute walk to the modern Abbey wood train station. The trains come frequently and it costs about £6 return for Adult and £4.65 for kids return to Central London. Getting off at Charing cross station in London will get you to the London eye and Westminster etc. Also there is a tube station at Charing cross. Kids travel free on the tube. Use the wide gates to let you through. We used Oyster travel cards for every journey for us and just bought return tickets from Abbeywood station every day for the kids. We would definitely use Abbeywood camp site again for London and would recommend it to anyone.

great time

Loved our stay at Abbey wood. Nice spacious places in between de trees. De site is not actually in Abbey wood but next to it. very helpfull stadf Clean toilets and shower facilities. We visited during bank holiday but is was still peaceful and quiet. Seen a Vox an a lot of squirrels in the campsite. 10 minutes walk to Abbey Wood station, various trains very regularly that take you in to the centre of London in 30 minutes. Large Sainsbury next to the station that opens at 7am and closes at 10pm every day but Sunday.

Lovely oasis close to central London

Once onsite you would not know you were so close to London as it is so green and quiet. Yes there is some aircraft noise from City Airport but never bothered us. Abbey Wood station is very conveniently only 10 mins walk away. The facilities are kept very clean and tidy by an army of staff regularly working around the site and they are always extremely helpful. We visited for 9 nights in the middle of August. During this time it was a very busy site but the pitches are very defined so no issue there. If you get fed up with the City, Southend Pier and Ramsgate are a fair drive away but well worth the visit if you can.

Excellent location

I love everything about this place as it is so convenient for central London. It is only 10 minute walk if that to the train station and 25 minute journey to London Bridge to change for wherever you want to go in central London. The site is lovely as the trees make the place. You would never know you are in London as it is so quiet there. Admittedly it is very close to London Airport so there is aircraft noise starting early which doesn’t bother me but notice not so many flights over the weekend due to being closed for a short period. There is a Sainsburys next to the train station and saw lots of takeaways near the station so you won’t go hungry! Watch out for foxes and squirrels if you have awning up as they love to steal! Other than that all good and would highly recommend this place as this is somewhere I love to keep going back as already booked to go there for new year.

Great Site - Let down by some of it's visitors

This is our 2nd visit in as many months (June and July) since it is a convinient for visiting family nearby. Althought overall this is a great site and the Wardens are friendly and work hard to keep the place clean (this is obvious in the difference betweens the Wardens having just cleaned and later in the day) the latter visit was not as pleaseant as the first. For a start we found unflushed toilets, toilet paper all strewn across the floor in cubicles - I put this down to the number of Children on site this time round since I am convienced Adults would not act this way? I was also disappointed by the lack of respect for 'Pitch Privacy' - We were behind the Camping area and both Adults and Children from there seem to feel no compunction in walking across pitches to get to the Toliet Block etc including some who were so close to the Caravan they were actually looking in! Finally disappointed to find one of the Toilet Blocks still closed (the same one) so can only put this down to either a Money Saving or Labour saving Exercise and probably contributed to issues highlighted above? In addition the facilities in the other Toilet Blocks are somewhat dated and 'tired' As said friendly and hard working wardens and overall a pleasant site (which we will use again) but as stated before the site eally could do with both a facelift and perhaps a reminder of Pitch Etiquette to visitors.
