Easy booking with prompt replies. On arrival no indication where to pitch.
Entrance through gate onto site needs some attention re potholes.
Site shared with canal berths so very open to all.
Barmaid told us all would be ok regards pitching and checking in.
Pub was welcoming but up 2 flights of stairs if you didn’t want to stay in beer garden.
Information board said last meal orders were 8 pm. Not so - they stopped serving 7.30 so don’t know about quality etc of food.
Nice location for Dewsbury and surrounding area.
Problem started when we tried to leave car park via exit. The caravan bottomed out and we were stuck halfway onto main road. A sign in car park (you have to go through it to enter site) would have been good since apparently this isn’t first time.
Make sure you leave via entrance to car park!!!
A surprising haven
Given that this site is in the midst of an urban area it offers a relative peaceful and charming stay. The owner; Gordon gave us a great welcome and the pub - The Leggers was most welcoming with excellent food and beer. Great value. The site is open with the benefit of the adjacent to the canal arm and moored boats with friendly owners. The site is surprising quiet given its location because the commercial neighbours are generally closed overnight. We would recommend this site to anyone wanting to be in the area for a night or two. We stayed here to visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park which is about half an hour away by road.
Not for us
Gordon the owner is lovely, gave us a lovely greeting on arrival and explained where everything is but unfortunately this site is definitely not for us.
The write up states it is picturesque marina, but to us it just looks tatty and rather run down and in need of a good tidy up.
Quiet - no this site is near an industrial site, there are cars, lorries, trucks and at times it sounds like a racing track especially when the cars speed by with their extremely noisy exhausts and loud thumping music blaring out. The pub on site plays music outside and it is loud and continues late in to the evening. No mention of this in the write up and if we had known we wouldn’t have booked.
10 min walk to town- yep that’s true but it’s through a litter strewn streets and when you get to the town centre it is not exactly a very welcoming place and to be honest if I had been on my own I don’t think I would have felt very safe.
Leggers Inn - didn’t even serve garlic bread and the young lady behind the bar didn’t know what a white wine spritzer was and obviously hadn’t made a bitter shandy before!!!
Sorry this place may suit some people but to us it was a huge disappointment and not on the list of places that we want to return to.
Great CL
Great little site with clean facilities. The hard standings were a bonus due to the wet weather.
Gordon the owner was very helpful and friendly.
The Leggers Inn served great food and was very dog friendly.
Hope to be back when next visiting family
Lovely overnight stay
Great little spot by the marina. Lovely pub and nice walk along canal with dog. We were uncertain where to book in when we arrived …. It’s is the pub…. The staff there were great and helpful. Nice beer in the pub and they are very dog friendly
Great stay
What a hidden gem.
Good little site with pub and cafe.
Toilet use too.
Electric and water.
Amazing breakfast.
All staff welcoming and cannot do enough for you.
Don’t want to boast too much as we want to be able to stay next time and hope it’s not full 🤣
Staying a second night, unplanned, so must be good.
Thank you to everyone.
We will be back.
One night stay
A lovely friendly welcome greeting. Right on the wharf at Savile Town. Smashing 3 mile canal walk to Horbury Bridge. Use of toilets in the adjacent pub from 7am or toilet on site. Also use of showers and laundry on the wharf.
A good stopover place if you want to be local
This is a nicer site than you might fear from the approach through the industrial estate, so stick with it; once you're in it's quite a pleasant canal-side location with residential streets on the opposite bank. Its facilities and general presentation are all you could expect for its price. The pub is nice, and all four staff that I came into contact with we're very helpful and friendly. Some might be disturbed by the occasional high-revving car in adjacent streets in the night.
Great local site
Gordon was so friendly and helpful.Site has all-out need and is a relaxing place amongst the narrow boats.Food in the pub was good and walksfor the dog.The one shower and toilets shared with marina users could be cleaner but all fine for a short stay especially if you have your own facilities. Will visit again
Lovely setting alongside the canal, peaceful and tidy with good food
At the Leggers Inn. Will definitely recommend. Excellent value for money. Gordon very friendly and welcoming.
Didn’t see a shared shower but didn’t ask whilst there .
