In need of some loving care

Visited in early June 2024 - motorhome The site is well positioned for access to Wells-next-the-Sea and nearby places of interest. However... The site itself could be so much better with a little extra attention. It's a huge site so there is plenty of space but the grass is too long and the untrimmed hedges make it look very uncared for. The water tap (as others have mentioned) looked so suspicious (green fungus growing up the outside of the pipework) that we chose not to use it at all. The entrance (there seems to be three) that we chose was very potholed - we left by the driveway onto Stiffkey road, which was a bit better.

Shocking!

May 3rd 2024 Pros: peaceful site. Cons: The Elsan was appalling. A wooden cover revealed human waste with flies buzzing around. Having visited over 34 CL sites this is by far the worst we've seen. Nothing was draining. When it's 30 degrees plus in the summer the stench will be horrendous. The drinking tap pipe was covered in green slime and algae - a string of slime was hanging form the tap pipe - revolting. The grass/weeds were far too long with dandelion seeds flying everywhere (our dog was covered in them!) This site is not worth £25 per night - we should have been paid that to stay there! We will not be returning.

Could be so much better

What a disappointment when we arrived for our 7 night stay. The grass was 12 inches high and the site felt generally uncared for. The stand pipe for the water was disgusting as “something” had been allowed to grow on the outside of the pipe. The grass was eventually “hacked down” over a period of 4-5 days but this left loose grass everywhere which stuck to ourselves and our dog. Like other people have mentioned there was no contact made with us from the site owners for our entire stay (other than a text acknowledging our payment) and no apology for the poor state of the site. It is such a shame as the site is in a lovely quiet location with nice views and could be so much better.

Wonderful Autumn

We stayed for 5 nights on this site. The booking at payment was all done via email/ BACS. We didn’t actually get to meet the owners at all. Not a problem for us but a greeting at some point during our stay is always nice. We found the location of the CL ideal for our holiday, with easy access to public footpaths and excellent for cycling down quiet country lanes. The site itself has lovely views and is very spacious, we enjoyed watching the wildlife, including a regular visit from some Red Kite. We have been using CL’s for the last 25yrs and this one could be added to our favourites list but in our opinion it does need a little TLC. The drive has a few potholes, the area around the Elsan point needs an upgrade and the grass in the field was ready for a trim. It wouldn’t put us off returning but did feel, that even given rising fuel costs £25 a night was a bit steep for what was on offer.

Sloping traffic-free site with adequate facilities. Walkable to Wells.

It took a while for the owner to respond to my email to book, and I did not meet with them during my stay. I was required to make a 50% deposit. Instructions said to pay the balance by cash, but bank transfer is also accepted. BEWARE! Signage for the camping field is lacking if coming off Stiffkey Road so we whizzed by towards a pitched caravan in front of us only to find that was not the actual site! Luckily I have a smallish van so could do a 180 turn. The field is sloping, so level ups are advisable. Facilities are adequate, but the toilet disposal is muddy when wet. There was limited information at the site. Good access to the Peddar's Way, taking @ an hour to walk to Wells, and good access to Blakeney and Cley.

Great site

This is a great site, simple field up the track from the main farm, which is a working farm so lots of tractor activity and horses in most of the paddocks, facilities are simple, but its a CL so you expect that, the views are very pleasant and the site is peaceful and quiet. We booked last minute as we had been very disappointed at the site we originally booked and Kirsty was really helpful and friendly. No she doesn't come say hello every morning but we would not really appreciate that anyway. But when we saw her in the farm yard she was bright and friendly. Walks from the site for our dogs were spot on and access to the coast path is honestly direct from site. great pub food and drink in the village, 10 min walk and Well down the road or a 30 min walk along the coast path. Its a simple site very picturesque and your left to get on with your stay, perfect. Thank you Kirsty see you again soon.

Fantastic, Quite CL site

Just spent a week on this lovely site, absolutely no traffic noise. Great pub about 1/2 mile down country lane from back entrance. Traffic free walk ( we took the push bikes) to Wells via coast path directly opposite drive entrance. Back lane route to Holkham estate. Lots of lovely little villages. Great for walking and bicycles. North Norfolk coastline is just stunning.

Very peaceful apart from the resident Tawny owl.

Just arrived home from one of our many visits. We had the field to ourselves( where is everyone). Great walks direct from the site and dog friendly. It’s a busy working farm with lots of horses about. Kirsty tends to let you alone to get on with your holiday, but there’s usually someone about if you need help.

Lovely setting

Just back from a 3 week stay, lovely dog walks from site and easy to walk to coast path and head to Wells or Stiffkey. Owl visited every night. Pub just down the road which is dog friendly and good food. Will be looking forward to visiting again next year.

Peaceful and Scenic.

We booked this site 4 days in advance ( 2 pitches) and owner very friendly and said just turn up and she will accommodate us in field as no space on CL. That was fine, we are self sufficient with no need for EHU. We had a bit of confusion on arrival as not sure where to go but quick chat with owner and we were accommodated in CL alongside 2 others. We left the money as instructed, at the house and did not see the owner, which was fine. The field is approached via a bumpy track so take it slowly! The site is well kept with short grass and has EHU and water / waste disposal. There are big bins on site for both recycling and non recycling. Dog walks are all around directly from site. The site is very quiet at night and the only sounds we heard were the nearby owls! It is not far from the coast road with easy access to beach/ harbour resorts. The site could be improved by maintaining the area for toilet waste disposal. It is not the most pleasant job; it has a manhole cover and area to stand is surrounded by nettles/weeds, which doesn't make it any easier! A regular strim round would be very helpful. This is a nice quiet farm site with lovely rural views
