Good value for money and an ideal base.

Stayed here for a couple of nights as visiting family in Wakefield. After reading the other reviews we were open minded however we were pleasantly supprised. Pub on site did good food. Gordon was very helpful The boat owners were all friendly, and yes a couple of dogs roam, but they caused no issues with ours. We were on pitch two from the car park and as we were the only van, had mains water :) Didn't use the facilities so cant comment. Nice walks on the canal £13 per night. What more can you ask for. My only piece of advice. Do not use the entrance/exit furthest away from pub as your van will bottom out. Come in and go out including when just in your car by the entrance next to the pub

Nice tidy short term visit site

Great welcome by site manager and local boaters. Friendly wharf community. Good access to greenways and towpaths for cycling and walking. Surprising quiet at night. Don't be put off by the industrial estate as you drive in; it a little haven on the waterway.

Unusual site - well worth the visit!

Savile Town Wharf CL We had our 2nd stay at this little hidden gem of a CL this weekend - what a great little find it has been. The welcome is warm and the host, Gordon, is really helpful - as are the pub staff. There is a lovely towpath walk for the dogs, (I saw nesting swans there this morning). The coffee shop is not open as yet due to Covid staffing issues but that is worth a visit when open as is the pub which serves food and allows dogs on a lead in the bar area. Don't let the industrial area approach put you off - once on site you would not know it was there. Worth having a long water hose or a water as the standpipe may be a little way from your unit if you are at the end. We are visiting family in the area again in June and have booked this site for another two occasions.

Hidden oasis

What a wonderful little site, everything you need. Gordon came to welcome us, what a genuinely nice guy. Do not be put off by the approach (very industrial, but it is very near to town centre), once you turn into the Leggers Inn car park it's like your in a little hidden oasis. It's a lovely tranquil area, very quiet to say where it is situated. We will definitely be returning, great little getaway. Enjoyed a nice meal in the pub beer garden. The pub had outside music, but not too loud, it was nice to sit outside your camper and listen to it. Lovely walk along the canal, the area was very clean. Gordon..... we love your site, and will be returning soon. Thank you for letting us share your hidden oasis.

Noisy music from neighbouring pub. Owner nowhere to be found.

If the residents on the marina-boats hadn’t been outstandingly helpful, I’d have been lost. The owner had overbooked, he claimed he’d be there to ensure all was well when I arrived but he was absent. There was no pitch for me and I had to set up on rough ground. Lots of hookup sockets but they required prepaid key-cards, the boatmen helped as best they could, but it was far from ideal, electric hookup ran out of credit after 12 hours. Dogs roamed loose and not everyone cleared up after the dogs. The on-site pub played music from about noon till evening closing - fortunately they stopped at about 10.30 pm. The local walks along the canal were strewn with litter. There was no indication where grey water should go, no help from the owner. I’ve read some of the other reviews and I wish my experience was closer to theirs, but it’s not an experience I would want to repeat.

A little gem

I have just returned from this CL having spent 5 nights there so I think its fair to say that my review will be balanced. Like a lot of people I read the other reviews before visiting and it was apparent to me that some of the people leaving the reviews may have had a hidden agenda, I haven't got one so this is how I see it. The site is on a small wharf in Saville Town this in its hey day would have been an industrial complex dealing with deliveries by canal to the local industry,it still remains within an industrial complex but take it from me outside of 9x5 and especially at weekends its quiet. The facilities are fine plenty of fresh water and a chemical cleaning station situated at the far end of the carpark. Waste (grey water) is place into the bushes I have had this before on other sites nothing unusual there in my view. You share the facilities with other people using the wharf including those on their narrow boats, toilets and showers are provided in the adjacent pub. The pub (The Leggers) is first rate although having just come out of lockdown the menu was limited but is due to be revamped from June 1st. Within 15 minutes walk from the site you will be in countryside. I will bullet point the main items; The facilities are good and clean. The location is what it is. The staff and locals are so friendly. The surrounding countryside if you walk is lovely. Ignore the biased reviews and visit to make you own mind up. Gordon the owner is lovely and very approachable believe me all he wants is for you to have a good time. Would I return, yes without hesitation, the only word of caution I would use is manage your expectations, if you want utopia then go and pay £35 plus per night and then moan when you dont get it.

Better than expected

My first review, instigated by the rubbish written a while ago. Access through the old lock gates and the pub car park into gated site. Only boaters and campers this side of the marina. Owner welcoming and informative. Toilets at the pub are modern and clean. CW point also clean, and it has auto light and aircon. Hardstanding pitches a good size - view is of the boats or a grass embankment with single storey victorian bldg behind. Not overlooked unless you use binoculars! No Yobs of any colour in 6 days, only joggers, walkers and kids on bikes on the footpath over the other side of the marina. Pub has cask ales and a simple, inexpensive but tasty menu, with outside seating and kids play area. Coffee shop still closed by Covid. Only criticism is several dogs around and owners not good at picking up. Lots to do in the area and we will stay again

Nice site, baffled by past reviews

Stayed here over a bank holiday weekend and totally baffled by the bad reviews, we really liked it, its a bargain and a fab spot. Will certainly go back there again. We were relieved to read it was in an industrial estate as we knew that would mean easy access! If there were issues with the site they had been sorted by the time we got there. The view from the caravan onto the canal and boats was lovely! If you have a motor mover I recommend going in forward to make the most of the view! Shame the pub was still closed due to covid so cant comment on the impact that would have but overall the site was clean, tidy and relatively peaceful. Everyone we saw on our walks along the canal seemed friendly and would acknowledge us as we walked past. Only a small railing between the site and the canal so if you go with small children they would need watching closely. There was one jack russell from one of the canal boats that would roam around freely, it had no interest in us or our pitch but we were with a reactive dog so it was slightly annoying although we did not address that with the owner of the site as it was more of an issue with our dog than theirs. Gem of a site, look forward to going back.

Unique town centre CL

Just stayed for four nights on this CL. Warm welcome from Gordon with level hard standing pitches right by the canal basin overlooking the narrow boats. Excellent value for money including electric located near to Dewsbury town centre. Lovely safe walking via the canal tow paths into town or the countryside. Disappointed the pub and coffee shop was shut due to lockdown so did not experience the pub being open. Very nice stay and quiet overnight with most industrial units not operating in the evenings or overnight. Really enjoyed the location close to the canal including chatting with various boat owners. A few dogs around but no signs of dog poo problems. We will certainly return in the near future when the pub will be open.

Don’t believe the negative reviews

We have stayed on this site about 4 times and never once have we felt unsafe. You do have to drive through an industrial estate to get to the site but once there no problems with the site. Pub next door serves excellent meals for £6 the pie is excellent. The site is basic but what do you expect for £13 with EHU & toilets. I am a very light sleeper but have NEVER heard traffic noise so can’t understand that comment.Gordon was very friendly and helpful. Walks straight onto the canal bank or walk into town where there’s a good market. We will definitely return as we always do.
