Nice little site.

Great site, very clean, easy access and the owners are very helpful. Had a choice of available pitches. Right next door to Roslin Chapel. Booked for 3 nights and ended up staying 5. There is plenty of room but I did feel the spirit of the CL isn't being kept to. On three of the nights there were 6 units and on 2 of the nights I stayed there were 7 with 1 squeezed on the grass between me and the hedge. The extras seemed to have turned up unannounced.

Quiet site but be aware of late leavers from adjacent site

Access was ok until the last bit when we met 2 caravans leaving the commercial site which is adjacent. They had paid for the extra night so they could leave late. There was also a van arrived on the CL before 11am so again there is a possibility of meeting someone when you leave. One of you would have to reverse. All pitches are Hardstanding and you must also make sure your car is not on the grass. Grass is short and tidy. Quiet site with good access for Edinburgh. EE phone signal was excellent.  No choice of pitch despite 3 available on arrival. Pitch was allocated.

Peaceful site, ideal for visiting Edinburgh

Peaceful CL with limited views, friendly, helpful owner and information in the on-site toilet. Toilet shed was really clean and the site itself is very well maintained. Rosslyn chapel is a two minute walk from the site. The tours are around an hour and a half and there is a tea room. 7-10 minutes walk (some uphill )brings you into Roslin Village, where are the Roslin Hotel and pub with outdoor seating, another B&B with Dollies tearoom. The tea room serves a delicious Scottish breakfast amongst other goodies. There is a co-op just a couple of minutes further down the road. We got the bus into Edinburgh, it picks up just outside the tearoom and takes around 45 minutes, £1.80 per adult one way. return stop is Roslin hotel. Straiton park-and-ride is 10 minutes in the car from the site and the bus takes around 20-25 minutes into Edinburgh. We visited the yacht Britannia which was excellent, also the surgeons Hall with lots of interesting body parts and diseases, and Mary Kings Street where the houses were underground. All really interesting and worth a visit. Get off the bus at surgeons Hall for visit and it’s about 10 minutes walk to the Royal Mile. A lovely site with good space between caravans and you can pitch wherever you want that’s available, and whichever direction you want. This is one of the things we absolutely love about CLs and hate being squashed in on a line. Certainly would recommend it, and thanks very much for a great stay.

A hidden gem

Stopped here for four nights to visit family. Site is immaculate with a single toilet. Hard standings with grass surrounding. Village has good shops and eating places. Great walks in the glen but it is hilly. Owners are so welcoming every time we stay and it is a short distance from bypass so access is good. Buses nearby to city are great and frequent.

Love this simple site

We have stayed here twice and each time it has been fab. The owner is lovely, the ehu is 16amp, and the pitches are hard standing, large and flat. There are lots of birds around the site and on our October stay lots of mushrooms and other fungi. The original Rosslyn Inn does a good pint and a decent dinner and Dolly's tearoom does a fabulous breakfast ~I can recommend the porridge! There's a coop in the village and several other little shops. Everyone is super friendly and of course the (in)famous Chapel is literally 2 mins walk up the lane. Which also has a tea room! Lovely walks in the Glen. The only thing to be wary of is the single track lane to access once you've passed the Chapel, but it's short and there is a passing place. One clean loo but no shower. 20 mins drive right into the city centre, 5 minutes to a range of supermarkets. What more could you want?

What a great site. We’d happily recommend and will, I hope, return there. Well located too.

Spent a week here in late Nov early Jan. Easy regular buses to Edinburgh centre, lots to see within easy car ride (eg Kelpies & Falkirk Wheel), Rosslyn Chapel is about 100 yards away! Good pub in the village (10 mins on foot) and very nice owners.

Motorhome waste water disposal at this site

Agree with all the good pointe in other reviews, BUT waste water disposal is sixty feet from the nearest access for a motorhome, and uphill, so unless you have a separate mobile tank, beware! Sign saying "please dispose of all grey water in chemical disposal point. Not in hedge CCTV in operation" Also no sign of any Covid-19 precautions -- no hand sanitiser, no QR code. No idea where the information room is -- we were not told on arrival. No welcome pack.

CL Experience at Slatebarns CL

CL Experience at Slatebarns My wife and I moved home recently and had never experienced any of the local CL campsite around our old living area of Penicuik, Midlothian. So with this in mind we then arranged to visit family back in the area and found a CL site at Roslin (Midlothian). WHAT A JOY!! A fantastic CL site. A great welcome from Robin, Moyra and the dogs. This is without doubt one of the best CLs we have visited. Close enough to all local amenities with a gastro pub, local post office, local shops including a small Mini Market & CO-OP. The Café and Pub are fantastic friendly hubs with great service and community spirit. Roslin Glen is a fantastic walk and dog friendly. Driving in you pass Rosslyn Chapel which is also well worth a visit. The coffee shop here serves a good coffee with some home baking on offer. Links to near-by Edinburgh attractions are very good from the village, Lothian Transport bus services are well detailed and so cheap, there is even a Night Bus running hourly all night. This is a lovely quiet site in a beautiful location and is well manicured. The owners keep the site in fantastic condition thinking of everything that is required on a CL site. A pleasure to be able to stay and support this CL. Robert & Gillian Meikle

Motorhomer - Great site for visiting Edinburgh

Peaceful and quiet to come back to after a long day in Edinburgh. 5 mins walk to 37 bus costing just £4.50 for an all day pass to go on as many buses as needed. Site has ample space for each of the visitors and great, easily accessible amenities. Perfect for us touring, three nights here to give us 2 full days out ending with a wonderful visit to Rosslyn Chapel between the site and the bus stop. Thank you, only touched on things we'd like to do so think we'll be back
