Very peaceful

A very peaceful and well kept CL with good views and surrounded by sheep, cows and horses. Exactly what a CL is about. Very handy for Hadrians' Wall. We only stayed for one night as we were en route to home but a CL we could thoroughly recommend

peaceful and pretty

We really enjoyed our stay at Whittlees, thank you Mrs Kennedy. It is so quiet it makes your ears itch! The site was easy to find, following the very clear instructions. All the facilities are clearly arranged, easy to use and clean. It is a good centre from which to explore Hadrians Wall - Vindolanda and Corbridge are within an easy drive and Birdoswald is almost on the doorstep. Keilder forest, and Northumberland National Park are a short ride away. Good cycling routes and walking, lots for everyone to enjoy. TV  and cell phone reception absolutely fkne, no problems at all

enjoyed our stay

we stayed here from the 2/06/14 for 7 days as our base while we walked the roman wall walk.the site is well looked after, the grass cut short and cuttings collected no mess on the carpets an added bonus. unlike the pervious reviewer who was on site while we were there ,we had no problems with the owners at all, i rang a couple of times to change bookings and got through no problem.good electricity supply never triped even when we used our fan heater to dry our walking gear. the only down side is it is on a hill side so getting a level pitch is hard so bring leveling ramps and blocks but all good apart from that. gisland does not have a shop nearest is at halwhistle 5 miles away so make sure you bring enough supplys for your first cople of days. Tesco.com deliver to the site and we used that service.phone signal ok just gprs no 3g and tv is on and off even with a new digital set up in a new van, so may be whise to bring sat dish if you have one. all in all a good site ,and good value at £10 a night.

great location

This is a great location for Hadrians Wall and all the associated attractions. It is quiet and the views of the Whin Sill are amazing. The problem is that the owners are almost impossible to contact. The husband does not appear to have a mobile, the landline is always on record and nobody phones back. The wife is at work in the local tearoom and cannot be contacted. We booked in November 2013 by phone and then rang from New Zealand this April to confirm the booking. Their daughter answered  and confirmed that we were booked in. Imagine how we felt when arriving to discover 6 vans already on site and no hookups available.Eventually a motorhome couple who were leaving the next morning offered their hookup as they didn't need it and I did a temporary pitch on a slope so bad that I had to dig a hole for one wheel and use the full height of a Milenco leveller the other side just to get nearly level!! No apologies at all from the family in fact we were told at the end of our 2 week stay that it was our fault. When I asked for the daughters email address so that we could get away from this situation in future (we come up every year at the same time and this was our 3rd stay) I was informed that they could not provide it as they don't know it as computers are beyond them! Customer service this is not. We will not be back as they do not deserve our money.

A Great Site

We loved this CL. It is large and well maintained and in a pretty location. Facilities are clean and very convenient to use. It is an ideal location for anyone wanting to visit or walk on Hadrian's Wall as the bus stops on request only a few minutes walk away. Owner was very helpful in providing bus timetables and information and has free-range eggs available for sale.

Great for Hadrian's Wall

This CL is very good for Hadrian's Wall walks and museums etc and the Hadrian's Wall bus stops outside the site. The owners have tried hard to make the water tap, bins, and chemical disposal clean and dry to use. It was a little boggy underfoot due to the very wet weather we had in September but there is a good hard access into the field itself.
