We were fortunate to find a vacancy for the night we needed. It's small but beautifully kept and well managed with friendly hosts. What more do you want in a CL?
Highly recommended.
What a lovely, absolutely immaculate CL with amazing views across the fields and of the Abbey. This was our first time at this site and we were so impressed we just had to book for another visit later in the year. Great location for walking into Whitby, the Abbey and of course the Brewery. Or out of the back gate and across the field to get to Sainsbury's, Aldi and an Iceland store and also a bakers. Easy access to the Cleveland Way coastal path and to Robin Hoods Bay. One of my absolute favourites is Falling Foss (waterfalls) which is only 10 minutes by car and then a fantastic walk through the woods and a coffee shop in the woods with brilliant bacon butties.
If anybody goes into Whitby for the fish and chips, Trenches was fantastic. A lovely weekend at an amzing site, run by lovely people to top it off. What more could anybody ask for.😀
We stayed here for 4 nights in February. Great little CL that has 3 pitches, hard standing in winter and grass in summer. Amazing views of Whitby and the Abbey. Easy access to the coast path to Whitby in one direction and Robin Hoods Bay in the other. Facilities include grey waste, Elsan disposal, fresh water and EHU (10 units per night - more than enough) All facilities spotless. Excellent communication from Jo. Would highly recommend!
we was greeted with a warm and friendly welcome the site was very clean and well run everything we needed was their we couldn't ask for more hope to be back very soon very happy campers Kavan andPaula oh and the views were great too
From the first contact to the end, this was a perfect stay. Jo was a treasure to deal with and contact was brilliant. Our pitch was allocated, so that takes the stress away from wondering. We were given the hardstanding (pitch 3) which was great for our large motorhome. Because its a small site (3 units) its very peaceful. The views are astounding.. across open fields to Whitby Abbey clearly visible from all pitches. The cleveland coastal path is easily accessible and the owners are happy to explain the best footpaths. We walked in both directions, to Whitby and towards Robin Hoods Bay ( although we didnt actually make it all the way to Robin Hoods Bay). Of course sunny weather makes a big difference, and we were very lucky.
Finding the ‘monks trod’ to the Abbey was a treat .. thankyou Jo for explaining.
Price includes 10 units of electricity per day, and we didnt need to use any extra. The waste areas were spotless. All in all a gem of a CL.
We ate our Whitby fish and chips at the Fishermans Wife. A takeaway on their terrace. They were fabulous !
Quiet, great views, ( sea, Whitby and Abbey, hills, valleys) well maintained, clean. Spotless.
30 minute casual stroll to Whitby via Abbey and 199 steps.
Public footpath over the road that leads to cliffs for a more scenic route to Whitby. (Views are fantastic. Walked cliff top route every day).
Public footpath at edge of site is shortcut to Aldi, B&M's & Sainsburys. (15-20 mins).
We preferred to walked into Whitby and catch bus back. Bus stops at Station House which is 15-20 minutes casual stroll from site. ( bus every 30 mins)
We would have liked to extend our stay but they were fully booked up from Wednesday.
Can't wait to go back. I'm picturing us sat outside the motorhome just looking down on the Abbey and Whitby chilling.
See you soon Jo n Stu.
Just back from our first visit… not local for us as we are Essex based… but can’t wait to return. We were on pitch 3 and sat eating our breakfast looking across to the Abbey. Communication with the host Jo was perfect and she was so welcoming upon arrival. The facilities are pristine … you could eat out of the chemical loo point … clearly not advisable but you get what I mean 🤪. The walk to Abbey is 30 mins at slow pace along the road and we had fish and chips from the Magpie Cafe in the harbour … Definitely the best fish and chips we have ever eaten …
Tempted to give a shocking review just to keep it to ourselves 😜
A wonderful, immaculate CL about a mile south of Whitby Abbey and Whitby Micro Brewery. A CL so good you almost want to keep it to yourself.
Excellent location for walkers with access to coastal path. We explored from Staithes to Robin Hoods Bay on foot, using frequent public transport from Whitby to Staithes and Runswick Bay in order to walk back to the site.
Whitby is interesting for a variety of reasons, something to suit everyone and about a 1.5 mile walk away You can either go down the 199 Abbey steps or Caedmon's Trod footpath. It is also possible to drive into Whitby.
There is a footpath through fields from the site and within 20 minutes walk you can reach a small retail park which has Aldi, Iceland and Sainsbury's and a few hundred yards further up, the famous local bakery Botham's have a small shop where you can buy their delicious breads, cakes and pastries as well as takeaway coffee and tea.
The CL owners Jo and Stu couldn't be more helpful and friendly. They will suggest walks and how to get to places as well as providing a wealth of local information in the Info Shed.
It was our first visit but can't wait to return. If only it wasn't so far from home we would be making regular visits but 300+ miles is a little too far for a short break!
We spent 2 nights nights here in our motorhome. Great host and the best (and cleanest) chemical loo disposal point I have ever seen! Marvellous access to the coastal path along local bridleways and footpaths, clearly marked out on maps provided in the info shed. In an area of quite a few mass mobile home and touring sites, this is a gem that we hope to get to again in the future. Many thanks
