Peaceful and Quiet CL on working farm

We stayed here for 2 nights in June 2024. This is a very peaceful site and is kept in very good condition. It is very easy to communicate with the site owners andeayto pay. Each of the 5 hardstanding pitches has a 16.amp supply and you get 10 kWhr included within the daily price. Water is very close by, between the pitches as is the recycling and the chemical disposal. There are 2 pubs within just over a mile. The Red Lion at Pickmere and the George and Dragon at Great Budworth. Well worth visiting and they both do good food. Arley Hall is very nearby and there is alpaca walking offered by the owners of the CL. At night it is absolutely quiet and peaceful. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will be coming back. Easy to book, easy access and very flat site.

A hidden gem

We were travelling from Kent to Heysham and needed a stop over. We had not booked and rang Gravestones at just after 6pm they were very accommodating explaining about payment and getting to the local pub. The site is set within a working farm, the pitch area is neat and well cared for, a hard standing with electric hook up and black water disposal provided nearby. We didn’t meet the owners as they were seeing to the farm. The system is easy, pay by bank transfer or leave cash in an envelope, take the electric reading when you arrive and again when you leave and just text it through. Simple😊 We looked out over a field and some beautiful woodland. The area is extremely tranquil. The farm also has Alpaca walks (sadly we didn’t have time to partake) The local pub, the Red Lion, is a miles walk, around the woodland and across fields. Even though it was a Monday evening it served lovely food, good ale and wine. Although planes do go overhead we did not find them offensive, hence we have given a 5 star review. If you’re looking for somewhere to go to enjoy peace and calm, put Gravestones on your list. Truly delightful.

Perfect CL Site

We stayed on this site over the May Bank Holiday weekend. The site is a perfect CL - water and elson point with rubbish disposal and recycling. This is a hardstanding site on a working farm and although, as mentioned by a previous reviewer, you are not personally met, the information provided on the board when you arrive is very clear - this is not the only site we have stayed on where we haven't seen anyone. All pitches have hardstanding with ehu if you want to use it - we didn't but that is our choice and the grass was nice and short. The surrounding area is covered by country roads although you are not too far from the Northwich bypass and the M6 so it is good for a stopover if you are on a longer journey. The reason I gave the site 4* for the peace and quiet is that it is on the flight path for the airport, which doesn't bother us, but may be an issue for other people. This site is within a reasonable journey in time and miles for us on a Friday evening and as the owners don't have a time that you have to arrive by, it suits us down to the ground. We will definitely look to stay again.

Tidy Peaceful Site

Just had 2 nights at Gravestones CL Site. Even after so much rain the grass was short and very well drained the pitches are hardstanding & level .There is a dedicated path around the fields that then joins a footpath that leads to the Main Road & Pickmere Lake. Also 1mile away is The Red Lion Pub for drinks & food. Lovely & Peaceful overlooking fields . No facilities but we use our own . Water & Elsan point clean & tidy

And Yet Another Great Stay!

As I seem to be the only one who reviews this site, I thought I would give them another mention and another thumbs up. Still only 20 pounds per night including 10 units of electricity which seems good value these days (extra units charged at 40p). Lovely outlook from the pitches and plenty of walking from the site. This will continue to be our 'go to' site when travelling up and down the M6.

Another Great Stay!

A very peaceful CL only minutes away from J19/M6 making it ideal for both stopovers or longer visits. Level but quite narrow hardstanding pitches all overlooking open fields (awnings would be on the grass). Booking is straightforward and notify your arrival by text. Payment is by cash or BACS transfer. At the time of our stay (September 2023) the cost was £20 per night including 10 units of electric (meter reading to be taken on arrival and departure). Plenty of walking from the site with a nice route that takes you around Pick Mere. Would definitely visit again. Highly recommended.

Close to motorway but still very quiet. Good value. No frills.

Would happily use again as a motorway stopover. Good pub within walking distance. Easy access even for large outfits.

Suited Our Needs Perfectly

We chose this site for its proximity to the the M6 so that we could break our journey whilst travelling north. Booking was easy by phone (friendly owner) and clear instructions were given about arrival and payment. As it is a working farm, the owners are not always around to welcome you so it was a case of transferring the pitch fee by BACS/cash in envelope (£20 for two adults inc. EHU).and texting your details on arrival. This didn't cause us a problem. Site was very peaceful with a pleasant outlook over open fields. Pitches were level, if a little narrow. Plenty of walking from the site and a designated dog walk around the adjacent field. Ticked all our boxes and would definitely use the site again if in the area.

Probably low priority for the owners

Other have commented about this site being 'basic', which is a shame because it could be a lot better. The owners seem to have many other business interests, so I don't suppose they see improving the CL as a priority. The instruction to register your arrival by text message and pay by BACS says it all. The gravel on the pitches needs to be re-surfaced and widened. They are so narrow there is no hardstanding to walk on, and the gravel is so fine it sticks to shoes anyway so makes a mess of your van. There is a single water point with no drain, so it is always muddy and slippery. It would be easy to extend the water supply pipe to put standpipes at each pitch. The lack of a drain wouldn't matter then. On the plus side the pitches are level and well spaced, and with an open aspect to the front. Don't miss Arley Hall gardens, they are very close to the site and well worth visiting.
