Cracking Site Grommit

A truly delightful CAMC Certified Location. We booked 5 nights in early June 2021 and like another reviewer it was just not long enough and we reluctantly moved onwards in the morning to our next booked site. The CL does offer fly fishing on their beat of the river Deveron but I was not able to fit that in The site is made up from two areas which can referred to as original and new both of them offering fully serviced pitched, excellent TV and mobile phone reception. The pitches have countryside views and are also quite sheltered We had fantastic weather during our stay and our hosts were always helpful and available if required A real gem of a site and I thoroughly recommend spending some time here staying on the site and exploring the area. Many thanks to Linda and Michael Top Tips are:- Gardenstown - take the winding road down the cliffs to park at the bottom and spend a half day wandering the town and beach, with a walk along to Crovie Pennan - again a half day wandering around exploring the beautiful cliff backed coastline bay Turrif - About 11 miles away there is Fly fishing at Delgatie Castle is excellent and the town is pleasant to wander with many shops and a good well stocked Tesco Whitehills, Banff and Macduff - thriving harbour towns perfect for wandering and dolphin watching Fraserburgh - drive the east coastal route enjoying the scenery and small bay villages and stick to the coast for the best views. Asda is on the west end of Fraserburgh, the harbour and many industrial deep sea fishing vessels in the centre, and a gorgeous beach on the east / south corner is wonderful for walking the dog or simply just taking in the light and air

5 Star Rating in every aspect

We chose this CL as it is extremely well placed in an area of northern Scotland we had yet to explore. Booked in 2020 having spoken to Linda about the site and the area. So useful to be able to chat and be reassured by someone who knew the area so well. Whilst it is not uncommon for CL owners to ask for a deposit when booking, Linda's trust in CMC members to do the right thing was nice - even more so in these difficult times regarding Covid and travel restrictions. In making our choice to stay at the CL I was interested in the little mention that is made in their listing about fishing either a local Loch or in my case on the River Deveron. Linda briefly outlined that Michael could arrange whatever I required and so I arrived well prepared for some prime river fishing on one of Scotland's premier rivers. Once you arrive on site it could not be more simple - all pitches are clearly marked and we had been informed of which was to be ours for the 8 nights we stayed. The fact that each pitch is FULL SERVICE is a real bonus but the views and peace and tranquility also go a long way to making this a truly amazing CL. So what to do in this area: Cycling, especially ebiking, on roads that are well maintained and hardly used by cars is a real pleasure. Easily possible to accomplish rides of 45 miles and see some truly amazing scenery and famous Scottish beaches. Visiting more local villages by car also allows for some great walks on the beach or along cliff tops. Michael also runs the local wet fish shop in Gardenstown so you can get the best of local fish right on the door step or he will also deliver it to your pitch. What a service. Now to the fishing - well Michael really made my trip - he is a very accomplished salmon fisher and was keen for me to experience this discipline - sadly whist I had 3 good opportunities I did not connect with one. However, it was different story when Michael had booked and organised a day for us on the Mayen House Beat across the river from his own beat. I am not going to spoil the anticipation for readers who are interested - just let me say it was an experience of the highest order with Michael acting as Ghillie, Mentor as well as Head Chef for an amazing lunch. I hope that you both are able to use some of the photos I have shared with you as these show some of the wonderful places and scenery available as well as the truly memorable fishing day. Linda and Michael deserve our support as Club members and whilst their CL is at the top end of the UK it is a trip that is certainly worth the effort. You will leave well rested and relaxed having seen and experienced a very special place managed by equally special people.

Update for new pitches

This was pur second visit but the first time since the revamp. We managed to get booked for the opening days of 2021, post covid lockdown. This time we stayed on the new pitches and were able to take advantage of the fantastic views. Lovely warm welcome from Linda the owner and found they had put a lot of hard work into the new pitches. All hard standing and fully serviced and there is now a motorhome point on the drive for filling and emptying. Large spacious pitches and very well cared for. Large grass area and small solar lights to mark the drive at night. Even though the site was full during our week long stay, it was still very quiet and peaceful and there is loads of space between the pitches. We can not recommend this site any more highly. For anyone visiting the area this site is fantastic value for money and a great base to explore the beautiful coastline. For us its a 240 mile round trip but we will definitely be back.

