A Very Good typical CL

This is what it's all about. Great Views, Great part of the world. Plenty to see and do in the Borders. Will be back.

Gem of a site

A gem of a site in a beautiful area, plenty to see in Jedburgh & some beautiful walks on & around the river. Owners very helpful & could not do enough. We hope to return in the future.

A beautiful wee site.

This site was perfect for our needs, beautiful views, well signposted walks for the dog, free wifi ( which is not necessary but very welcome for us), and above all beautifully peaceful and quiet. It is certainly is a working farm, with lots of sheep, but that adds to its charm. Plenty of information given on the board. A lovely place to stay.

A Little TLC Needed

This site with super views was spoilt by lack of care. Fortunately we were only there for an overnight stay, if not we would have moved on. The grass had obviously been cut when quite long and just left in great soggy clumps everywhere. What would it take just to rake or pick it up? We realise it's been a wet period but other CLs we've been on in the last couple of weeks have managed. It makes such a difference when a site owner cares, makes you welcome or takes a pride in their cl. This one did neither!

A lovely site

We stayed here in July and enjoyed our stay immensely. The views are lovely and the facilities were fine. The owners had clearly gone to a lot of trouble to signpost the walks which was a bonus. The wi fi was good so all in all we thought it was excellent value for money. With regards to the grass, it was short whilst we were there but, as another reviewer said, this is a working farm.  I think that if staying on c.l's one should always take a pair of wellies and be prepared for such things as long grass or sheep droppings. If not then maybe a regular campsite would be more suitable, together with its higher prices and better facilities! I would certainly stay there again.

Disgraceful

We arrived at this site and found that the whole caravan area was covered in sheep poo. The lateness of the hour prevented us moving on so we decided to put up with it and move the next day even though we had booked in advance for 2 weeks. We were very disappointed and annoyed at the obvious lack of respect for caravanners. We had 2 dogs with us so walking them on the site was out of the question. Even if the poo hadn't been there, the grassy areas were quite boggy and there are no paths to either the bin area, fresh water or CDP. It is open 12 months of the year but there is no lagging on the drinking water tap or the CDP tap. I paid our fee to the site operator next morning and told him that the site was a disgrace. "Aren't you happy?"he asked me. I told him the whole area was covered with sheep poo and he said that he had had sheep on the site!!

October 2015 visit

We stayed at The Bairnkine for 5 nights in mid October 2015. This is a typical CL in that it is part of a working farm – the site being an area of paddock overlooking The Cheviots [& a multitude of sheep!]. There are two narrow hardstandings of varying length with the remaining pitches being on grass. The EHU’s were close to each pitch. The water point, refuse disposal area & CDP were on the site extremities. There are numerous marked walks on the farm named after various local animals such as “Badger” & “Squirrel”. We didn’t actually find the maps that were supposed to act as a guide but the routes were fairly straightforward - although one wooded area was very overgrown at this time of year. A strong free Wi-Fi signal was a bonus. The nearest shops etc. were in Jedburgh which was about 3 miles away on the A68. As Scotland has an “Open Access” policy, there are few marked footpaths in the area but, in theory, you can just wander over the countryside at will. Whilst there, we ventured off site to Kirk Yeltholm close to the Scottish/English border to do a strenuous circular walk from the start/finish of The Pennine Way. Overall, a reasonably priced site to relax at & enjoy the views and the wildlife. We had just one minor grumble in that the grass really needed a cut as it was so long that it never did dry out enough to not need boots - even when we had no rain for the five days.

Lovely site

Arrived to a lovely site set on a working farm. Owners were very welcoming and the site had all we needed. Wifi was a real bonus thank you! We were the only people on the site which is unbelievable given the lovely location and facilities. When passing again we'll be sure to return. Little gem of a site, well done??

Lovely peaceful site

We stayed here for 5 nights in July. It was easy to find and access was good. The site is slightly sloping so blocks are required on the grass pitches (there are 2 hardstanding pitches). We did not meet the owners until the 2nd day, but they were very welcoming and told us about events taking place in Jedburgh. They have made some maps of walks you can do around the farm, and  were quick to  suggest alternative routes when wet/boggy ground prevented  us visiting  the bird hide and duck pond. We enjoyed our stay and would visit again, if in the area.

Bairnkine Review

We have just spent a lovely week at this CL, and agree with other reviews regariding ease of access, location, views and tranquility. However, two issues let this site down, hence only 4 out of 5 for the overall rating. These are: 1 - litter bins - these were almost full when we arrived and were not emptied until the sixth day of our stay, by which time they had overflowed and there were bags of rubbish laid around the bins. 2 - grass - the grass was quite long (several inches) and when it was cut, it was left on the field so clumps of cut grass found its way into the caravan every time we went out. It's a shame that these two things let down an otherwise great site, but even so we would return.
