Arrived to a very hearty welcome, we arrived a little late and had to leave at 730 am
Nothing was too much trouble for the owner or manager in charge, he got up early to let us out.
Pitch was nice & flat, nice and quiet, will be re visiting again
Toilets clean and everywhere spotless
Thank you again
Sam
be aware
We had a pleasant time here cycling the Thames path , close to supermarkets and shops of all kinds . Railstation within easy walking distance for trips to central London. But and its a big but be very aware that the London Emission zone covers this site and the regs have changed as to what vehicles have now to pay (March 2021). If you motorhome is over 3.5 tons and is not Euro 6 rated or vehicle does not meet the new emmission regs you must pay the charge within 24 hours of entering . The best way to check is to use the tfl.gov.uk/lez site and use your registration to find if you must pay. Do not consult online forums as they out of date.
A good site made Great by the staff
We have visited twice; we like London and our youngest just gave us our first Granchild! On our first visit I hurt my back lifting awkwardly (hospital job...).
The staff were PROACTIVELY supportive, noticing my painful limp and keeping a respectful “eye on me” while wife saw “our” new baby - I certainly didn’t want her to be marooned with me.
On our 2nd visit the staff insisted I didn’t “provoke “ my back and helping in a way that I felt OK about, i.e. joking and making sure I wasn’t embarrassed by not being able to “do my jobs”...
They have been the best site staff among many good site staff over the years.
For all the caravaners who WON’T injure themselves, this is still a great site! London is the draw but also give the Abbey Inn pub, with the Sourdough Pizza restaurant a try - with a Wednesday free film night and many other attractions we enjoyed our visits.
The ambience is friendly, with smiles from the owners and what seemed to be local residents and commuters from the adjacent Station. We generally found folks pleasant, perhaps helped ‘cos we don’t “look down our noses” at anyone, anywhere. We prefer, as a couple, to “live and let live” without feeling superior to our fellows (come on: you know what I mean!).
Book ahead and be chilled about which pitch you get - there’s no pre-choosing - all have their advantages.
We are booked to come back in July for our third visit this year (and if Grandma has her way I don’t doubt we will be testing the Bailey heating and insulation during Autumn...).
Super site
a warm welcome awates you at this site, the wardens could not be more helpful
We had to leave our daughter and mother on site as we had a family emergency and we asked the staff to keep a watch on them should they have any technical issues and they were more than happy to oblige. their few days went without hitch and although we did cut our visit short nothing was to much trouble. the wild life is amazing and yes the foxs steal shoes!!! (We were warned)
With other issues on site the wardens need medals and are a credit to our superb club
Thank you Abbey wood we will return!!!!! to continue our adventure
The perfect stay
We arrived here at the site and we’re welcomed by two lovely couples, the check in process was quick and easy and made so by the site managers.
We were two MotorHomes travelling together and the managers did everything to ensure we were sited next to each other. The site is very beautiful and yet very secure with discreet cameras tucked away in the pleasant surroundings of tall leafy trees and chirping green parakeets. After settling in staff members arrived to ensure that we were happy and ok (which we were). After that we were left alone to enjoy the peace and quiet. The site itself is exceedingly clean as were all the facilities, and they were kept that way throughout the whole of our stay. We stayed for three days and during this time the staff came by occasionally whilst maintaining the site just to chat.
This is the ideal site for trips into London with the train station just down the road which will take you into London Bridge, ideal for trips to the West End etc.
We will definitely be back, once you’ve stayed here you’ll put this at the top of your ‘I’m gonna return here’, list.
Great prices as well as club members
Lovely evening- secure and leafy Abbey Wood
We were unsure about booking to stay here as we had a bad impression of the area from years ago, but we were delighted to find the campsite was very secure, with lots of cctv and hedges all over the place to delay and deter any sneaky thieves. Plus Abbey wood iteself seems to have really improved- and maybe we were wrong?
The wardens were superb- they got in touch when I was fretting over how long we could leave the van on our checkout day , and were incredibly welcoming and warm. The site itself was beautiful, with so many blossoming trees and plenty of space.
I liked being able to choose a pitch - as this was our first stay on a Caravan and Motorhome club site, we were surprised. Likewise I hadn't clocked that loos and sinks were open , and there were no queues. Although the info suggested TV coverage was poor, in the crescent we were fine for the Line of Duty final , which was a relief!
We will certainly be returning so we can bike into Greenwich , and get to see the ruins of Lesnes Abbey too. It felt like a place you could relax, and go out and about with confidence.
Return to lovely Abbey Wood
We have been visiting Abbey Wood site for several years and it just gets better and better.
This was the first time in a year that we could visit our son in London (outdoors of course).
The caravan site was looking tidy and well tended. The wardens were delightful, very helpful, friendly and cheerful.
Due to the Covid 19 restrictions, the site was less than half full, so it was even quieter than usual.
We had to use our own shower (no problem) but, fortunately, we were able to use the site toilets.
Other reviewers have referred to the transport options available.
We drove to the outskirts of Greenwich, one day, and the route was not busy.
We took the train a couple of times and felt reasonably comfortable - most people were following Covid guidelines, I would say at least 90% of people were wearing face masks.
The trains were every 10 minutes and they were on time.
We are looking forward to our next visit in a couple of months.
We had a superb weekend, all in all.
Many thanks to the site management team for making us so welcome.
A hidden gem! What a surprise!
We have just returned from a tour to visit family. Our first stop was at Abbey Wood where we spent 5 relaxed and peaceful nights.
The site sits in acres of woodland planting which is tiered to make best use of the site. Pitches are spacious and beautifully maintained.
The wardens were all extremely helpful and friendly and are clearly working very hard to keep everyone safe.
A local shopping area within walking distance provides the basics and it is a short car journey to the nearest supermarket.
Within a short stroll through woodland paths you will find the extensive ruins of a large Abbey. A fabulous open space with lovely cafe area and outside seating.
This was our first visit to this site but will not be our last. Highly recommend if you are visiting London.

MY GRANDSON AND I have just had an amazing 5 days at Abbey Wood
Bearing in mind the covid restrictions the staff went out of their way to ensure we had a most comfortable and brilliant stay. The wooded areas on site were unbelievably rural, Our pitch was perfect and it’s hard to believe that you are so close to the City. The facilities were spotless and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I would definitely recommend it and will certainly be returning.
You don’t feel as if you’re in London!
I’ve lived nearly half my life in London and like many always try to escape it when the chance comes. Even in the caravan. But even though one is allowed to go on holiday when living in a Tier 2 Covid zone, I decided to stay in Tier 2. What an escape it was. You really don’t feel as if you’re in London anymore.
Well kept site, extremely friendly wardens and a lovely setting. The train station is also only a short walk away for trains to London.
I can highly recommend an escape to this site. Even if you’re a Londoner like me!
