Gem of High Peak

Wonderful scenery and a warm welcome from the Wardens who worked tirelessly the whole week-end keeping the site in pristine condition. The town is full of interesting views at every turn. The shops are quaint and the pubs are friendly. We'll be back!

All been said

Not a lot to add to previous reviews to be fair, clean, tidy, easy to find, very welcoming wardens, not sure on the pink hair if i am honest but that said, local knowledge was really helpful, yes the beehive is good for beer as is the Soldier Dick and the Indian restaurant in new mills, possibly our new found bolt hole! Thanks

First CL!

This was our first ever CL Site. Pete met me and pointed out where to park and advised on all the facilities. He advised on the local amenities and suggested the Beehive pub for a pint of the local brewery beer. All on site facilities were excellent and very clean/close. There was no clock watching regarding departure time which made our stay more enjoyable as we had a little more time to explore the area. We are most definitely going to re-book and will recommend this site to our friends Thanks! Paul Clover

Well Worth a Visit

We have stayed at this site in our motorhome a number of times and have always enjoyed our stay. The site has a gravel surface so good in all weathers.  We needed to do a bit of levelling but that depends on where you park. Heather and Pete are excellent wardens and you will always get a friendly welcome.  There are 2 shower rooms with wc in each and are always spotless. The town is a short walk away and there is a view over the moored barges of the hills beyond. We stayed here for xmas and New Year but had to nip back home for a day before returning.  Sadly the site fee had increased from £15 per day to £17.50.  I feel that this is a big increase and therefore won't be staying here as often nor for as long.  Maybe other CL's will have as large an increase but that is something I will have to check out.

Best CL Site we've visited so far.

Welcomed on arrival by Pete and Heather. Excellent clean facilities on site. Picturesque views of canal and Derbyshire high peak. Great walks along the canal, well worth visiting the Soldier Dick pub (superb food and Sunday lunch) about 30 mins walk to bridge no 31. Will definitely recommend to friends and return again ourselves.

Great site

Pete the boatyard caretaker was on hand on our arrival and showed us around the site, everything was as detailed and the facilities were second to none like the larger caravan club sites. Although just in the town it was peaceful and quiet and just a short walk along the canal you were in the countryside. The pub down the road is great because it is still a pub and does not do food. Had a great stay and will return next year

A little treasure

SmileWe have just returned and what a fab site. Wardens were absolutely lovely couldn't do more for you. Walks along the canal are amazing. The village/town and the locals made us really welcome. The residents on the long boats were lovely and told amazing stories. We have caravanned for 28 years and it is only the last few years we have used CL sites for long stays and most have been ok but this is very good. We will be back.

Excellent

Recently had a three night stay and will definitely be back. The site is excellent for either sitting in peaceful surroundings with great views, or exploring the area with lots of walks and history. A must for eating and a good pint is the Lamb Inn at Chinley.  Having passed through New Mills many times don't let pre conceptions put you off.

Almost five star

The site is in New Mills, not Chapel en le Frith. It is up to the high standards set by Pridewater Estates. Easy access, hard standing, two family rooms for toilet and shower - one doubling as a disabled room.  Has only been open for seven months so there is some bedding in still required. However, as the site matures, I confidently expect to give it 5 stars when I visit again. You can sit and watch the canal boats go by - usually morning and evening. There is an excellent chip shop less than ten minutes walk away. Pub grub is limited in the town itself but available at several establishments within a brisk two mile walk. A wonderful base for walking. Take your hiking boots but be warned, there is little flat terrain and the hills can be steep.  New Mills hosts two railways stations with excellent services to Manchester, Sheffield and Buxton. Both stations are within a mile, one just around the corner and the other down and then up a steep hill! There is also an excellent bus service to the main conurbations and other local towns with services from outside the site and from the bus station less than a mile away. Local Co-op supermarket, and several convenience stores one of which is a five minute walk away.

A little gem

Visited in June 15 - our first experience of a CL site and what a great choice. Just completed, the facilities were excellent and kept spotlessly clean. Sited just yards from the houseboats we were treated to an insight into a completely different way of life. There was always something to watch on the canal or towpath and the marina residents were friendly and keen to answer our questions or just stop for a chat. The town has adequate shopping and there are lots of walks and eateries both locally and in the surrounding villages. The train station is just a stone throw away and we will certainly be returning to explore this beautiful area further.
