Why stay here ...

New Mills Marina on the Peak Forest canal built in the late 18th Century overlooks Derbyshire’s dramatic High Peaks with its rolling countryside, fast flowing rivers and rocky torrs. Inside the marina is a secure, all weather Club CL site open all year round with five hard standing pitches complete with electric hook up and close to a fresh water point and Elsan disposal unit. Camper vans and Mobile Homes welcome, but always check conditions before setting off.

A new, beautifully equipped toilet and shower block providing constant hot water is a few steps away. This is situated within a renovated stable block built around 1830 to provide feed and stabling for the horses that towed barges of cotton goods from the factories of New Mills as well as limestone from the nearby quarries to Manchester for UK distribution. Much, however, was transported further to Liverpool for export to the British Empire and other overseas markets. Caravanners will soon discover that for each fascinating 18th and 19th Century link to the Industrial Revolution, New Mills Marina CL site also offers them the best in 21st Century technology, including free wi-fi, key code operated electric security gates and motion sensor operated internal lighting. Couple this with pleasant picnic seating and barbecues free for all to use and we expect that our newest Club CL site will quickly become as popular as others we operate at Grove Lock Marina near Leighton Buzzard and Kings Orchard Marina near Lichfield. Full details on these can be found by clicking the links to those marinas.

Caravan and camper van owners often select sites to visit for the places of interest nearby and  the small market town of New Mills certainly has more than its fair share of these. Within easy walking distance is the famous Millennium Walkway, lying almost 100’ below the town (linking New Mills, the Torrs and Riverside Park), the Sett Valley Trail, an easy walk along a disused railway from New Mills to Hayfield, Goytside Local Nature Reserve, another great but easy walk that can be joined just opposite New Mills Marina, the Torrs Hydro, a fascinating Archimedian Screw installation that provides some of New Mills’ electricity, while further afield Chatsworth House, Crich Tramway Village, the caverns at Treak and Poole and the magnificent Dovedale Ravine at Ashbourne, to name just a few are all worth a visit. The marina office contains leaflets containing more information on these and many other local attractions.

Pubs, shops, restaurants, buses, railway link to Buxton are all within a few minutes walk of the marina as are cycle tracks and many country walks.

Excellent Location

New Mills Marina
A perfect spot for exploring the local area and travelling into Manchester. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Nice flat spacious pitches. Clean facilities. Well located near numerous walks and the train station. Recommend.

Great base but very noisy in middle of industrial units

New Mills Marina
We booked this on the basis of previous reviews. However on arrival it was rather disappointing as it felt like a small gravel car park. Probably better for camper vans and motor homes as not much space to manoeuvre a caravan especially when all pitches are full. There are good transport links when you don’t have a car which is good. At first we thought “it can’t be here” as you are basically turning into a residential street and industrial area. Because it’s industrial it’s quite noisy eg from 8am there’s a roaring sound that sounds like a jet engine til 5pm. Then there’s the car repair place using a pneumatic wrench and playing loud music. It’s definitely not a relaxing peaceful site. So no relaxing days enjoying surroundings and barbecuing. This CL should purely be viewed as a base. The canal residents also play loud music some evenings. On Day 2, 3 of the 5 Motorhomes left which made it feel better as it didn’t feel quite so claustrophobic. There’s not much space between units and no grass between them. Toilet facilities are nice as are the staff who are Very pleasant and helpful. The New Mills high street has lots of facilities on your doorstep which is good especially in Motorhomes. There’s a terrific Italian restaurant 5 mins from the site and we went there twice during our stay. The food is authentic, the staff extremely attentive and knowledgeable. A great night out. It’s even dog friendly for upstairs seating or outside seating. They even give your dog their own meatball! As time went on we grew to like it more as it’s great for walking in many directions. So if you just want a base it’s perfect but it’s not the nicest for lazy days round your caravan. Overall it grew on us and we probably would return but it’s not an idyllic setting. So be aware if this when booking.

Great base for local trails

New Mills Marina
Really enjoyed our stay convenient location for local trails around the town of new mills. Well run and maintained site, slightly sloped pitches but good value for location. Friendly staff and boaters on site, will definitely return. Many Thanks to all on site who made the stay enjoyable.

Lovely CL Site

New Mills Marina
Stopped for one night for a stopover Been to a lot cl sites around the country and this is up there with one of the best. Kept clean and tidy, your caravan is kept secure by electronic security gate Handy walking into the town,( shops, café pubs ) right beside the canal it's ideal for walkers especial with dogs , If I could nitpick, is that you are pitched a bit close together , would be a bit tight if everyone had a awnings erected But well worth a visit.

Superb stay early August 2021

New Mills Marina
Reviewed on the last night our 4 night stay in early August 2021. This is a wonderful certified location for the CAMC to have in its portfolio. The pitches are flat, back onto an embankment of the canal offering views screened by shrubs for privacy. Toilet and shower facikities (x2) are excellent with plenty of piping hot water and are kept cleaned on a regular basis. Security on the site is first class with a coded sliding gate and a keylocked doorway. inside the marina is the Torrs brewery, a marina shop, laundry machines, and calor gas, with diesel fuel and services for narrow boat owners. This site is close enough to New Mills for a leisurly stroll and opportunity to visit the many pubs - The Rock Tavern, Pride of the Dales, and my Favourite the Beer Shed are all worthy of mentioning here. Top Tips are a walk along the canal towards Manchester for industrial history and the delightful aroma of the Swizzels sweetie factory, a walk towards Buxton along the canal to Furness Vale Marina to see 'Rodney' the very del boy plonkeree canal boat on upwards at the canal bridge to the Soldier Dick pub and the Chip Box chippy. A trip out to Lyme park never fails to delight and certainly a trip to Glossop Caravans to browse and of course pick up a few things from the shop. Many walks abound in the area and there is much National Trust to be visited. All in all this is a beautifully run site in a superb location and a real eye opening gem to the area. 4 nights is simply not enough. Many thanks to the managing team for enabling such a magnificent stay.
