Fantastic Site

This is an amazing site, a large very well maintained lawned site in a small village. Pick your own pitch on arrival and set up. There are numerous EHU’s so you have a lot of choice, depending how long your power supply cable is, and you can be a good distance from any “neighbours” if you like total solitude. Excellent free wi-fi covering 90% of the site (a notice is displayed within the one blackspot area) so no frustration if everybody is on-line at the same time!! A nice touch was that we were supplied with an Ordnance Survey map of the area with some good suggested eating places, shopping and places of interest highlighted. 10 out of 10 for this idea. Local off-road walks (for dogs too) through farmland adjacent was also welcome. A highlight for us was being parked on-site near an owl’s nest and at night, with patience, the young owls would sit in an old tree trunk and twitter away to themselves!! This site is ideal base for touring the area but it could be useful as a stopover as it is so close with such easy access to the A1(M), A1, A14 etc. We’ll definitely be back if in this area again.

other cl owners take a look

CL owners take a look at this site and its owners because they have got it right , I only booked the day before arrival and was told to site myself please as they were out on urgent business for the day - we arrived to a very easy to negotiate entrance and I chose the spot we wanted and set up on a large very neatly mown lawn with plenty of room between vans, a little later the owner came and introduced himself apologising for not being there to greet us but I told him I am perfectly ok with setting myself up thanks and not to worry about not being there , he explained where everything was and even gave us a map of the local area with local attractions out lined on it we chatted for a few minutes about where we were from etc and he seemed really nice to get on with , we had booked for a week or so but when I asked if we could extend it to ten days he booked us in right away nothing was too much trouble , as others have said there is plenty to do in the area and lots to see and Huntingdon is a nice little town for shopping [ ask the wife lol] there's a Tesco about 1.5 miles from the site and its 24 hours , the site has some very nice views across fields and plenty of wild life around if you watch carefully , there is a water tap and elsan point and even a washing machine in case you need one, access is easy and its a quiet site even though the main road can get busy at peak times - now as I put at the head of my review cl owners should have a look at this site - the owners are great to get on with , the cl site is kept as neat as any ive ever seen and the facilities are good - ok so theres no shower / toilet block but most caravans have their own and all they charge for this site is £11 per night inc electric, ive seen other sites that are no where near as good as here and want to charge £15 - £25 per night , the main difference is this site was full most of the time and at least three vans at quietest dearer ones tend to be empty except weekends !!! , thank you Roy and Mary for welcoming us to your lovely site we will be returning asap .

Another great CL

We have recently returned from a 10 day stay at this lovely CL, made even better by lovely weather. The site us very spacious and it is easy to find level pitching despite a few ups and downs in the field. Roy Collet was very welcoming and extremely helpful, even lending us an OS map of the area. The wildlife kept us entertained and we enjoyed visiting the many interesting places in the area. We particularly liked St Ives and also enjoyed our visit to Wimpole Hall. All in all we had a lovely stay on this CL and would not hesitate to use it again and also would recommend to other club members.

Repeated visits

We have used Roy & Mary's CL for several years, usually for just a couple of nights or sometimes more. There is a good chunk of hard standing for winter months as well a manicured grass for the rest of the year. EHU points are well distributed  so that a good gap between units is easy. Since we were last here, the owners have sold their house across the road and had a smaller dwelling built near the barns on the site. Their WiFi is faster than we could get on a 3 dongle thingy and free. Toilet waste disposal is now near the gate rather than trundling it across the road to the house. So EHU, water and toilet disposal - all we need. Oh and there's a dog walk just off the site too. Everything a CL should be for us.

Ideally Located.

We can echo the comments of previous reviewers. The site is easy to find with good roads all the way to Kings Ripton.  There is plenty of space and the site is open and sunny. It is very well kept and affords good views over the fields. Mr Collett is very friendly and helpful with a lot of local knowledge. The WiFi was a bonus. A highlight for us was a pair of little owls which emerged each evening in the hedgerow at the boundary of the CL. The CL gives good and easy access to the surrounding area, Houghton, St Ives and the Hemmingfords are a treat and worth a visit. We visited Peterborough and would recommend the Lido for an outdoor swim and a visit to the Cathedral. All in all a good location, good value and one we are likely to use again.

Perfect for us

Nellie has said most of what you need to know about this site but it was the first visit for us. We were en route from North Wales to the ferry at Harwich and this CL was just over 4 hours driving which was more than enough. It turned out to be a perfect short stay of 4 nights so that we could take in the local area. The site is quite large and does have hardstanding spaces for those that need it. The grass was firm enough and whilst a bit bumpy we were able to find a flat spot without having to resort to levellers. There is plenty of room between potential pitches so you are not crowded. There is a road that runs down to both Huntingdon and the other way to St.Ives that passes within 100 yards of the CL and some road noise can be heard but it is not intrusive and quietens towards evening. Views are typical wide open ones of glorious countryside. Access can be tricky for those that miss the turning which is signposted. It is the first house on the right just through a small chicane as you head towards the village of Kings Ripton.  Electric points are numerous and water and Elsan emptying points are easily found. Huntingdon is a 10 minute drive in the car and St.Ives about 20 minutes. Both are excellent and I would suggest the walk between Houghton Mill to St.Ives and back through the meadows, shown on noticeboards at the Mill. The fast bus from the P & R from St.Ives to Cambridge will mean you can leave the car there.

Mr.Colletts is a genial host and lent us an OS map which was very helpful of him. He also suggested local eating places All in all a smashing place to stay and having found it we will now make a point of stopping again.

Second Visit.

There's not a lot to add following my previous review, last Spring. However the site no longer has a toilet or shower, as is stated in the 2015/16 Site Directory, the Lidl in Huntingdon is now open, and there is now a £1 all day parking charge at the St Ives Park and Ride. We enjoyed our say just as much as last time and will certainly be returning as we've still not been able to see all that we want in the area.

ANOTHER GOOD FIND

We are always looking for new cl's within about 40 minutes from were we live. This site is very roomy. tidy and the owners are friendly. Although there is some road noise this is mainly first thing and later on in the afternoon. but don't be put off. If you like walking there are walks from the site and through the village.  It is also quite near to St Ives and Ely. We will certainly be returning in the near future.
