Perfect place to get away from modern life

When we arrived Bruce came out to greet us and made us feel immediately welcome with his warm and friendly approach. He was so helpful throughout our stay. Loads of space between the vans. The site is very private and quite and set in beautiful part of Shropshire. It is a mile to Bishops Castle, we walked there with no problem, although we did struggle a bit to find the way by foot. You have to walk a short way on the road, which is very quite with very little traffic. The tricky bit was finding the access point to walk on the rural path, which takes you straight into Bishops Castle. The town is so lovely, it is like going back in time. Great pubs and a great Fish and Chip shop. We did a 7 mile loop walk that took us from Bishops Castle to round some beautiful country side and back to the site. Plenty of other walks too.

A perfect CL

We needed to be near Bishop’s Castle for a few days in September and found the perfect spot at Valais. Anne and Bruce are really good at communicating, from booking through to arrival. Do make sure you follow directions on club site though. Bruce welcomed us with an open gate and directed us to our huge pitch. All the pitches here are more than generous and have hook ups and beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. We had a problem with our pump when we arrived and Bruce and Anne went out of their way to help us sort it. They are the perfect couple to run a CL. It’s a half hour walk into Bishop’s Castle along the beautiful Shropshire Way or a 5 minute drive. The whole area is peaceful and blissfully quiet and there are plenty of places to explore nearby. We loved our stay here and hope to return in the future.

An amazing CL in a beautiful part of Shropshire

We stayed for three nights in our campervan. We were met on arrival by Bruce who provided loads of information on the local area, including leaflets on places to eat and local walks. We met Anne later and she was just as welcoming. They were very helpful and lovely to talk to, but not intrusive. The site is extremely well kept with very spacious pitches, all on grass but well drained and level. Each pitch has electric hook up, with well maintained loo dump, bins and fresh water point. There are great views all around and, although about 250m from the A488, we didn't hear the traffic (which is light anyway). They have sheep and goats on the site and also keep chickens, ducks and quails. Eggs are for sale at the entrance and sometimes goat's cheese - we missed the cheese window so will have to return to try it! We enjoyed some lovely walks from the site, including into Bishop's Castle along part of the Shropshire Way. BC is a lovely little market town with loads of independent shops and six pubs (including two micro-breweries). There are plenty of places to visit and walk in the local area, but we liked the peace and quiet so much, we just walked from the site. I also enjoyed a lovely bike ride on quiet roads through some small villages; for those that like them there are plenty of steep hills to cycle up and down! Valais is exactly what we want from a CL; it's quiet, spacious, well-maintained and surrounded by beautiful countryside with plenty of places to visit. With lovely hosts and a relaxing atmosphere, it's definitely one we'll return to....for the goat's cheese!

Lovely peaceful site

We were greeted by Anne at the gate, given leaflets and maps of local walks and shown to our pitch. A beautiful peaceful site with lovely views all around. The eggs were delicious and the goats kept us entertained! A lovely stroll into Bishoo’s Castle, where we discovered quirky pubs and shops, and a longer hike to Clun revealed the beautiful Shropshire countryside. The facilities (loo disposal, electric hook up and water) are basic, which is just how we like them, and the surrounding area is stunning. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful site

We spent two delightful nights at Valais. The site is as well maintained as other reviewers describe. The various animals - sheep, goats and horses - around the site are kept in small paddocks but are easily observed. They give the site character and interest. The pitches are generous in size and are closely mown. The owners are extremely friendly but never intrusive. Bishop’s Castle in nearby and an interesting place to wander around. A little further away is Clun, another attractive town. We also walked a little way along Offa’s Dyke, which is situated in lovely hilltop countryside giving wide views. Very glad we stayed.

Lovely, peaceful and well maintained.

We have stayed here several times. Bruce and Anne are great hosts. The site is immaculate and access is easy to the surrounding area. The homemade goats cheese and milk is brilliant.

A FANTASTIC site

We have stayed at many cl’s and this is one of, if not, the best we have ever stayed at in 6 years of caravanning. Can only repeat what others have said. Great hosts, very helpful and informative and amazing surroundings. It’s a lovely part of the world that we keep coming back to. The kids had a great time, especially with the nearby goats that they liked to entertain. I have no doubt that we will return here again in the future as we were instantly relaxed from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We stayed 7 nights but quickly turned that into 8. Bruce and Anne have a great set up. I shouldn’t really say how good it is because we may never get another chance to stay! A little bit of caution is needed when entering and particularly exiting as it is a little tight but nothing anyone should really worry about, just give yourself a wide swing. We are missing this place already and will return. Thanks 👍

Can't fault it...

Large, quiet grassy site with big pitches and lovely views, about a mile from Bishops Castle. Anne and Bruce are a great couple, nothing was too much trouble, and their duck eggs were a treat! We did four amazing walks from the site, from five miles to twelve. Lots of hills with spectacular views. Both Bishops Castle and Clun (which we walked to) have a lot to offer, with history and lovely old unspoiled pubs. There is also a small Co-op in town, plus fish 'n' chips, and Chinese take-away. Don't worry about the 6amp electric - it is definitely more than that, probably 16amp. We had no problems at all with it. Just one suggestion, perhaps a name change, as 'caravan park' conjures up images of a big crowded site - which is what CL users want to avoid. Will definitely be back!

Wonderful CL

What a great little CL. A warm welcome from Bruce & Anne when we arrived, giving us all the detail we needed on the sites & there local area. We stayed for 6 nights, walked or cycled everyday & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Bishop’s Castle has some lovely pubs & shops and the surrounding area is beautiful. We will definitely be back.

A Warm Welcome

We were met at the gate by Bruce and Ann and were given all the information we needed about where to pitch and where the facilities were. The CDP and drinking water facilities were excellent and grey waste goes down a drain next to the drinking water supply. Great size pitches with plenty of room on the field so all units were very well spaced. Great views from our well-maintained pitch and the first bird we saw was a Red Kite. There is some noise from the road, mostly farm traffic, but it was not intrusive, and the site is very quiet at night. It was great to buy fresh eggs (hen, quail and duck) and also tasty but mild goat’s cheese. It was nice to wake aupnd see the sheep and goats with their young close by. The scenery in this part of Shropshire is fantastic and there are so many places to visit. You can walk straight from site or go out to explore. Places we went to were Mitchells Fold Stone Circle, Burys Ditch Hill Fort, Clun and circular walk from site through fields woods and quiet country lanes. Bruce and Ann gave us lots of information about the area and a potted history of the site. We will certainly go back again to explore this lovely area.
