It's nice here just 1 little niggle.

First time here on the CL. No complaints whatsoever. There is 1 caravan here looks permanent and tatty. Also we thought this was Adults only? Apart from that it's beautiful here. Well worth the £16.00 pn. We haven't met the owners so we have left our fee in the letter box in the wooden hut.

Lovely little site

We have used this site fairly regular and it always pleases. Simple site with hook-up and water, well looked after. But the views are worth every penny, even though it rained a lot when we were there. Sites have a bit of a slope but nothing major. The entrance has more of a swing now which is better. We have a smallish van so bridge in Gressingham is no problem but take it slow. The ground at no time became muddy and the grass is kept reasonably short. Very easy booking and payments. Really handy for numerous trips out, we go to Leighton Moss RSPB site which is fairly close. Also Lancaster castle, and the 'Brief Encounter' cafe at Carnforth is worth a visit. We will be back again in future.

Peter & Mandy - A weekend in June 2023

Visited June 2023, fabulous CL site, we accessed with a 7.5m Laika A class motorhome, the approach road is single track with passing places, take your time, no issues, most pitches are sloping so ramps needed. Very tidy site and peaceful site, all the services you need on site. Spectacular views down the Lune Valley, the River Lune Ramble walk is a few minutes walk away with easy access to the River Lune down the track from the site entrance, lots of other walking options in the area. 2023 price £16 with EHU, whats not to like 👌

Conflicting information

We booked through CL Booking. On the CL Booking website, the site is described as adults only and £14 per night. On arrival we found a family with children on the site (who were very well behaved fortunately). We also found that the site was quoting £16 per night on its notice board and on the CAMC site. The pitches would benefit from levelling, it would be difficult to put up an awning on most of the pitches. The site has nice views across the Lune but access is down a single track road that is in poor condition in places. We met a HGV coming the other way on arrival and we are grateful that the driver was willing and able to reverse down the road to let us onto the site. Unfortunately when we were leaving we met a van driver coming the other way who was intent on squeezing past us. We prefer to book adult only sites only because our dogs can get quite excited around children and we don't want to have to keep our dogs cooped up inside our van. I am not too concerned about the extra £6 we paid for the stay, I just think that the owners should ensure that if they are going to put their CL on CL Booking, they should ensure that the information they provide is accurate and consistent with the information on the CAMC site. We did not see the owner at all during our stay. TV reception would be better described as non-existent rather than fair. Again, not a massive issue but some people may be disappointed if they were expecting to keep up with their soaps while there.

New owners need to give a little TLC

We arrived on site on a glorious sunny day in early July. The pitches on site are a bit of a challenge and really need levelling. We have a caravan and the only pitches which were suitable for an awning were on the right hand side, which meant we were not able to take advantage of the fabulous views down the Lune valley. Plenty of taps and disposal grids for grey water. We eventually saw the owner when I walked up to the farm to make payment, a visit to us whilst we were on site would have been nicer. The road to the site is essentially only used by farm traffic so apart from tractors and the odd lorry, it was very quiet. The instructions in the 2021/22 book were misleading (never found the Lune Valley Smokehouse and the new owner of the site didn't know where it was either!), but hopefully the new young owners will correct this.

Peaceful and secluded

We booked this site for a long weekend via CL Bookings (Facebook Group) I had a separate short correspondence with Frances Conder before we arrived. In spite of being on site for 3 nights we didn't see or hear from Mark & Frances Conder during our stay, which didn't bother us particularly except that we normally see owners at least once during a stay. The site could do with a bit of TLC in terms of grass cutting and weed control on the pitches. I appreciate that we were at the height of the growing season but if it was previously immaculate (as the photos show) it is not at present. We have an 8m twin axle van towed by a Landrover Discovery and found the access to be "tight", The left turn, immediately over the narrow bridge was a tight turn and entry to the field required manoeuvring and a slight off road to avoid the gate posts. Leaving the field was better but crossing the bridge back to Gressingham required more manoeuvring. If your van is "wide" (not standard width) and a long then be aware that you may damage your pride and joy. All that said, the site is in a beautiful location with lots of cycling around about (be aware of tractors hurtling along the lanes) trips further afield to Arnside/Silverdale/Blackpool and Morecambe are all doable,

Lovely peaceful site

My wife and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago for a long weekend and we were very impressed with it. The new owner has kept the site tidy and has made access very easy by widening the turning area near the gate. We used our wooden blocks under the front to get the caravan level, and found the water and electric to be near to the pitch. The views of the river and valley are excellent and we had three very peaceful and quiet nights stay. We used the site as a base for Silverdale and Morecambe. We are ready to book our return.

Well maintained site in a lovely location

Change of CL owner 2021. New owner is maintaining the extremely high standards of the previous owner. Extremely well-maintained site (they have contractors to cut the grass – I’ve not seen that before on a CL). All pitches have their own grey water grid. There’s a choice of four pitches on the left side and two on another (they only ever had 5 occupied when we were there). There are water supplies between the pitches so not quite enough for one per pitch which means not everyone can connect directly if you’re sharing the tap with your neighbour, but it’s still much better than one shared tap for the whole CL. The first pitch on the left has a spectacular view. The view gets more restricted the further into the CL you go. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Great base to explore the Forest of Bowland. I’d last visited the area 50 years ago and one of our party 70 years ago. We’d forgotten how nice it is and will definitely come back to this area. The main problem with the CL is the pitches are all sloping which can be a challenge for motorhomes. There is a turning circle at the end of the CL which is useful for manoeuvring. Access is down a long narrow lane which starts with a reasonably tight turn over a narrow bridge. We’re used to getting to secluded sites so wasn’t a problem. Two of the vans on the CL were large double axle so despite the narrow lane this is accessible to large outfits. One of the reasons we had chosen this CL was to walk sections of the Lune Valley Ramble footpath which is adjacent to the CL and follows the River Lune. Unfortunately, a section to the north of the CL was so muddy (over a foot deep because of cattle making their way to the river and back) we got stuck in the mud and had to abandon it and a section a mile south of the CL was so overgrown we couldn’t get through it. We explored all the footpaths in the area and some others were also too overgrown. I guess these problems wouldn’t happen at other times of the year. This is no fault of the CL owners.

Lovely little site

Great little site, fabulous views over the Lune and an ideal base for walking and cycling from. Access is by single track road but found this no problem at all. Great to have EHU, water and grey waste disposal on each pitch. Really enjoyed our short break and had a fantastic cycle ride along all the little back lanes to Kirkby Lonsdale.

Lovely site

Just returned from a 5 night stay and really enjoyed it. As previously mentioned by others it is a single track road to the site but we didn’t have any issues. Unfortunately we didn’t meet the owner (due to illness) and eventually paid by Bacs, this was not an issue at all as aware they were was just a phone call away but it would have been nice to meet them. The pitches, particularly on the left side, are sloping and uneven. We were in a Motorhome with a levelling system which helped - caravans didn’t appear to have the same issues The views are amazing and the sight is very peaceful which was lovely and just what we needed. Everything you need in respect of Elsan point, grey waste and recycling. Great value for money and will return
