Site OK

The site is OK. We had hard-standing which is of poor quality and turns into a slimey mess when wet. Pitch 1 is directly in front of the service area and there is a constant intrusion of people approaching around every side of the caravan. This is the first time we have had concerns in over 30 years of caravanning.

Comment from The Caravan Club:

Thank you for leaving a review. The CL owner and CL Adviser have both been in touch as they wish to respond to the concerns you raised in the review.

The CL Adviser has checked the hard-standing pitches and these are all in good condition and should not be affected by wet weather.  You can also see from previous reviews that other members have praised the hard-standing pitches so we are sorry they did not meet your expectations.

We confirm that the service area is behind Pitch 1.  The CL has been running for many years and the facilities have always been positioned in the same place.  It is important that cars are not parked in front of the service area and if this happens, access to the facilities would be more difficult and may cause a feeling that other Members were perhaps ‘intruding’ whilst using the service point.  Pitching of vehicles is something that the CL owners are happy to give advice on so that this does not happen.

As you can see from the pictures of the site the pitches are well spaced and in a beautiful setting that many people enjoy staying time and time again.

Great base for coastal walking.

Just had 9 nights here from 9th April 2015. Great facilities and hard standing.  The best bit is it is so near the A590 meaning it is great for getting about South Lakeland.  We walked the end of the Lancashire Coastal Way from Carnforth and the Cumbria Coastal Way to Walney.  Use A590 east to Lindale then B road direct to Grange station. About 8 free car parking spots right outside station if early (PM you will have to be lucky).  Used train Carnforth/Arnside/Grange/Kents Bank/Cark and Ulverston to walk the coast path.  X6 bus also useful and No.11 from Barrow to Ulverston on coast road. None walking days - plenty National Trust places - Fell Foot Park just down the road as is steam train and Lake Winermere cruises.  Cumbria coast railway - brilliant! As I said great base.

One of the best.

Just returned from a seven night stay at this delightful C/L. It was our first visit but will certainly not be our last. There is some road noise but it is not obtrusive and we soon ceased to notice it. The owners are very friendly, keeping a low profile but there when you need help or advice. Good walks from the site and easy access to other parts of the Lake District by car.

Nice site/noisy road

Easy to get to off the main road, especially for large outfits. Spacious pitch, walked to fell foot park from the site. Handy to visit south lakes area. Only problem was the traffic noise which was constant from about 4am in the morning and road is close by.  No view from pitch as it faced a grassy hill.

Great location

A lovely quiet and friendly CL site with good size level pitches. It was close to the main road but you soon got used to the traffic noise. Some good quiet cycle routes close by and excellent base for touring the South Lakes. Will definitely visit again.

March Visit

A fine Cl with 5 hardstanding pitches and easy access. Although it is close to the A590 the traffic noise was not disruptive. It is a good centre from which to visit the South Lakes and the Carmel/Grange area. There is no pub within walking distance, but a couple within 5 mins drive. There are a number of good dog walks close by, especially in Staveley Woods. The nearest large supermarkets are a Co-op at Grange, Booths at UIlverston and Asda & Morrisons in Kendal. Although we live less than 20 mls away we will definitely use this site again.

Wifes birthday

This was our first visit to this CL and chose it against using the club site after seeing it in the club magazine. We were not disappointed by the ease of access, we have a 26ft twin axle, side to side level pitches and the beauty around us. For those like us with larger units pitches four and five are better suited with pitch two quite short. Ok the service point is at the rear of pitch one but the water was a good pressure for filling up the Aquaroll and the owners make sure all pipes are well lagged. Yes there is road noise but not that much that it invaded our enjoyment Without doubt one to return to, just a note to other members that the price increases through the winter months

December break

This was our first visit to this CL and overall we rank it as one of the best CLs we have stayed on.The extra large hard standings were a real blessing, visiting in the first week of December when any rain just made grass soft and muddy, it meant that the car and caravan were on sound ground. The owners take pride in the site which is evident by its overall neatness and cleanliness, even the bins were cleared each day. Yes there is traffic noise, yes the facilities are behind pitch 1 but these points did not devalue the site as far as we were concerned. Would we come back--certainly when we are next in this area.

Ideal base for exploring South Lakes district

We really enjoyed our stay at old barn and will certainly return. We do agree that facilities are in the wrong place behind pitch 1, which is the pitch that we had. We did find this pitch small for our outfit (approx 21ft) & awning. Owners made us feel very welcome on our arrival. If you have larger outfit I would suggest pitch 3,4 or 5. There is plenty to see and do including lakeside steam railway, Lakeland motor museum,Ulverston, Coniston, Bowness on Windermere, Ambleside and Cartmel all within an easy drive. We certainly didn't have the best of weather (heavy rain, thunder & lighting & strong winds) but we still enjoyed our stay.

ENJOYED---BUT

Had a pleasant stay as there was plenty to do & see in the area. There was a couple of issues that slightly spoiled the stay on the site. The facilities are in the wrong place just behind pitch no1. Every time you use the facilities you feel as though you are encroaching on their space especially when they are in the caravan. The road noise for us was a big issue.
