Relaxing and Tranquil

This CL is excellent for anyone seeking somewhere to relax in beautiful surroundings with lots of walking nearby. There are many old villages and small towns in this peaceful part of South Shropshire that are well worth exploring. We telephoned ahead to inform the owners of our expected arrival time and were met at the entrance gate by Bruce. He explained the site layout and provide a very useful welome pack with information about the local area. The pitches are neatly mown and well drained (a long spell of heavy rain one night followed by regualr showers did not cause any problems) Electricity and water is supplied direct to each pitch and waste water disposal was convenient. Two friendly horses and three lovely sheep were in adjoining enclosures; they did not disturb us in any way. Bruce and Anne made us most welcome throughout our stay and were able to supply some fresh produce such as eggs. This site will be my first choice when I return to the area. Highly recommended.

An Excellent site for so many Reasons

Having moved from a Caravan to a motorhome, we joined the CAMC as we were trying to locate a site in this part of Shropshire to start our tour and this turned out to be an excellent decision - this site was perfect for us. Peaceful; surrounded by stunning scenery, great walking opportunities, including the Shropshire Way, and a warm welcome at the gate by the owner when we arrived. We loved the way the pitches were 'mowed' into the meadow grass, creating a sense of being nicely separated from other units but this sense of space was also emphasised by the size of the field. It was a nice touch to have the sheep and goats grazing in their own paddocks either side of the entrance. A wonderful rural retreat, There is still more walking we want to do here so now we have this site on a go-to list.

First time and will not be our last

I can only echo what others have said. A quick text to the owners when 30 mins away to be met by Bruce at the pre opened gates with welcome pack in hand. Lots of good advice, especially regarding walking into Bishops Castle via a green lane and footpath which brings you out pretty much in the town centre and completely avoids the main road. After the 'meet and greet' we were left alone to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. One little tip, the left off the main road in Colebatch is not best signed and could be easy to miss as the post code is a general one for the area, I meant to get a what 3 words location for the gate to the site, maybe Bruce and can sort one out sometime. Many thanks again, will defo be back!

Peaceful

Spent a couple of nights there this may. Bruce and Anne run a lovely well kept site surrounded by sheep, wonderful country side and interesting places. Eggs for sale at the gate, were excellent, pitches were flat'ish, easy to level a motor home. We will be back.

A lovely site

We spent 10 nights here in September (during the heatwave!) and thoroughly enjoyed the site, and the area too. It is everything you would expect from a rural CL. It is an ideal base to explore the Shropshire Hills, and there are easy walks from the site into Bishops Castle, as well as quiet lanes for cycling. Bruce and Anne were really welcoming and helpful, and happy to chat if you wanted to whilst they got on with looking after their horses, sheep, ducks, etc etc! The large flat grass pitches are separated by longer grass which was cut for hay for the horses whilst we were there, but that was good to see as nothing is being wasted, and Bruce spent ages raking the turned grass back off the pitches to keep everything tidy. The facilties are perfect and I won't re-iterate all that has been said before, suffice to say when we next visit the area we will definitely stay here again. Thank you Bruce and Anne, you have a lovely place.

Great CL site

Stayed for two nights, really liked the long meadow grass between pitches ( the pitch itself nicely mown). A choice of fresh eggs every morning, we went for the lovely duck eggs. Great walks very close by for the dog. A really nice welcome together with an information pack on the local area. Exactly what a great CL should be. Highly recommended.

Great CL, a little gem

After a wee break of 3 weeks while the weather has been doing a practice run for autumn, we’ve come to Bishops Castle in Shropshire. We stayed at this lovely CL, approximately a mile from the town. All grass (mown) pitches, spaciously separated by long meadow grass which makes for such a nice relaxing environment, with the owners goats and horses in the paddocks next to the CL. The very welcoming owner Bruce came out to greet us, and supplied us with a superb pack of information about the local walks, pubs etc and more. Such a peaceful and well managed CL, it’s a credit to the owners Bruce and Anne. As it was a hot day, we chose to do a short walk with our dog Oscar to and from Bishops Castle, but there are so many walks in this area you are spoilt for choice. You can also download both walking and cycling routes from the website www.bishopscastle.co.uk. We walked into the town via the Shropshire way trail, circa 1.5 miles there, and we ended up doing a 4.5 miles round trip. The landscape is very picturesque and peaceful, being mostly a farming area, with both animals and arable. Bishops castle is such a quaint and old small town, with brightly coloured building and small individual shops - several places to eat, with the castle hotel (dog friendly inside and out) at the top of the hill being in such a prominent and picturesque position, built on the site of the original castle. Even the church is an interesting place to visit, having its own history trail leaflet to follow. Definitely a place and CL worth visiting if in the area, you won’t be disappointed

Lovely peaceful CL site

We have visited this area a number of times over the years and were delighted to find such a beautifully laid out, quiet site near to Bishops Castle. The views of the surrounding hills were lovely. The pitches are large and well laid out, with long grass in between each pitch but well cut short grass on the pitches. Power and water to each pitch was very welcome. Bruce and Anne were very helpful and provided us with an local information pack when we arrived. We would love to come for another stay if we’re in Shropshire in the future!

A Superb Site

We stayed here for 5 nights in July 2023. Bruce couldn't have been more welcoming. He's made an excellent job of setting out the very large grassy field. We liked the way each of the pitches were subtly divided by leaving long uncut grass in between each one. The actual pitches were neatly mown and collected. Attractive views up to the nearby hills too. The facilities, EHU and water at each pitch are firmly fitted to strong posts and the emptying point for the toilet is very well positioned and arranged. We visited the many castles in the area and took the 552/3 bus from Bishops Castle to Shrewsbury, one hour's fast ride leaving at 12.20 and returning at 16.22. The last bus back is at 17.40. In Shrewsbury castle gardens there is currently an amazing Salvador Dali installation. Congratulations Bruce on running an excellent site.
