We spent 6 nights here in September. Interestingly, the whole time we were the only caravan. All the other pitches were motorhomers. The site has easy access to the multi-use path to Bude via the nature reserve and canal. We found the site to be neat and tidy, the grass was mown while we were there. The pitches are terrraced and each has its own hedged and grassed area. All are hard standing and we found ours nicely level. We were on pitch 2 which needed a long electric cable., as did pitch 1. These two pitches also had access to separate water taps but needed a long pipe to be able to connect direct to our water container. The site was vey peaceful, and had sheep grazing in the field next to it. The site entrance is good after negotiating the short section of narrow lane.
We recommend the walk to Bude, a cream tea aboard The Barge floating cafe and a walk back along the canal.
Wonderful Location
We stayed at By The Byre for a week in July which is set out with 5 hardstandings with grass to put an awning if required. The site was a little unkempt; the grass & hedges needed cutting & this was also the feeling of others on site at the time. Considering there is a 4 hour window between departures & arrivals the site maintenance could be better. We did not get a greeting on arrival & in fact never saw the owners all the time we were there, which we felt was a shame. The site is in a fantastic location for walking into Bude along the canal or cycle path which only takes about 15mins.
Narrow access road. Good walking/cycle path into Bude.
5 nights July 2023. Never saw owner but on arrival there was an information board with info about our pitch. Terraced layout with hedges planted.
EHU and own water point, attached to the byre and we didn't spot until day 4! Long hose required.
Lovely setting and easy 15 minute walk into Bude via disused railway line. The Bank Tapas and Electric Bakery are closer and worth a visit if you are feeling flush ;-) TV signal good. 4G ok for streaming radio and web surfing.
Excellent base to explore Bude once you have arrived down the very narrow lane.
Love the Location
Fantastic peaceful spot, close to Bude Canal and only a 15 minute, level walk into town. There are good pubs, cafés, restaurants etc in the town and along the canal. We picked up the iwalkcornwall app circular walk Widemouth Bay to Bude. If you like walking, this is a great site. Good to see recycling bins and level pitches. Looking forward to our next visit.

spacious, ideally located CL
only the final half mile was a bit hairy down a single track road with only 1 or 2 passing places, but it was worth it for the lovely CL. Large roomy hard standing pitches with plenty of grass surrounding, the tiered pitches, bins, recycling point & CEP all housed in a discreet enclosure at entrance to site, lovely open aspect to the site and the access to the level path into Bude is just across the access road, bringing you into Bude in around 20 mins. Walking through the nature reserve and turning left along the canal is a lovely walk, about 45 mins the brings you to The Weir - Bistro, coffee house & wildlife centre overlooking a fishing lake, loved the alpacas. We would definitely recommend this CL and will return.
Nice Location
Easy to book with helpful arrival instructions. Well laid out site with good spacing on different levels. Directly from the site are traffic free walking and cycling paths with different routes through a nature reserve, these go to Bude or follow a circular walking route around the area taking in the Bude canal and local river. For Bude it's a pleasant level walk which takes 15-20 mins emerging alongside the canal, local eateries, tourist info etc. Walking on a little further the sandy beaches and coastal paths can easily be reached. Not forgetting the popular sea water swimming pool.
The castle museum near the harbour is excellent and there is a good cafe attached with views out to sea.
We have a dog and most places were dog friendly.
Bude has plenty to offer for short or longer stays.
Many thanks!
Great Site
Just returned from By the Byre and really enjoyed our stay. Easy walk into Bude and access to the coast path, loved the walk around the canal as well ( if any one has mobility issues, uses a buggy this site could be for you ).
Site was nicely laid out with hard standing pitches with generous spacing between each, water, cep, bins at the entrance to site but well screened, 25m hook up cable required to reach bollard on some pitches.
If there was a negative there was some road noise at certain times of the day and whilst we were staying there was a wood pecker that you could set your watch in the morning by, having a real go at the cable shielding on a telegraph pole ( loved that lol).
Hopefully will be able to get some repeat visits to this great CL.
Very relaxing…
This is a lovely, well maintained site thoughtfully laid out to make the most of all the pitches. The arrivals board (on the left when you drive in) is an excellent idea although we only spotted it after we’d set up and fortunately we were in the correct pitch.
The site is on the National Cycle Route and it’s a lovely flat 20 minute walk into Bude via the picturesque canal. Bude however is not that pretty and has a distinct lack of public houses but the one that is there is a very pleasant place to sit and eat and there’s everything you could need in the town.
We will definitely return.
Surprising find
This little site with its very adequate amenities is a real surprise. Its location is a prime site for the various delights of Bude, because it's just a an easy level 20-minute walk into the town centre and beach along the old railway and canal tow path - the countryside, birdsong and wildlife on the way is a treat. We loved it and wished we'd booked longer than our three nights.
Great location and peaceful setting
Had a 3 night stay in our motorhome and it was great to leave it parked up for the duration of our stay - apart from moving to top up water and deposit grey waste (drive over waste by the entrance). Lovely, level walk into Bude and also in the opposite direction to The Weir Cafe where we enjoyed a delicious lunch. Loved seeing the robin and woodpecker around the van too.
Very easy to book, especially now with online booking available, and we’ll definitely be back again soon.
Thank you!
