An oasis of calm in London

Stopped here for two nights 20/21 Nov 2021, the staff were excellent especially the meet and greet lady, nothing was too much, her demeanour was welcoming and the bonus was that she was lovely as well with my little dog. The location for links into central London are fantastic, the Abbey Pub next to the station is spot on and the site itself was very peaceful and clean. Will definitely be stopping again…

Shame about the Commercial Vehicles on-site

We stayed on this site which was very nice and quite. But very disappointed in seeing 3 commercial vehicles on the site. One was a large white panel van which was with a Motorhome. The 2nd van was a Ford Transit panel van on a pitch. The 3rd one on a pitch was a Pickup vehicle which had a commercial box trailer hooked up to the electric. The club rules are that the only commercial vehicles allowed on site are if they are towing a caravan. So these 3 vehicles were allowed on site against club rules. My question is why .

All you need here for exploring London

This was our second stay here this year and it did not disappoint. A quiet park-like setting with the occasional fox! And yet within minutes of excellent transport links into London; the railway was quiet when we used it outside commuting hours but the local buses into London can get busy; we opted for the river cruise route one day which was excellent to see the sights from a new viewpoint and have experienced commentary. The highlight for us on site was the heated floor in the accessible facility room. This was a real joy and in stark contrast to the comfort of such rooms on some other sites. In our view this investment was very much appreciated! Thanks to all staff on site.

Great site brilliantly located

We stayed at the Abbey Wood CAMC site from 31st October for 4 nights and can honestly say it was a real pleasure from start to finish. We were welcomed at reception with all the information we needed including directions to the train station. All the staff we met were so helpful. The location of this site makes it so easy to get into the City and even walking back late at night felt very safe. Great site and will definately be going back.

Friendly Campsite

Arrived at Abbey Wood on 15th October for 4 nights on a Service Pitch. Was checked in by a lovely lady who reconised me from a previous stay we had in the Summer. She was very welcoming. When pitching up we had problems with accessing the water to our aqua roll. Rick, who is the husband of the receptionist at check in, could not do enough to help and he finally got our water supply through. Could not thank this couple enough for making our second stay at Abbeys Wood stress free.

Great base for exploring London

This is a fantastic site - well organised, spacious pitches, good facilities and with a consistently friendly welcome from the helpful and knowledgeable wardens. The trees and wildlife make the site feel quite rural despite the proximity to the superb network of buses and trains a short walk away. We've used the site three times this year - we've brought bikes with us on two occasions and cycled on The Thames Path cycle network and to Greenwich. We've also taken the train from Abbey Wood station to Woolwich Arsenal and then jumped on a Thames Clipper boat to central London. We're really pleased to have found this site and will use it whenever we need our London fix!

Just fantastic

We have to echo the views of others about this site. We were a little nervous about taking the caravan to London but no more! Really easy to get to and then wow, one of the best sites we have stayed at - just beautiful. It was like staying the in middle of a park, so well set out, fabulous mature trees and waking up was like being in an aviary with the birdsong and the parakeets. The staff are quite exceptional. A lovely welcome and cheerful friendly staff throughout the stay. Quite frankly you could just spend a break here without leaving the site, there is so much to enjoy while you are there. But the added bonus is the nearby train station taking you in 30 minutes to central London. Just great, thank you so much Abbey Wood staff, we have already booked for our next visit.

Great location - oasis of woods - close to London transport network

What a brilliant site! Large pitches, site very roomy, lots of facilities - modern and clean. Only a 10 minute walk to Abbey Wood over ground train station - circa 30 minutes to London Bridge and the trains run every 15 minutes or so right up to midnight. A perfect location for exploring London/going to a show.

Wonderful surprise of a site and super-friendly wardens

Travelling through housing estates and built-up areas, you turn left into Abbey Wood site and into a green oasis full of mature trees, well-kept green spaces and the beautiful floral display at reception. The greeting was warm, friendly and welcoming and we were told to find a pitch before returning to reception for a pass key to the gates. The site was not too busy and we had plenty of pitches from which to choose. We found one level enough to not to have to use anything under the wheels. Within the centre of the site and next to the play area there is a large space for camping. The variety of tents was interesting and a far cry from the days when we used canvas. Just one party did not obey site rules, setting up their tent and camp far too close to another unit and lighting a fire with enormous flames and smoke with only about 2 metres space - against all health and safety guidance. The layout of the site made all the rest of the areas feel spacious and not ‘overlooked’. There is a play area for the children, so the days are full of excited noise from the younger ones, playing, riding bikes and scooters, and bouncing balls. Everyone observed site etiquette and things went quiet by 10pm. The nights are slightly disturbed by a little bit of road noise and the screams of the resident family of foxes - but none of it was too intrusive. The facilities were kept spotlessly clean, but for such a large site there is only one disabled shower. With three separate toilet/shower blocks it would be great if the club could think about updating a little and provide disabled facilities in each of them. We were there during some fine weather and the towering mature trees gave lovely dappled shade, and were also home for some gorgeous parakeets. Not too far away and within walking distance there is a Sainsbury’s, some take-aways in Abbey Wood ‘village’ - all a short downhill stroll from the site. There is also a cafe which is very popular with the locals and clearly the daily meeting place for a good chinwag. The railway station too is a short downhill stroll from the site and we found the service to be excellent and very regular. With so many places to visit and so much to do, we will be returning to again enjoy all that Abbey Wood has to offer.

Fantastic Location

Great site. Spotlessly maintained with spacious pitches & helpful staff.. The location, 10 minutes walk to the station with direct connection into central London makes this site perfect for any visit to town. Lesnes Abbey ruins adjacent to the site are well worth a visit too. Oh, and that screaming noise in the night? It’s just the foxes! No problem as long as you don’t leave shoes outside your van.