Winter Break Lovely Place

As others have said the facilities are brilliant , new , easy to use and they have thought of everything to make your stay very pleasant. The pitches are large and well serviced, even when we arrived in the dark it was easily found. Linda couldn't have been any more helpful, and highly recommend this site.

Probably the best CL in Scotland

We stayed here for our first CL and have struggled to find a better one since. It was a lovely site in a great location. Each pitch was serviced and flat. The owner was brilliant. She was helpful and friendly and easy to contact. We mentioned that we were trying to buy an old kreel for our garden pond, the next day she had managed to source one and wouldn't take any money for it. The local area is beautiful and there is so much to do. It's just a pity it isn't closer or we would be back regularly. The next time we are in the area we will certainly be back. We recommend this site to all of our friends and have sent several people there who all agree that its well worth a visit.

A wonderful CL

We usually stay on main club sites but couldn't get a pitch for the eleven nights that we hoped for so we 'took a chance' on Gamrie Bay CL. Our decision proved to be an excellent one. We had extensive communication with Linda before we left home and knew where our pitch was on the site so we could just rock up and pitch up. Photos sent by Linda helped in this regard and the pitch was top drawer and exactly as described. The views were as good as any we have had on any site we have stayed on in our 30 years or so of caravaning. Linda doesn't insist on how you set up your van on your pitch which allowed us to face the best way to make the most of the view. The cleanliness of the site was exceptional and we had the benefit of a fully serviced pitch. One thing I would suggest for others wishing to book such a pitch (any site, anywhere) is to ensure that you have enough waste water pipe. The drain point here is placed such that around ten metres is likely to be required if you pitch up facing the view. It is one of those things, the drain point has to go somewhere and if each user has the choice of how to pitch then it is inevitable that some will struggle to reach the drain. I have had this issue on some other sites so it is more to do with the fact that I just scrimped on my initial purchase of waste pipe length. I would like to thank the very kind and helpful ladies that had some unused pipe which they very kindly lent me until I could get to the local caravan dealer to purchase some more. Sadly I didn't find out their names but if they read this review then they will know who they are and thank you ladies. Linda was very friendly and helpful with advice of the local places of interest, etc, and made us feel very welcome. I have no hesitation in recommending this site to all. It has certainly changed our view about staying on a CL and I'm sure we will not discount them as we have previously. Bern and Shirl

The best CL we have visited this year.

This CL has had a price increase from £15 to £17 per night since September 2020. However, the facilities (which cannot be faulted) are such that it is worth the price. The owners are very welcoming and own a motorhome, so they are aware of what is required. WiFi is included and works well. There are another 8 stances here that are not related to the club, separate from the CL area. Well located for visiting the many small ports and bays along the coast and not far from Fraserburgh for larger town shopping.

Excellent

If I could give this site 6, or even 7, stars I would. Excellent site with everything "tickety boo". Fully serviced pitches with free WiFi as well....what more can you ask for? Linda & Michael have an absolute gem of a site which is well worth the visit. PS even the dog walk has little night lights to show you the way.

First Class Site with First Class Owners

This is a first class CL site with every facility catered for, even better than on many Club Sites. Linda and Michael made us feel so much at home and were so accommodating when we had to change dates due to hospital appointments. Linda was so understanding and a joy to correspond with nothing seemed to be too much bother for her, and when we met her in person her bubble, friendly, personality was very evident to see. This being our first outing since lock down and shielding ended and we could not have picked a better site or area to visit. We found the site exceptionally clean and well laid out, far enough from the local village with out being too remote. Lots of wonderful coastal villages to visit and lovely countryside all around. The dog walk was just perfect and we enjoyed having so much wild life to see while wandering along the well tended pathway that Michael had put in place. We loved the bees and hives and the honey tasted great as well!!! We stayed 8 nights and that was not near enough for us to see all that we would like to have seen so we will be back! Thank you Linda and Michael for helping to make our visit so enjoyable

Great CL

Fabulous site. Fully serviced with WiFi, a lot of thought has gone in to guest comfort. As the site owners are motorhomers themselves they know exactly what makes a good site. Good sized pitches, the site is beautifully maintained. Grass like a bowling green and service point clean with recycling facilities and fully covid safe. Good dog walk on site and close to other lovely walks. Friendly regulars on site and lovely owner who kept in touch via email prior to booking and when we had a family emergency whilst there. If it was closer to home would be there most weekends.
