Never tire of Overwater

We've just come home from our 3rd visit to Overwater and I've booked already for next Easter. I will never tire of this site, the ambience, the welcome, highly maintained facilities, great cafe and beautiful setting. We stayed on the CL as usual although their main site did appear to be slightly quieter than Easter last year. The relentless winter rains have left all grass areas around the site boggy, proper squelchy slippy mud in parts but all sites we've visited over the last 4 months up and down the country have been the same. The site forewarned us before arriving of a local road closure affecting access to the site but included diversion details for us to follow. The EHU bollards within the CL have been recently upgraded so no more long cable required, our shorter one was perfect and again much appreciated due to the waterlogged condition of the grass. The picnic bench alongside each pitch went unused however due to inclement weather and ground conditions. Facilities 5* in our opinion. This is a very easy site to chill and while away the hours or as a base for exploring the wider area. The reception staff were warm and welcoming and the small shop within reception had plenty of basic supplies as well as very nice local biscuits / treats. Have already booked for next Easter and am already looking forward to it.

Could be perfect

This is a lovely CL but could be better as it’s let down by a couple of things. The hard standing pitches are not wide enough to take the caravan and awning so if you need to use an awning it is half way on the grass, which in November was just ankle deep mud & because you set up with the caravan as close to the left to try and fit the awning on you’re needing to wade through the mud for water, waste & loo. The other downside is the CL pitches are next to the driveway for the other caravan pitches, cafe & marina and the speed that some people go past is worrying. Moan over besides these issues the site would be perfect and even better if the pitches where serviced.

Excellent

We can only agree with all the other reviews left previously. Arrived and had a very friendly and informative welcome from the reception. The facilities offered were excellent, shop and cafe onsite was a bonus. Good towpath to walk on to the local village, enjoyed watching the narrowboats moving through the locks, very friendly people on and off the site. Our only gripe is that we only booked for two nights instead of five!

almost perfect

the CL is the first set of pitches you come to on entering the Marina gate, you book your designated pitch so set up & let reception know you have arrived, a couple of site plans given when checking in. The pitches are very generous with plenty of grass around the h/s and a picnic table for each pitch, but bear in mind you need very long ehu leads on some of the pitches, There is a separate touring park further into the marina, which has been extended to include a seasonal area with some glamping lodges. Facilities include showers/toilets, a dishwashing sink, a dog wash area & an automatic black waste cassette cleaner. There is also a cafe on site. Access to the canal is via farm track at top of site, about 40 mins to reach Audlum along the towpath, 2 pubs on the wharf, we had a fabulous meal in the Shroppie Fly, the village itself is pretty with a few independent shops, butchers post office & a small Co-op, if you carry on up the flight of Audlem locks, its about an hour and 10 mins from the site. The opposite direction you can walk to Nantwich, around 5 miles. the nearest bus stop is in Audlum, so we walked in and got the bus back, bear in mind its then another 40 min walk along towpath back to the marina. There is a local bus service you can book to collect you from the marina but it doesnt accept dogs other than assistance dogs. Its a lovely area, quite busy with all the canal boats and there is a boat repair area so the tractor is out first think manoeuvring boats. Bear in mind as the CL is right by the entrance all site traffic will pass by including all the delivery lorries for the cafe, parcel delivery vans & supermarket delivery vans, I suppose we noticed it more as we had just come off an extremely quiet CL in the country but it wouldnt put us off returning

A perfect Easter!

Our 2nd stay here at Overwater and can't praise the site and its staff and fellow holiday makers enough for the special ambience felt around this site. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast on site and a few walks around the site looking at the narrow boats and the geese, swans, ducks and other wildfowl, even spotted a heron. We stayed on the CL, the pitches are more than adequate, long ehu leads required however. The small commercial site was beautifully maintained as were the spotless facilities which are available to use by all staying on site. There are also electric car charging points and a dog wash. Lots of seating around the marina itself, nothing better than a gentle amble and then a sit down to watch the world go by. The Audlem Lass boat service was running from the site into the village, all monies go to charity I believe. Well stocked shop at reception and the on site cafe serves fabulous home cooked fayre. We had Sunday lunch at the Bridge Inn in Audlem. Very pleased with the price, service and quality of our roast dinner. We have already booked again at Overwater Marina for next Easter.

About 1/2 hrs from the M6 for an overnight stay very easy to pre- book and choose a pitch on line so an easy arrival. Impressive facilities on a very large immaculate site with a nice cafe too.

Wish we could have stayed longer!

We loved this CL and could have easily stayed longer. The CL pitches are spacious with individual picnic tables and nice views. It is an easy walk along the canal towpath into Audlem, which is a lovely village to explore. We enjoyed our breakfast in the marina cafe and also had coffee at one of their outside tables overlooking the canal. It was very peaceful and relaxing watching the boating activity.

Great Stay

Great pitches, well maintained and easy access. the café is nice and servers a good B/fast. Audlem is an easy 10/15 min walk down the tow path. that was my only issue is it was bit of an issue getting across the canal needing codes to get through the marina gates. shame there is not a bridge by the Café. the shop is basic but well stocked. shower blocks are very clean as is the whole site. Recommended site and we are going back later in the year.

Perfect

We arrived and pitched on our chosen CL pitch 5. Whilst it was perfectly adequate, we have booked again and chosen another pitch as the other 4 are further away from the road and whilst the road isn't busy, on pitch 5 you can hear every car go past. Pitch 5 appeared to be the smallest of the pitches also and slightly sloping so levelling ramps needed. A picnic bench is provided for each pitch and there is lots of space in between pitches. Pitch 5, gravel on hard standing was brutal underfoot if you only have thin soles. The whole site is maintained to the highest standard from the marina itself, to the reception area and cafe aswell as the CL and small commercial caravan park. The facilities were spotless and ample for all users. A big thank you for providing individual washroom/wetroom facilities which incorporated a great sized shower, toilet and sink and plenty of hooks for hanging your belongings. Sadly, the shower was push button operated but you can't have everything and I do understand why!! Plenty of walks within the marina complex and caravan site and easy access onto canal. Audlem village was quaint, friendly and very useful for shopping if needed. We walked along the canal and it took around 30 mins. We weren't rushing and it was interesting to see narrow boats navigating the locks. This site within a marina offers the perfect get away for quiet time and opportunity to unwind. The lifestyle of narrowboating and that of caravanning / motorhoming sat beautifully hand in hand on this site and created a lovely ambience. We have arrived home today after a 3 night stay and have already rebooked.

Short Stop on the way home

This was the last stop on an eight site tour. The CL is situated on the road into the marina. The five pitches have quite long narrow hardstanding but there is plenty of space for awnings on the adjacent grass. Each pitch has its own picnic table which is a nice touch. EHU is at the back of the pitches and some might require a long cable. There is a handy fresh water tap across the road from the pitches. The instruction for the CL is to allow grey water to drain into the hedge at the rear. Having said that you are free to use the main campsite facilities which are not far from the CL pitches. Likewise you can use the site toilet block and excellent motorhome waste point. The reception building houses the shop which has a variety of basic food items and also caravan/boating accessories including gas. There is also a nice cafe either for coffee and cake or perhaps a full English! The site has free WiFi and the 4G signal is pretty good if you prefer that method of connection. The Marina/CL is on the opposite side of the Shropshire Union Canal from the towpath but there is access via a bridge and from there you can walk along the canal to Audlem which has pubs and a Co-Op. Pitch fees are for unit and two persons, for children over five and extra adults there is an additional charge. Payment is taken on booking.
