Beautiful CL

This CL really is a case of don't believe everything you read! The site is beautifully maintained, access is good and the farmer and his wife both welcoming and accommodating. We will definitely be coming back next time we visit Norfolk.

Lovely CL

We stayed here for 4 nights after the May bank holiday weekend and had a lovely break. The site is in a fantastic location, the pitches are a good size, well marked and with plenty of space to set up and access is easy and straight forward, you just have to take it a little steady down the farm road. The owners are very nice but prefer to leave you alone which we were happy with and is not disimilar from other CLs we have stayed on. The only thing here is that the owners preference for payment differs from the instructions in the Caravan Club handook, in fact they operate a money through the letterbox system. We will definately be coming back, in fact we are returning in a couple of weeks time!

Room for improvement.

The only indication that we may be in the right place was a Caravan club CL sign on the verge opposite an unmarked entrance to an uneven and unfriendly driveway, it was only after reaching the site that another member confirmed that we had infact arrived at Northgate Hall farm. The allocated area was spacious and the facilities were well laid out and obvious. It is a 1 mile, off road, walk from the site to join the Norfolk Coast Path and a further 2 miles following it into Wells Next to the Sea. Locals told us that the Coast Hopper buses stop outside the entrance to the drive if requested but we did not get the opportunity of putting this action to the test. We, like the other reviewers, were taken aback by the apparent disinterest of the owners. The instructions in the handbook clearly state “pitch and owner will call” which suggests a hands on approach, they never did, so we, and others, went looking for them in order to pay our site fees. On the last day and the third attempt we were successful. The installation of an honesty box would overcome this irritating problem. April 2013

Great LocalPlacesOfInterest

Like all sites this CL has it plus and minus points. The owners have very hands off approach. This may suit some members. The location is great. There is loads of space. The horses are nice to visit. There are plenty of areas to exercise dogs. We visited in late September when the weather was 'dampish' but the site was firm and dry. The lane to the site is long and bumpy but driving at 10 mph will be fine. Everything on site is well laid out and easy to find. The price quoted here on the CClub web page is £10 but the price is really £12. The only big problem which is why I give only one tick for peace and tranquillity. One day the farm was burning some rubbish. The smoke from this managed to settle in the CL area. As there was no wind it lingered all night. The rather nasty smell from this kept me awake all night, if I was an asthma sufferer I think I would have had some problems. I do hope the owners read the reviews because I believe that with a few adjustments this would be a really great CL site. I will return in 2013 and give it another go as we have a lot more to do in the north Norfolk area.

Sadly a very poor CL

We love CL sites and use them in preference to club sites. So it with sadness that I find myself writing this review. However, I genuinely felt that here was a business, for that is what it is, that has no interest in its customers at all. It seems as if the owners have taken a view that the location in a wonderful part of the country is all they need to provide. If it was possible to score 0 I would have done! The site is accessed via a half mile very potted and bumpy track made worse by heavy rain during our visit. The track then leads through the farm yard which is in constant use, as one would expect, by the farm equipment. As a consequence this area becomes a quagmire when wet. The CL would appear to be in the wrong field since one has to access it through the yard. The instructions state "pitch van and owner will cal"l; normal on many CLs except, in this case the owner did not call! Not a shred of interest in our wellbeing was evident. On day three it became obvious that the chemical loo emptying point was nearly overflowing. We rang the owner as, intially unbeknown to us, so too had the owners of the other two vans on site, with the first call made at lunchtime. All of us were put through to an answering machine. No communication came back to any of us that day. Next morning my wife and I walked to the farmhouse since the problem had not been attended to and we knew that we would have to leave if nothing was done. We were told that it would be sorted by lunchtime and to be fair it was. However, we had to do all the communicating! The owner even informed us that he did not know it needed pumping out! Unsurprising, when such little interest was shown in our stay. If the owner reads this I would give this advice. 1. Visit other CLs and find out how it is done! 2. Sort out the drive and access. 3. Welcome your guests and be a visible host. 4. Look after the facilities. We will not be back; the first time we have ever said this about any CL!
