Excellent Site - BUT!!

This is a really a super quiet site which should score as excellent 5 stars. The pitches are hard standing, relatively flat, well spaced out, with hedge rows in-between and two have water taps at hand. There is a nice view across the valley. The grass areas were mowed a couple of times during our two week stay. The site is only a few metres from the cycle track into Bude and this provides an easy level walk into the town. It links with the canal tow path route into Bude which is very interesting as it not only passes a marsh area good for birding but has a resident heron or two which visitors can easily see and observe from the path. Small pedalos', canoes and paddle boards ply the canal and give the visitor plenty of entertainment! However,we were disappointed that our pitch (no1) (with water tap) had a couple of (in our opinion) major issues: - firstly a dangerous rut - very serious health hazard - (we were told that a motor home previous visitor had got stuck after heavy rain and had to be pulled free) in the grassed area and that nothing had been done to rectify the hole before our visit. We placed two whole bricks in the rut to prevent anyone in our group tripping / coming to grief!! The hole was reported to the site owner early on day two of our visit but nothing was done to deal with the problem during our stay. Disappointing. - secondly the pitch became severely waterlogged during our visit following heavy rain - the water was seeping UP through the ground not coming under the sides of the awning and led to a very muddy interior - a major difficulty as we had children sleeping in the awning area. Again the site owner was aware that this pitch had an issue after rain referring to it as the 'damp corner of the site. The pitch urgently needs to have better drainage. In addition to these points we felt that the refuse and recycling facilities were not emptied often enough and this led to an 'overflow' situation for both types of waste during our stay. This is undoubtedly a 'peak' season issue but need addressing. We wouldn't want this to be seen as a negative report - we have drawn the issues above to the site owner's attention and hopefully remedial work will be done before next year. We found the site location EXCELLENT and hardly used our car - travelling only 82 miles in the two week visit. The walk into Bude is easy and also makes a nice evening stroll. From the site you can get to the coast path and walk towards Widemouth Bay or Bude. There is also a nice walk along the canal (away from Bude) to a super cafe / restaurant 'The Weir" where there is a large pond (fishing available) with ducks, small ponies and ducks to admire. It is a good place to relax and get refreshments. Eating and refreshment places were extremely busy during our stay and pre-booking, if at all possible, was essential.

Great little site

Stayed here December 2020, lovely quiet site with flat hard standing pitches. Bude is a 15 walk away and there are many good walks to explore the area along the canal and river, great for cycling too, will be coming back in the summer all being good.

Happy together

Very peaceful and wonderful walks

We were delighted to find this CL. Ann gave us such a warm welcome and was there if we had needed her for anything. Good hard standing for motorhome in February. The approach down the lane is tricky if you meet someone coming the other way but it is a very short distance so no bother really. Ideal for walkers as there are good canal walks as well as easy access into Bude by bike or foot, as well as to the beach. Lovely quiet site, will definitely return.

Jiffy the Motorhome

Wow what a find. Beautiful site with everything you could possibly need. Flat cycle track opposite the entrance which takes you to Bude. 15 mins to walk. Canal pathway both ways. Beautiful beaches. Views stunning from the cliff tops. Craft market on a Friday. So much to see and do. We will definitely return.

Fantastic site

What a lovely site and lovely owners. The site is well set out with plenty of space on each pitch. It's very clean and well looked after. The canal and cycle path are near and its , a lovely walk into Bude. Definitely one of the best little sites we have stayed at - a credit to Amy and John! We will be back.

Super Location

Really good location for Bude. Easy level walk into town or onto coast. Only there for a few days so not enough time to explore more. Plenty to do locally. Good pubs, cafes etc. Everything you need on site.Bit of a narrow access road, met two other vehicles leaving despite the 10am departure time so not sure why you have to leave so early as check in is after 2pm? Wasn’t too keen on our pitch (No 1) as we were backed up to large barn wall. Pitches 3-5 are better if you have a choice. Very peaceful. Shame we didn’t see much of the owners apart from a quick greeting by Amy’s mother who was grass cutting on our arrival. Other than that we had an enjoyable stay.

Excellent all round

A lovely site with a lot of thought put into the layout. Plenty of room at each level pitch with grass and hard standing. Easy access to a footpath which takes a very short while to get into Bude with all of it’s facilities, eating places and scenic views. Not far from Boscastle and Tintagle. We shall certainly return if we’re in the area. We have an 8m motorhome so although the access is narrow we had no problem at all.

Lovely place to be

We stayed for two nights with our motorhome and one small dog, it is an easy walk into Bude along the tarmac pathway, really excellent level hardstandings gently terraced with some thoughtful planting to give privacy, large grassed areas in between, I was hoping to keep this site a secret but what the,,!

Great site Great spot

We have enjoyed our stay at this site. Access is down a short single track lane but we had no problems getting our 7.8 motorhome down the lane towing a car. The pitches are level and have great views across the valley. Access to the canal is easy and there are fantastic walks along the coastal path or just a short walk to Bude. Will stay here again.
