Wanted to echo some others reviews regarding Home Cottage Farm where we stayed a couple of weeks ago as an overnight stopover from the east to the southwest. Booking the site was nice and easy and we were warmly greeted by the owner who took our fee and directed us to the site. There are the basic facilities but no electric which suited us. We parked up where we wanted and were alone for the night. The site is very peaceful, despite being so close to the M25. You could hear the motorway but this was really just background noise and would did not detract from the frequent Kite calls (there were loads flying around!). The grass was well kept and access needs care but was easy from the main road. The site is only 5 mins from the M40 Jn and another Jn on to the M25 so is ideal for a stopover (as we did) or if visiting London where a tube station is close by. All in a all great 1 night experience. If you have good batteries and solar then a longer stay would be fine but the owners seemed to be able to charge batteries also. The farm is a pick your own which in season, would be lovely. Nice CL and recommended by us.
We spent 6 nights here over Easter with our 3 children (age 12, 10 and 8). This site is brilliantly located very near the west side of the M25, M40 and M4 yet it feels a million miles away from London, so peaceful and lots to watch - red kites, lambs, the chicks. The site is not well signed and access is a bit narrow with a few tights turns. We didn't pitch on the field as it was too wet but the owner let us choose from a space in the orchard or the car park of the PYI, we went for the orchard. This site has no toilet or EHU but has good refuge/recycling and the chemical toilet emptying is fine. We were amazed to be the only ones on site the whole time. The owner is very welcoming, accomodating and friendly but not obtrusive and was kind in letting our children help her feed her chicks. We found all the dogs to be friendly and kept well under control. The owner's dog, Daisy, is old and deaf so barks when she see's you but just wants a bit of a fuss. The nearby village of Iver (3/4 minute drive) has Co-op and a play park. While in the area we also visited Osterley Hall, Warner Bros Studios, Windsor Leisure Centre, Central London (taking the Elizabeth line from Langley) and Thorpe Park. All of these are within 30-40 minutes journey from the site. We would happily stay here again if visiting London. Price at April 23 was £17pn.
Turned up today having booked it a couple of days before. Lovely site, had it all to ourselves. Grass pitch, no electricity, black wast disposal available
It’s amongst a fruit farm. Owners and family very friendly. So so peaceful we loved it! Nice G&T and beer in lovely sunshine.
Great place for us to stopover on our way down South.
Entry is a bit tight but our Moho is 7.8m long.
This site was an unexpected gem. Considering it’s location to major motorways and Heathrow Airport it was unbelievably quiet and peaceful. The facilities are basic but everything you need is there (no hook up). The pub (very friendly) shops, bus stop and, I believe from the owner, Pinewood Studios are just a short walk away and Wembley Stadium isn’t too far either. The owner is very friendly and so is her dog, Daisy! There were red kites soaring not 40 feet above us and loads of other bird life. It was just a stopover for us between Salisbury and North Essex but we’ll be back for longer next time as, for us, this site ticks every box.
Our first stay as Caravan Club members (in fact, we joined especially to be able to use this site as it is very near relatives!) We loved it. Hope they are all like this. It's a simple field next to another field full of sheep (very quiet sheep - they are much noisier where we live!) Red kites soaring overhead. Rather difficult to believe you are so close to London. We'll definitely be back as it had everything we needed and the owner was really pleasant.
A real little gem of a site. Woke up to a baby fox in the field next to us and woodpecker the otjer side. Also saw 3 wonderful full size deer.
Forty five minute walk along a pavement to Iver station which has trains direct to Paddington. You can get the Metropolitan line from Uxbridge but having used that for many years to get yo work i know it can have delays.
The dogs we saw were all muzzled and didn’t cause an issue at all.
One we will keep on our ‘will use again’ list
We absolutely loved this place, so much so that we stayed an extra night to our booked 6 nights. We found the owners very friendly and helpful. Access to the site looks tricky but the owners will advise the way to approach it and we had no trouble. The owners dog is very friendly and, although he barks when he sees you, he is always glad to see & greet someone.
While we were there we covered Windsor/Eton, Marlow, Windsor Great Park & Virginia Water, Bekonscot Model Village, Langley Park (which is only 2 miles away) & Cliveden Park - all of which are highly recommended.
We were also fascinated by the Red Kites which are in abundance here but taking a photo of one is not so easy.
It was lovely to be at the back of a thriving self pick farm & fresh Raspberries & ice cream (the local shop is 10mins walk for the ice cream) were a treat along with the Victoria Plums.
We will certainly be back next year.
No electric hook up but our roof mounted solar panel & 12v tv did us proud.
The booking was simple and easy and done over the phone, the landlady just got my membership number.
Arriving on the site, the signage does not really show you the proper direction as there are other signs for the fruit picking business. Use of pictograms could help.
The site it self is a lovely spot, quiet and beautiful with the sheep grassing nearby. However, it is difficult to understand that some part of the fence around the camping site is electrical while most others are not. A live electrical fence does not call for a 'family friendly' site or a 'dog friendly' site. Neither does the landlord's/landlady's extremely aggressive dog, who did not hesitate to run hundreds of meters around the fruit field to un-motivated attacking and biting our female Cocker Spaniel. Even the landlady noticed the attack, she didn't bother to come around and have a conversation. Apparently a 'normal' and acceptable event for her.
However, and a BIG however. It should be fairly anticipated that one can walk SAFELY with a dog from the campsite and to the public road without being attacked and bitten by a uncontrollable aggressive dog. Following the attack, we walked back to our caravan and had to take the car to bring us safely up to the nearby pub for our dinner.
Two days after, sitting here on a Sunday afternoon, the landlord's dog is still walking freely around and coming down to the campsite and I have had to close my door so feel safe, in 32 degrees C. Not acceptable at all.
I will strongly recommend that the Club is paying a visit here and reconsider if this site should be a CL? End of day, it must be possible to walk safely to the public road with a dog without being attacked and in fear of such.
Our first ever outing in the van, en-route to Suffolk. Pleasantly surprised. Only one tent at far end of field (we went in early September). Warm & friendly greeting by the owner, and a welcome journey break having travelled up from home near Exeter.
I used this site for a one day sleep over as was working a night shift in the area. on arrival was meet by very pleasant owners who where very friendly and helpful, directed to the camping field and basicly was left to pitch where i wanted, as the weather was very wet got the caravan stuck and the owners with out to much trouble came and pulled my caravan out and moved it to the small car park for me to collect at the end of my shift in the morning. When you do stay on site you will need to use all the your facilities on board as there is nothing on site apart from a water supply and a hole to empty toilet, the other 2 things to look out for is the you need to your eyes open when approaching the site as the entrance is slightly hidden and when driving down to the site you need to use the turning circle at the end to gain entrance to the camping filed as there is a big tree in the way making the left turn hard. But apart from that i will be using this site again just for the peace and quite it offers.
